A lot of the time classical composers have the direction of "Sul G" (play all on G string) so that the sound has a different feel to it. It's often done to give a very sorrowful or restricted sound.... so I thought it would be an appropriate effect to use at the beginning of this song. :D
I have been playing the violin for almost a year, now, and I am- in my opinion- no where near achieving the same skill level as you. I love listening to you play in your videos!
Your videos are so cool because first, you cosplay while playing, and second, the sound just captures the emotions! Like I feel as if you are an ood playing the violin right now (except without the tentacles).
This is my absolutely favorite piece of music from Doctor Who and any praise I have for you is so much less than you deserve. This is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for doing it.
"I can never seem to play this as expressively as I picture it in my head. :I ... but boy did I try." What are you talking about? That was gorgeous and wonderful and perfection. I can totally tell you were feeling it as you were playing.
Your playing is astoundlingly beautiful. Thanks for allowing the sadness of 'The Song of Captivity' & the joy of the 'The Song of Freedom' to show through without trying to 'spice things up.' (While this be heresy, I think Murray Gold should've released an a cappella version of the 'The Song of Capitivity' -- the Ood 'voices' sound haunting all by themselves; no need to add anything more.) Are there any tracks that Murray Gold's composed for the 11th Doctor's tenure that you'd like to cover?
You are correct about that, but it also was played near the end of the Journey's End later on in that same season. ;) You truly are The Master of violin :)
aww, one of my favorit DW tunes! ^_^ and so well played. Now you have nearly all DW stuff i like. Except Gallifrey and maybe Vale (not Vale Decem {tho i love that one even more, but you got it already}, but the one from the end of Waters of Mars). Anyway, bravo :D Keep that awesomeness coming pls xD
@gyroknight98 hahaha xD well the outfit is just Ood-ish... though maybe not so obvious because I couldn't find any curly tendril-ish things that looked dignified enough. :p .. Thanks!
Glorious. I got the sheet music for this, but I've only been playing for about five months, and only one with real lessons, so could you explain why you play so much further up on the neck, as opposed to playing the same notes on open strings and further down?
i would love to hear you play "Song of Freedom" i love that one :) it and "i am the doctor" (which ive seen youve done) are my favorites from the DW soundtrack
@Jamalshookup1 Thanks, I'm glad you could hear that ^_^ .... I'm not sure about any of the 11-specific songs (except his Theme, that I did do a cover of before)... though I haven't had time to listen to the music from the latest season... Any recommendations? :D
@Jamalshookup1 It kind of felt that way for me too, actually... plus I'm kind of partial to the themes of the 10th-doctor-era (Ood songs/10's theme/Rose's theme/Master's theme etcetc.)
ViolinistBAKA@: Hm,.... I'll have to let you know on that. As I type this, I've got the 1st disc, Series 6 playing in the background. I've found that the further DW goes on, the less memorable the tracks: they're starting to sound like filler. Remember *Rose Defeats the Daleks*, *Doomsday*, or *The Carionites Swarm* ?. Memorable. There aren't too many tracks from Series 5 or the Christmas specials (*and*, all of those soundtracks are on *2* CD's) such as those 3 that I think are outstanding.
I think it'll be my goal to learn this one. Hopefully so I've learned it in time for my next convention. I've been playing since first grade, and I'm sixteen now, so nine, soon ten years, maybe? I'm still nowhere near your talent, since I don't practice as much as I should. All of your other songs have so many parts, but this seems to have just one, so I'll try with this one.
If you where to use the sheet music for piano, and I'm sure I can hear them in the background, what chords for the left hand should be used? My violin teacher has repeatedly told me my ear for hearing stuff like that is very good, but I 'm not good with chords. Is there any way you could help? I've played the violin for 9 years now, and I'm gonna make it my special project to get this one song right for violin, but as a fun thing I'm gonna try make it for piano.
@VioloinistBAKA Hm,... if you fangirl over Steven Moffat,...what must you do over Takeru of sUg, or Miku of An Caf`e and Lc5? You might want consider covering any of their music: sUg's 'Vivivi' or AC's 'Summer Dive'.
@MagicTimeTravel Ty, and... well, wow, I'm not sure ~///~;;;; I'd feel so... egotistical doing that. I don't like hearing myself talk and I'd just sound a fool... xD ... Maybe, maybe someday if people actually would care to see one o_o ... but I do currently answer questions from people on Tumblr.
Magnificient as always ;) if my plan of making a DW fan short movie happens to be done, i'll ask you if you can let me use your covers as soundtrack ! ^^
you should do Abide With Me from gridlock...it's when he's telling martha about gallifrey!!! its a beautiful song and you would legit kill it! *in the good way*
Ditto MagicTimeTravel ! I would love to here what inspires you. But hey fellow commentators ViolinistBaka is on twitter! VB you rock! Btw I'm in Brooklyn, NYC and I certainly can't afford to go to CA! Im I'm bummed? No, because I can listen to the songs of DW from the best RU-vid Violinist, you, VB. Chow bellas! ;)
Any sheet music for this one???? Its so beautiful and i bet it wont sound as nice as your playing. Witch bravo to you my dear keep doing amazing things and maybe one day i can play beautifully like you do
This was fantastic! I mean literally, I'd rather listen to this than the original. It's purer somehow. Lovely job and I'm looking forward to more of your stuff!
I don't know if you do requests but.. I wish you could do Doomsday.. I know it's for vocals and a cello but I'm kinda curious too listen how you arrange the rhythm :D I'm sure you would do a great job! Please *.*
