Absolutely stunning performance! He looks so superb with the support of the University of Memphis Orchestra under Pu-Qi Jiang! I have played orchestral accompaniments to these kinds of pieces in Suzuki Institutes in the past in Memphis, TN, but only this video displays the uniqueness and flair that this performance gave on Ethan Lam's big night! He is such a wonderful young man!
Yes the piece was written for just piano, but I believe they made this so that the orchestra could play along with him. But I also would assume that they slowed down the tempo a little bit to make it sound more like a concerto. But when he played by himself on this, it sounded slow because the original marking for this was allegro, which is quite faster than he played it. But this performance was beautiful and I can tell everyone put lots of work into this. ;)
