Songs For the Deaf is one of the last great hard rock albums of recent memory. It’s just bass, drums, guitar and plain ol’ OVERDRIVE. It saw Queens of the Stone Age capitalize on their unique position in rock, assembling a one-time-only, star-studded line up for a loose concept album: a drive through the blistering California desert. Buckle up.

I've never understood the hate for Lullabies to Paralyze. . . It's an amazing record in its own right, I just think it wasn't what a lot of fans of the band wanted or expected. I'm glad though that the fans at the very least seem to respect how good their touring lineup and live shows were from that era. At this point, I've sort of accepted that I'm not going to 'get it' right away with any new album they release, that I'll be left scratching my head for many years to come before I can fully appreciate each record for what it is. . . My inital reaction to Like Clockwork wasn't good, simply because I wanted a heavier record. I'm only just starting to realize how awesome Villains was, despite some flat sounding production on the record. Josh and company have never been afraid to get weird and go in varying artistic directions. . . I think having any expectations, is expecting too much.
@SeanDish

@@jager9022 personally im still on the fence on if it's front loaded or not. However, I've seen the arguments that it is with most of the noteworthy songs all being at the front. Such a different perspective from my own on why Like Clockwork was special. . . There was a six year gap between Era Vulagris and Like Clockwork, where I desperately awaited a new record and worried if maybe that wait was indicative of Josh and the band having run out of ideas. . . The anticiaption was huge, and some of the teasers for the record were really intriguing. Even as a long time fan of the band, Like Clockwork has some of my favourite tunes. I would consider I Appear Missing one of the best songs the band ever created.

My favorite Queens song as well, which is why Rated R gets the favorite record rating on GP. I just find it maddening that no one ever seems to truly dissect the meaning behind Lost Art despite their love for it. I mean, is it just me, or is that song unquestionably about a sexual encounter with a transgender person? I've tried to interpret it in other ways but the aforementioned explanation when taking the lyrics into account is the only one that has fully ever made sense to me. (Add to that, Josh has been known to say the song is about anal sex before live performances). Please tell me what your take is (or has always been) on Lost Art.
@fladification
@fladification 3 года назад
@@jovanreid6782 I never really put that much thought into the lyrics. I went and read them just refresh my memories and to me it could be about many things. The true magic of music is that no matter what the writer may have intended the meaning can be different for anyone and even change over time. For me originally the song was about a forbidden love. Reading it now it could be about that...most likely, or about hiding an embarrassing fetish but ultimately I think it's about trying to keep a secret you'd hurt someone for revealing.
@jovanreid6782
@jovanreid6782 3 года назад
@@fladification Thanks for your feedback. I find most Queens fans tend to not put too much thought into the lyrics, and I also agree that the beauty of the music is that it's open to various interpretations. I just find with this particular song that it's almost astounding that more listeners haven't come to the same conclusion that I've come to, or that it's never so much as alluded to given how obvious it seems to be. Lines like, "you've got something, I understand, hold it in tightly, call on command" and "look for reflections, in your face, canine devotion, time can't erase", and "stuck in believe, there is a lie, promise is promise, an eye for an eye, we've got something, to reveal, no one can know, how we feel". To me, those are all dead giveaways, even before you get to the fact that Josh has prefaced live performances of this song by stating it's about anal sex. To me, what he's essentially saying in the lyrics is that he met someone that he had no idea was a biological male, and felt a strong attraction to this person all the while, but then started to hear things in the streets, hence the line "out on the corner, or locked in your room, I never believe them, and I never assume"- I always see that particular line as Josh's way of saying he has become aware of the general consensus about this person he's been seeing, but due to both denial and his refusal to just believe anything he hears, he doesn't come to any conclusions (and also because he is already emotionally invested in this person, hence the lyric "canine devotion time can't erase" I feel like what he's saying there is he's already into this person and there's already a physical attraction as well as an emotional attachment, so he's kind of decided even if it turns out to be true that this woman is actually a transgender woman, he's already in too deep and there's pretty much no turning back. Then the ultimate give away, "we've got something to reveal, no one can know how we feel". To me the "something to reveal" is the biological male genitalia surely to be revealed when they finally get down to the nitty gritty, and when Josh says "no one can know how we feel" he has to be saying that although he's decided to go through with this, it's absolutely imperative that no one ever knows about it if for no other reasons than that he is not prepared for the stigma attached to this type of sexual practice, as well as he has yet to reconcile this experience with his personal identity. Given all of this, I just don't see what else Lost Art could possibly be about. Oh and also have you ever watched the video. The surgery images only seems to further underscore my theory. Looks to me like a biological male by the end of the video is post-OP.

This album is one of, if not my favorite of all time! Just after Christmas I was able to score a copy on vinyl, and I'm so glad I did! One of my favorite memories with this album is the first time I heard it front to back: my dad and I were going up into the mountains to look for a Christmas tree and we played this in the truck on our way up there, jamming out the whole time.

Your videos improve with every upload and that’s impressive to say the least. This from start to finish was absolutely mesmerizing. The way the visuals transitioned with the music, the colour scheme, narration and pace of the video is just so captivating and down right wicked. It helps that QOTSA is my favourite band, but paving the initial strip of what I hope is a saga (WHATS THE SAGA) of queens videos with this jam packed juicy video has left me wanting an entire desert road of content to cruise through. Well done on this and I seriously hope to see more videos about QOTSA. Maybe a Crooked vultures interlude as well?

4:07 God damn it, this frame could be an album cover in itself. It's beautiful. The colors, the yellow 'Cuda and its antenna splitting "one" and "knows" perfectly in the middle, the waveform in the back. I am in love.

This provided me insight to one of my favorite albums. And 2 of my all-time favorite songs. I never really understood the title name & completely missed the idea that it was a road trip. I've driven that route without anything but an FM radio, & now understand how/why the station keeps changing. On a side note, I'm blown away by the production of this video. I'll definitely look for more of your content. 👍

This album hits different, changed my life for the best and gave me strenght to push through tough times, made me love myself and everyone around me more. I regret nothing on having the iconic cover art forever engraved in my skin, reminder of hardships already conquered and those yet to come.

I heard No One Knows from a friend and instantly fell in love. Bought the album from a local record store, none of my friends were really that interested. I just loved it, played it through so many times. I used to go skating late at night and would bring this album with me. Just amazing, brings up great memories
