I was thinking of you all when I read recently of a young man who had been pulled from Micker Brook in Cheadle but had sadly died of drowning. From pics, it looked as though he might have been a bit of an explorer too. So just want to say how much I appreciate the risks you take to bring us your brilliant content, and please, every one of you, continue to be safe, and I hope I speak for all of us when I say I'd feel a terrible sense of responsibility if you came to harm while doing something for our enjoyment. I know you love to do it too, but, well... you know what I mean. Today's video may have been unintentional, but it was certainly different and worth a watch. But yeah, stay out of sewers.

10 -11 years ago, in the city i worked in, some areas had their own sewage system, which had to be pumped, from one system to another one. Someone had flushed a bunch of nonbiological crap, in their toilet, which killed the pump, thankfully my only task, was to electrical disconnect the old and connect the new one, as i was about to be finished , i dropped my screwdriver, borrowed a magnetic telescopic arm, from the other guy, and had to find it in 20 cm of water, full of poop.

No problem with the goo. I wasn't there!! Stay out of sewers!! Spoken by a man who talks to spoons. Ha Ha. Nice to see you, Martin. Give my regards to the boys. Cheers

I think this is the only youtube channel where I'd ever hear the words "we ended up in a sewer".

Both those old sewers looked well past their sell by date, the physical integrity looked dubious to say the least. Also at some time the tops had been cut through and a concrete slab put in place. It would have been interesting to know what was up above but I suppose that would give away the location and some silly b would go down there.

No problems Martin, life's lessons are hard but a heads up is great for those of us who think first! In my experince as a solo climber/scarmbler I can judge when I'm getting into a bad situation but this is all learnt along the way, there's no short cuts.

There was supposed to be miles of tunnels and cold war bunkers under a state hospital where we used to live. Never could find a entrance.

Hi Martin, The entrance chamber looked surprisingly clean, as you say though loosing your footing down there would be curtains. I remember that video further upstream and also the one where a remote vehicle was sent down👌👌I find them fascinating to see. Thinking about it, I don't think I recall seeing any rats on your explores, you must have seen loads. I came across one the other day it just sprung out across the bridge I was crossing and disappeared. Have a great week!!

An amazing amount of fallen brickwork, from years of rushing water. Imagine the number of man hours to build such a structure to perfection when completed.

Its not a sewer, its a canal for the tidi bowl man and his little motor boat.

Great video, hope you find the Shooters Brook access one day. Looking forward to the Standedge tunnel video, I was in there around 2001 on a rail possession. They drove us in from the Marsden end in a van, fascinating place when you crossed from the service tunnels to the rail tunnel you could see the canal below !

Looks like those old sewers might have been open top or at least cut down at some point in time.

Everybody makes mistakes m8! No probs this end. They called them sewage farms out this way. We used to visit with the councils permission. We were told to call them brown fishies. There was always one who fell in, hosed them off but, we left'm there, to be picked up by their parents. Different, somewhat intriguing, thanks Martin, you and your crew stay vertical Eh! And if the mic works, don't knock it.

Not unless there's a UK English vs US English going on, I think this is a storm drain and what you are seeing is a sewer overflow connection. Very common in older waste water systems to keep the poop water in smaller, separate pipes and larger storm water pipes separate but cross connected to deal with overflow from one to the other. All that stuff was laid down during a storm event.

People were sh*tting bricks? No wonder they had to abandon the old sewer lines. 🤣😂🤣

Seriously I think you would get great enjoyment from reading the following 2 books. Mayhews London and, Londons underworld, both written by Henry Mayhew in the Victorian era. You will even read about folk who made a living from the spoils of Londons sewers. Check them out, his detail is impeccable, and a very easy read.

I loved the spoon microphone-boom. Nice warning, one should never enter one of those without both gas/oxygene meters and carrying an air tank. If there's gas buildup you will suffocate.

it wouldnt matter how old it was i'd expect an old sewer (3:15) to stink. i remember an old 'time team' show where they were getting archeological in an old shit pit in an old medieval castle and they said it still had a smell to it.
