Dating the time of Abraham has become a controversial issue among Bible believers. The stories in the Bible happened, but dating when they happened has been based on a modern interpretation of the ancient peoples' ways of using numbers and speaking about time. Dating the destruction of Sodom is important because it pins Abraham to a specific point in time, from which a lot of events in the Bible can be correctly placed in history. Dr. Collins talks about the date of airburst impact that destroyed Tall el-Hammam, the dating of the pottery from the site and he begins a two part explanation of how ancient people used a very different way of keeping track of time.

Thank you for a great summary of your work. You didn't include the salt layer in your video. For me that is an additional Bible connection. Please confirm that you find high salt in the destruction layer. In regards to the doubters of the date of the event, they are biased by their dislike of Bible. Thanks again for your amazing work.

Interesting, also does the Gregorian calendar have anything to do with the date differences we would try to calculate in current times?

I believe that is is the right place at the right time, and with the right stuff, but Those dates must be off by a century, which is not all that much considering that it was nearly 4,000 years ago. And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son's name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael. And Abram was *fourscore and six years old* when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram. {Genesis 16:15-16} And Abraham was *ninety years old and nine* when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. And Ishmael his son was *thirteen years old* when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. {Genesis 17:24-25} And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him. And Abraham was an *hundred years old* when his son Isaac was born unto him. {Genesis 21:4-5} And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an *hundred and thirty years* few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, *and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers* in the days of their pilgrimage. And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt *seventeen years* so the whole age of Jacob was an *hundred forty and seven years* {Genesis 47:9, 27} ^ These are literal dates. The bible is true, the science of man is fallible. Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was *four hundred and thirty years* And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even *the selfsame day* it came to pass, that all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt. {Exodus 12:40-41}

Totally agree. The only reason for assuming the ages of the patriarchs is incorrect is due to assumptions and unobserved events (Historical science). The bible lucidly explains such dates, times, seasons, clearly. No reason to add more time. 6k +/- years is just fine! The mesopotamian myths/poetry and egyptian kings list are corrupted versions of the original texts post Babel. They tell similar (but corrupted) versions of the same stories hence the long ages of the patriarchs (Perfect genetics as God would have created in the garden of eden). We have lived in a fallen world for the past 5k/- years. Humanity went through a genetic bottleneck event during the flood even further corrupting the genetics by passing on mutations. God did not give the law preventing close relationships for another 1500 years! One can test such corruption by challenging the details of each culture. For example in the bible the Ark actually used extremely stable dimensions (300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high), however in the Gilgamesh epic these dimensions would have killed everyone on board. (shape of a box, with 7 floors, would have rolled over and over in rough seas). "The Preserver of Life was made of solid timber, so that the rays of Shamash (the sun) would not shine in, and of equal dimensions in length and width. The design of the ship was supposedly drawn on the ground by Enki, and the frame of the ark, which was made in five days, was 200 feet in length, width and height, with a floor-space of one acre. The ark interior had seven floors, each floor divided into 9 sections, finishing the ark fully on the seventh day. The entrance to the ship was sealed once everyone had boarded the ship." As you can see the above account mimics parts of the biblical story yet the details are incorrect.
