You know a vocalist is putting in work when they have to cover an ear! God use whatever talent that I may have to be as much of a blessing to the Kingdom of God as Crystal Rucker is, this my prayer!!!
OMG....I thought Miss Labelle was the only one to sing this....but to my disbelief....God anointed Miss Rucker to sing this from her belly... and it hit my belly!! LOL...she sung that until she got happy....smile..that's awesome!
Crystal is a wonderful singer! It's my first time hearing her. I've heard about her for years. What I love is she doesn't just sing everything in chest voice. She knows how to switch registers effortlessly to the point where it's not always clear if she's singing in one register or the other. That's the mark of a good singer in my humble opinion.
Thank you shardtx. Why on God's green earth do black church folk insist on comparing our singers? You don't see white folk doing that. We have got to get rid of this whole "crab in a barrel" syndrome that's so pervasive in our community. Crystal is wonderful at what she does and Patti is great at what she does. Two different voices. I've been watching this video for months now and I still can't get enough of it. She has an annointment on her that's unbelievable. I pray that God will continue to use her to uplift the body of Christ and to bring sinners to Christ.
I ghot a chance to hear Crystal tonight at the 99th C.O.G.I.C. Musical in my hometown Memphis 10. All I can say is she is Amazing Live. She had everybody on there feet. Me being a singer, I stood there in total admiration cause her runs are fie. It just so happens that I juz heard about her like 2weeks ago on here.

In closing, it's clear that black church folk, in particular, like to throw around the word "anointing" like it clearly defines everything for everyone even people that didn't grow up in the culture. They also think it puts them above scrutiny. It's quite evident that we have our preferences, anointing or not, which is why I placed two gospel singers in the same text because it will still be preference.
I Thank God for this interpretation of such a classic and already powerful song. Just like the secular version, Crystal Rucker's voice like Judy Garland's has made audio magic. Heaven, yet chilling to hear and haunting at times when random phrases or hooks just pop back into consciousness. Happening for years lol. Both versions always make me wanna cry.
She's already (via her annointing) has made an impact, if you guys are comparing her to Patti. People become famous via hear-say (advertisement), and that's exactly what you're doing.

I just listened to Patti's version - all of them. She's good. But Crystal has something Patti doesn't which makes this song even better when Crystal sings it - the anointing of God. Patti is entertaining, Crystal is ministering.
I got my breakthru...she know she give me everything i needed and more....her growl is so mean, she growls like Karen and has range like Lecresia Campbell..she is a beast
I thought Venessa Bell-Armstrong was the best singer in the COGIC, but my God, who is Crystal Rucker. Got me praising God in my office. She is killing those runs. And that switch to minor is killer.
Does anyone know if she went to school for music. I have not heard such an amazing technique in gospel ever. Her placement is pretty much perfect. Not even karen who is my fav technique can touch hers its a shame she is not bigger on the gospel seen
That's not 2 say Patti can't sing because she can. But we all know that when one sings under the anointing of God, u will be more inclined 2 listen 2 that individual. Why? The anointing is what makes the difference. Both Patti & Crystal r great singers. & like u said, it's simply one's preference. When I listen 2 a song, I listen 4 the message. Clearly Crystal gave us all a message in this song. Where will U spend eternity?
Yes and that's because most of the people posting are from the church. If you had people listening that didn't grow up in a baptist or pentecostal church, you would get a whole other perspective. Of course people here like her. Who wouldn't? But this is church. The secular audience loves Patti so they would have another perspective. That's all I'm saying.
Well let's put it this way. Majority of people know who Patti Labelle and Vanessa Bell Armstrong are - those who know R&B or Gospel. They have made their mark. Let's see where this woman goes. From your previous comments you apparently think no one can touch her and yet she is still a virtual unknown. Those are facts, not opinions. But time will tell. That said, I think the woman is great.
Also, by your very admission about "anointing", there's a thread with Crystal Rucker singing "Changed". There are some people who prefer Crystal's rendering over the original done by Tramaine. Both are, as you say, anointed, so why is there a preference? This wouldn't be the only thread based on gospel singers who some prefer over the another. Aren't they all "anointed"?
I agree that this isn't a competition. However, when u have someone comparing talent to the anointing of God, realize there is NO comparison. U have 2 keep in mind that most of the people r commenting about the anointing they felt when Crystal sung it as opposed 2 when Patti did it.
all i can say is that she would hav been better if i were up there lol. No foreal she showed us all how to sing and really live for God so that we can may be annoited no matter what!!!!!!
If you've never experienced the anointing of God, then I wouldn't expect u 2 understand. But I want to encourage you to. God will use whomever he wants. It doesn't matter who is singing and what denomination they are from. By the way what is COGIC mannerism?
Crystal can sho' nuff sing.......I wonder what her "real" voice sounds like....of course that's the gift God gave her and that's the way she uses it, but she always sings falsetto. I just wonder what her full voice sounds like. I wonder if she could even be considered a soprano in her full voice. But that aside, the girl is bad!
i heard venessa bell and in my own opinion she is not better than crystal rucker that is my intileed opinion no one can change that and i can`t change how yall feel about venessa but that is what i think and i am just appreaciating that they both sing for the lord as i mentioned before it is not a competition.
I love each singer that you named. However, to say that COGIC has the best singers is mere opinion...not fact. Because the fact of the matter is as much as you and I both may love these singers, others may not feel as moved when they singer; thus, confirming that being considered the "best" singer is based solely on a particular individual's personal preference.
I have heard her do better...I have her singing it last year on Cd....she can sing.....her technique was killer at the end....she also sings Safety on the GMWA Cd....but this was alright! I liked it!
Apparently you've never been under the anointing of God. It does not put someone on a pedestal. It does however breaks and destroys the yoke of the enemy - something secular music doesn't. Church folk, as you say, tend to like what edifies the body of Christ. & as far as Patti, she can run like Crystal, don't need COGIC mannerisms, & is still cheered by "church folk".
Ah I see. So you're assuming something now because I don't agree with what you've said. I will agree that God uses whoever he wants (that includes Patti). I already proved my point by all the threads that compare gospel singers (Kim vs. Karen, Karen vs. Vanessa, etc). All of them are anointed so why the comparisms? You didn't answer that I see.
