I dodged a huge bullet with Ian back in 2012. They played Warped Tour and I remember walking around on the grounds to find my friends when I ran into him. I apologized and then soon after realizing who he was, I was starstruck. I asked him for a hug and he gave me one. Soon after, he asked me if I wanted to come to the side of the stage to see his band play because he was about to go on, but I told him I was looking for my friends and turned him down. He was kinda persistent about it at first, but seemed to understand and let me go on my merry little way. A few months later that same year, the news about him came out and I was disgusted. Now I understand why he was so persistent with me.
My best friend listened to Christmas kids for four hours before commiting suicide. This really gives a different, but kind of new outlook on the song. RIP Lucy 21/04/23
On how many vids did you comment things like this , i just saw 3 people say the exsct same thing , and the girls name was also lucy , maybe you were also the same person?
His girlfriend had to literally BEG police to do something because this poor woman saw literal cp on his computer and he would BRAG ABOUT IT to her, and they never took her seriously and looked down on her because she was a sex worker. I've read the court documents (i do not recommend, at all whatsoever, just...don't do it). The two-year-old mentioned in this video is unfortunately not even his youngest victim. He is straight-up evil. Thank god that woman informed police but they took their sweet fucking time getting off their asses and actually doing their job. 35 years isn't enough. He needs to be locked up for life cuz I honestly believe he's incredibly dangerous.
@@zombieedrea The girlfriend doesn’t seem all that innocent. I highly recommend watching the two videos a RU-vidr named Horror Stories did about Ian Watkins and his girlfriend a few years ago.
There’s a song by an artist named something like Divingstation95 called “The Vengeful Spirit of Junko Furuta Raining Hellfire Upon The Writhing Bodies Of Her Murderers”
Sewerslvt, another project that would fit on this list, also made at least one album about/dedicated to Junko Furuta. I'm not sure if it was the debut or Drowning in the sewer. Probably both.
I am extremely fascinated by true crime and murder cases. A few years back, I did a lot of research about Junko Furuta. The whole case disgusted me. I feel like writing a song from a victim’s perspective is extremely hard because you never know how much they went through. I feel like 44 days could have been written better with more thought. It’s extremely hard to capture all of that emotion and come off respectful. What happened to her was horrible and disgusting. She was an innocent woman who was humiliated and tortured for no reason at all. You cover the topic very well. Love yah, Knight
I spent a good hour or so after a Thursday gig chatting with Stu (previous Lostprophets bassist). He admitted Ian was always an asshole through the years, but couldn’t fathom how wretched he truly was. It was hard not to get emotional over the pain he, the band mates, and even his family went through. I’m glad to know Stu is able to continue playing music now though. He’s one of the sweetest people I’ve met
He beat the living daylights out of ian for missing a gig, if he had known what ian was doing he would have ended him. They were actually trying to kick him out of the band before he got busted.
The day that the Mr Kitty stuff broke that he was the worst kind of human absolutely broke my heart. Dude was so talented, but turned out to be an abhorrent person. Edit: Since it didn’t get mentioned in the vid, he got caught sending explicit messages to minors, “apologized”, did it again, and locked down all of his socials to try to keep people from telling people on his pages.
I feel like writing from the perspective of junko herself, basically putting your words in her mouth, is a bit too intimate and personal and thats what feels off to me. Like he didnt know junko, i didnt, no one will ever be able to really know her, so to assume what she was thinking and feeling feels wrong. It also feels too pretty and poetic for such a raw horrible event, idk its one thing to write about a case from an outsiders perspective but to do it from the victims is a little...ehh
Exactly what I was thinking. There’s definitely a respectful way to make a song about a tragedy - and he just didn’t do it. There’s no art or no meaning to the song as far as I can tell other than “this girl suffered, here’s what *I* think it was like from her perspective.” It isn’t showing respect to her or anything. It just feels wrong.
I'd argue it could be taken more as a critique of religions that no matter how innocent you could be in life or how much you endure, you'll still go to hell if you don't believe in their god. I highly doubt that's what they meant though and it was probably just cruel and "edgy" for the sake of it
To be honest 44 days of torture will mentally and spiritually break me, if im on junko shoes literally I will curse everyone even God for such misery, and wonder why God's so cruel for experiencing this kind of hell to me, I'm maybe a bad person, I'm maybe deserve this, I'm maybe not loved by God this is hell, I'm going to hell. As death will give me rest, my anger will boiled my soul that even promised Heaven will not suffice fuck everything, I'll cursed anyone who brings me pain, and I'll cursed God for this is depravity at least in hell I've got a chance, a reward of sweet revenge.
I'm sorry you went through that. Back in 2012, they played warped tour and I just so happen to see him walking around and I ran into him. After registering who he was, i was starstruck and asked for a hug. He gave me one and also invited me to watch his band backstage because he was about to go on, but I didn't take the offer because I was too shy too and I was also trying to find my friends.
I agree with 44 days, not only because the song’s tone just not feel appropriate for the subject matter, but the lyrics are so poorly written. They seem like they were written by a 12 year old. There’s nothing new or important being said, it feels exploitative. Him using the picture of Jonbenet Ramsey for the album cover makes it so much worse.
Lyricism isn't exactly his greatest strength. In fact, I′d argue his strength is limited strictly to making decently catchy tunes (perfect as tiktok music), but that's just my taste/opinion. Even the lyrics in After Dark are shit.
Some shit-head creatives just like to provoke and push the envelope for a reaction. Maybe something happened to them and so they want to piss other people off too, by being insensitive.
I'd just like to say that the "Hell" Mr. Kitty was referring to was more than likely a metephor for the fire or the hell that was her situation entirely, not the hell synonymous with an afterlife.
I remember when ian watkins was on trial. There was a group of superfans who were adamant he was innocent and would harass people who they felt were working against him. It was an interesting look at the conspiratorial mindset. The evidence against him was rock solid, his crimes so appalling, but these fans had built their entire personalities around watkins and they would rather drive themselves mad than let go. They seemed doomed. Maybe they are okay now but i'd bet they are deep into some other nonsense. That mindset seems to be innate.
Great video. I suggest Paper Cuts by Nirvana. It's a very haunting song that tells the true story that Kurt Cobain read in the newspaper of two kids that were abused and locked up in the dark attic by their parents for days on end. Kurt's vocals on that song send chills down my spine.
I would love to see some of Kikuo's songs in the next list, specifically "I'm sorry, I'm sorry" (which would also include "Red riding hood's Wolf" if you count that as a prequel). There are others such as "You're a Worthless Child", "Cotton Candy", "Don't look at me that way", and a lot more I would also recommend.
dude, “i’m sorry, i’m sorry” literally made me nauseous just from reading the lyrics alone. it’s such a disgusting song, and i say this as a kikuo fan myself
One I never see on these lists is "man wearing a helmet" by bedwetter. Probably the most horrifying and impactful portrayal of trauma I've ever heard, genuinely made me feel sick the first time I heard it.
Man wearing a helmet is definitely harrowing, as is probably all of Travis' work post Oblivion Access. And what happend with him some weeks ago makes all of his stuff even more crushing and the backstory even darker.
That last line of 44 days “hell will engulf me slowly” is absolutely disgusting, that woman suffered for 44 days straight and was killed for no real reason with no one knowing where she is to help her, having her body be thrown in a barrel of concrete and loaded into a cement truck, leaving behind a grieving family and their being barely any justice brought to the perpetrators, and mr. Kitty is insinuating that she’s gonna go to hell? Fuck Mr. Kitty for that, genuinely
I don't think that's the implication at all. The song is from her perspective, and maybe he's trying to express what she mightve been feeling in last days? It's definitely not the author saying she's going to burn in hell because she's bad lol
@@Starkweather133 the lyrics hell WILL engulf me slowly, not “hell has engulfed me slowly”, I feel that would’ve been a much better lyric to convey, I know he definitely didn’t mean it like that, but it sure as hell sounds and feels like it, and that implication is VERY fucked up
@@Starkweather133 it’s not about the intention to me, it’s more about the implication you can draw from it, that’s the part that makes me mad, he could’ve easily rewritten that lyric to respect Junko Furuta’s name and memory, but it feels almost like he wrote the lyric for shock value, which, if true, is fucked up, but I won’t hold Mr. Kitty on that if shock value wasn’t the intention
@@dahlaiofficialhell is often not used to allude to some metaphysical location. It’s a state of being. If you are looking at it in a religious context, of course you’ll interpret it as a damnation to her soul, but I don’t think there’s any reason to assume that this is the case here.

The Ian Watkins stuff was...I don't have the word for it. I listened to them a lot as a young teenager when I first discovered emo music and was well into the sub-culture. Naturally, I loved Ian. Lostprophets actually came to my small town when I was 14 and were playing at my favorite small venue, a venue I'd been to many times before and had also met plenty of bands before after shows (it was super easy to meet artists back then, especially at that particular venue where most people would just hang around outside). My friend and I wanted to go and specifically wanted to meet Ian afterwards. But her mom wouldn't let my friend go, and since she couldn't go, I couldn't go. I don't want to say that something for sure would've happened to us. Maybe if we met him it would've been a chat, a pic and that was that. But after all of that stuff came out about him years later, and I really looked into the allegations and his...type??? I guess you could say?? I honestly can't say for sure that something *wouldn't* have happened because at 14, i looked *extremely* young for my age, and considering how often he would brazenly invite minors backstage, on his bus, to hotel rooms...idk man. I think I might've dodged a missile and the thought is terrifying. It cannot be understated how evil this guy is. It's been ten years since I've read those court documents and I will never forget what I read. 35 years isn't enough. He needs to never see the light of day again.
A song I recommend looking into is Healthy End by Shiinamota/Powapowa-P Shiinamota was a Japanese vocaloid producer who struggled greatly with mental health and growing up, in 2015 he (allegedly, it’s not publicly confirmed but all the signs are there) took his own life, and before he passed away he gave the song “ Healthy End “ to a friend to finish and upload after he had already passed away. Parts of it feel almost like a final message from him.
When it comes to disturbing Xiu Xiu songs, I'm very surprised you didn't go with Niece's Pieces or Mary Turner, Mary Turner. Niece's Pieces, lyrically, is about Jaime Stewart contemplating the dark parts of his family history in the days leading up to his niece's birth. And Mary Turner, Mary Turner is about the actual, real life murder of Hazel Turner, Mary Turner and Mary's unborn and unnamed child. "Looking up, looking up, The first and only light it ever sees: The flames, the flames of its mother's burning, burning. Reaching out, reaching out, The first and only loving touch it receives, The falling ash of its mommy's hair on fire."
As a huge Xiu Xiu fan. Mary Turner is probably the song that triggered me the most. Maybe it’s because lyrics are so graphic and the soundscape so disturbing… but that song really gets to me.
I’m not sure what the inspiration was, but Fabulous Muscles is pretty disturbing. Incredibly violent imagery of a toxic infatuation and domestic violence.
There’s very few songs that legitimately disturb me (not a flex at all I promise), but Mary Turner Mary Turner literally gave me goosebumps on a first listen and made my blood run cold. Even worse knowing it was a real life tragedy that was all too common not even 100 years ago
surprised no reference to SewerSlvt was made since they used to go by Junko before changing their name to another direct reference to Junko also the fact that Ian Watkins is doing time while Dahvie Vahnity is STILL free to this day will never stop making me sick to my stomach
theres a different between writing about a serial killer and writing about a victim, imo. using a victims experiences and writing in their perspective about things you couldnt even possibly understand the experience they had is a lot grosser than a song about a killer and talking about the social ramifications of it.
I think it’s fine as long as you’re respectful because you’re bringing awareness to those cases through something as universal as music. This could really be helpful with unsolved cases.
I'm more disturbed by the video to "A Town Called Hypocrisy" than the actual song. Knowing what we now know regarding Watkins, just seeing him surrounded by kids in the video is gross and makes me feel uneasy..... makes me feel dirty for still kinda headbanging to the song every now and then because I still enjoy it as a song alongside 3 other Lostprophets songs, "Rooftops", "Shinobi VS. Dragon Ninja" and "Last Train Home".
I really like how you go to talk some very disturbing time but still give us some motivation and just love that. I really like your content and I hope that you have a great day
Y’all have to listen to that At the Drive-In track. Lead singer Cedric gives some of the most haunting and heartbreaking screams towards the end of the track. Also, that album the track is on is legitimately a 10/10 album.
Hey really liked your List, have a few songs I would have put on the List, "Understanding in a Car Crash" by Thursday, "King Park" By La Dispute and "Limousine" by Brand New, they all have very unsettling back storys based on real events :(
The song by At the Drive In made me realize there's a similar song I guarantee you nobody has covered on one of these channels: Juarez by Tori Amos, from 1999. Tori is the founder of RAINN. Dropped off the edge again down in Juarez "Don't even bat an eye If the eagle cries" the rasta man says Just cause the desert likes Young girls flesh and No angel came No angel came I don't think you even know What you think you just said So go on and spill your seed, Shake your gun to the Rastaman's head 'Cause the desert, she must be blessed and No angel came No angel came (listen, darling) No angel came There's a time to keep it up, a time to keep it in The Indian is told the cowboy is his friend A time to keep it up, boys, a time to keep it in The Indian is told the cowboy is his friend You know that I can breathe even when I cheat Should, should, should, should've been over for me No angel came No angel came No angel came (listen, darling) No angel came No angel came No angel came No angel came
Me and a Gun by Tori Amos would also have worked. It is about her own rape. ...Do you think that I should soread for you your brother, your cousin, mr ed?
Thank you for making these videos! I love finding songs with backstories and that are based on true events. These are some I know of (sorry that there's so many) Angel of Death - Slayer (based on Josef Mengele and the experiments he performed during WW2) August 7, 4:15 - Bon Jovi (based on the murder of the daughter of Bon Jovi's former personal manager) Chlorine - Trophy Eyes (is about the boy who had saved the singer of the song from drowning and later committed suicide) The Death of Emmett Till - Bob Dylan (you can tell from the title what it's about) Deep Red Bells - Neko Case (based on the murders of the Green River killer) The Evil Has Landed - Testament (based on 9/11) Fiddler of the Green - Demons & Wizards (based on two car accidents which Kürsch witnessed) Guyana (Cult Of The Damned) - Manowar (is about Jonestown) I Don't Like Mondays - The BoomTown Rats (about the Cleveland Elementary School shooting in San Diego) Jacob's Dream - Alison Krauss (about two children who had gotten lost and a man had a dream about them, which led to finding the children's dead bodies) Jenny Was a Friend of Mine - The Killers (based on the murderer Robert Chambers) Let Him Dangle - Elvis Costello (based on Chris Craig and Derek Bentley) Limousine - Brand New (based on a tragic and gruesome car accident involving a child) Nanking - Exodus (about the the 1930s Nanking Massacre) One Way Or Another - Blondie (based on a real stalker) People Who Died - The Jim Carroll Band (based on people he knew irl who had died) Pumped Up Kicks - Foster the People Sadie - Alkaline Trio (based on Susan Atkins, a member of The Manson Family) Secrets of Wysteria - Steampianist (based on Albert Fish) Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2 (based on the 13 unarmed civil rights demonstrators who were killed by British Army paratroopers) The Way - Fastball (based on an elderly couple who drove off and disappeared, who were found dead later on)
Sorry I'm late, but here's a couple ideas for a future installment: 1) "Wishing (I Had a Photograph of You)" by A Flock of Seagulls. It was based on an experience where the lead singer, Mike Score, met a woman and spent some time getting to know her. When it came time for him and his band to go on tour, he asked the woman if he could have a photograph before departing. She refused because she believed that he would go on to become famous and forget her. Just the fact that he never got to see her again, let alone have a token to remember her by, makes the story pretty unsettling for me. 2) "Cars" by Gary Numan. Like the previous song, this is based on a true event. This event involved Gary in a road rage incident. He was stuck in traffic, and some people wanted to beat him up... for some reason. The fact that his car was thankfully locked provided a safe haven for him.
"Possum Kingdom" by The Toadies was popular in my day. It sounds so upbeat until you hear its kyrics and realize this guy is luring a woman to be murdered....
Kicked it off with acid bath?? What??!!! I don't know anything about this channel, i havent watched the video yet and I don't know who you are, but I am subscribed immediately.
I really needed to hear that little message in the middle of the video. I've been dealing with so much mentally and I've been feeling like nothing I'm doing matters and I'm wasting my youth trying to reach this unobtainable goal. I just want to live comfortably without my BPD getting in the way of things. Also Christmas Kids was a song I listen to a lot for some reason. It's really good but the backstory was really sad
worth mentioning is sewerslvt's entire album "we had good times together dont forget that" her entire history and the tragic end to her very short and dramafilled career is...kinda disturbing? but at the end its just kinda sad
@@kermanbizzlebop8895 bro wdym, she doesn’t have to be dead for her career to have had a tragic end. You literally specifically named the exact tragedy and still said “nothing tragic about it BUT” like what
@@unofficialmajima617 i rarely doubt allegations of that sort but to be perfectly honest, I'm not fully sure about what happened with sewerslvt. I don't rlly listen to her music anymore but like. i just dont know for sure....
This is one of my favorite types of videos from you, I'm so pumped you made another one! I agree with you on 44 days. I already was put off by the subject matter but when I listened to a little bit of the song, the tone was COMPLETELY wrong for the subject matter. It just sounded like a fun EDM song, not something detailing a horrific and tragic murder. Definitely tone deaf on Mr. Kitty's part.
these are my favorite videos! you have such a wide knowledge of music and have a lot of compassion talking about difficult subjects like these. i can’t thank you enough for making content like this!!
At The Drive-In and their sister project The Mars Volta have a ton of lyrics that are introspective towards darker things. I highly recommend TMV's song Equus 3, which is thought to be about actor Danny Masterson having Cedric's dog killed and sexually assaulting Cedric's wife. Furthermore, their entire album Frances The Mute is a crazy dark story, and has roots in actual tragedy regarding the passing of a band member.
De-Loused is the album you're thinking of, not Frances, and it was not actually about a band member, but a friend of Cedric's- although a founding member of the band did pass away just one month before the release of the album. Still very sad stuff ):
A band and a distrubing-ish song that I would recommend is Primus' My Name is Mud. The band Primus formed around late 1980s and got popular in the early 90s in the funk metal genre, similar to Bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers and stuff like that. Tho what separate Primus from other bands was singer and Bassists Les Claypool's quirky bass lines and wacky lyrics, songs ranging from a fisherman named John, to a cat named Tommy who swings for girls near a milk bar. However in their 1993 album Pork Soda, there is a song in there that I find kinda disturbing and definitely shocking. Its called "My Name is Mud". The title refers to someone being called Mud, which is basically slang for an idoit or unintelligent person, second- its instrumentals sound very wonky and odd, feels like your listening to a busted radio thats distorted. But what really gets the song are it's lyrics, there may not be a whole story behind the song (or atleast not to my knowledge), but I believe its still worth talking about since it's about a murder between our main character "mud" and his friend (who mud murders). I won't spoil much else of the song, but I highly encourage you guys to listen to it, really good stuff
I'm Mexican and I like the way you say Spanish words, nice job 👍 I appreciate that you make actual attempts to pronounce names and words in other languages even if it's daunting❤
Thank you for another amazing video, Knight! Your hopeful messages bring light to an otherwise heavy video. Also, this may be random, but I really like the background music track. Keep up the incredible work, mate ❤
Crazy to hear you reference Acid Bath dude. Literally wearing my “When the Kite String Pops” shirt right now. Actually blows my mind that you know who they are dude!
I learned about Christmas Kids in about 2015ish~ and I always thought that the song was interesting the way it told a story, so just now finding out what happened to Ronette is horrible
if you want another one that ties into the mars volta track, check out 'January 10, 2014' by The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die, it's about a woman who went vigilante on that. whole situation and, to this day, has never been caught. also, an important thing you left out of 'real death' is that the entire album was recorded using his wife's instruments (she was also a musician -- one of my favorites -- originally went by WOELV but then changed her name to Ô Pain), in her room, next to the bed she died in. I'm old as balls and have been a fan of Phil since _The Glow, Pt. 2_ and A Crow Looked At Me was a _huge_ change of pace for him, usually he would spend AGES recording something, taking forever writing layers of music and lyrics and recording it in this big church he's turned into a recording space on a giant ancient broken 24 track analog machine. him shifting to just _barfing_ out songs that are made of _pure_ anguish in a single take on instruments that aren't his own and putting out this _masterpiece_ of grief is. the man is talented lol. it's a great album, but it's so damn hard to listen to. makes me cry instantly.
hell yes At The Drive In. a lot of their songs are about social issues like those addressed in Invalid Litter Dept, however that one is just so striking.
A song I never see on these lists is Human Sadness by The Voidz. It's about Julian Casablancas (the lead singer) being abused and neglected by his father (Hits you on the head and says "Come here, can you fix my tie?"), along with the chord progression being that of the last song Mozart wrote before he died (Requiem). It's a hauntingly beautiful song. Another song I think deserves to be on this list is I Will Follow You Into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie. It's about the lead singer, Ben telling the person he loves about what he would do if they died. "Love of mine, someday you will die, but I'll be close behind. I'll follow you into the dark." (Following them into the dark representing suicide). "If Heaven and Hell decide that they both are satisfied, and illuminate the no's on their vacancy signs; if there's no one beside you, when your soul embarks, then I'll follow you into the dark." I am not religious by any means, but I believe the comments about heaven and hell are meant to represent the unknown. This was so long because I relate a LOT to this song because I know I would do the same thing if I lost my boyfriend. I can't listen to this song without crying lol (Don't Fear) The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult is another song that I would put on here. It's about the inevitability of death and how you shouldn't fear The Reaper, obviously meant to represent death itself. "Came to her last night of sadness, it was clear she couldn't go on." I think that line is meant to represent Buck's wife dying, and the follow up lines "Then the door was open and the wind appeared, the candles blew and then disappeared, the curtains flew and then he appeared, saying don't be afraid." Are meant to represent death finally coming for her, and the very last verse of the song, "Come on, baby (and she had no fear), and she ran to him (then they started to fly), they looked backward and said goodbye (she had become like they are), she had taken his hand (she had become like they are), come on, baby (don't fear the reaper)" Is her finally passing on. This combined with the haunting guitar, the cowbell which I think is meant to represent the clock of death slowly ticking, chiming in every few seconds and being completely absent during the guitar solo which I think is meant to represent death. Truly a beautiful song. Sorry if this whole thing was messy, I tried to formulate it best I could.
I’m a Welsh artist and I’m currently learning to play my guitar and write songs. If there’s one thing I want to do, just one small thing in my musical career, is to shout “FUCK IAN WATKINS” during a gig. Wales doesn’t deserve to have it’s beautiful land gained by such venom.
I can never decide if it’s better for people like him to be forgotten entirely and never given the attention they’re desperate for, or to remind each other of how vile they are whenever it’s relevant and blot out any admiration or respect that used to be had for them with disgust and hatred. Both are pretty good.
3 dark song suggestions 1. I don’t like Monday’s by the boomtown rats Written about a school shooter that said they did it because they didn’t like mondays Make it stop (Septembers children) by Rise against About teen suicide from bullying I can’t stand losing you- the police About suicidal thoughts
As an At The Drive In die hard fan I would have went with Napoleon Solo because of the pain you can hear in the recording due to losing two of their greatest friends. But I appreciate you choosing Unvalid Litter Dept. as most don't know the story behind that song.
Yes dire trip is definitely one of my favorite channels and he is absolutely amazing when it comes to the respect and honor that he provides when discussing victims of various crimes. You guys both have amazing channels and I absolutely appreciate everything you do❤
If you ever do another one of these, I'd look into Giles Corey's self-titled album. It's packaged in with a 120-page booklet that is semi-autobiographical about s*icide.
Hail The Sun wrote a song about Elisa Lam called Disappearing Syndrome and it’s incredibly chilling but so good! Highly recommend them, they have a lot of great songs inspired by true dark events
Always love to see some Xiu Xiu representation! One of my favorite bands for their extremely raw approach to music Also just to add a little bit more context to I Luv the Valley OH! The lyrics about having to take the pill is taken from a conversation with Jamie’s late father who urged him to take his antidepressants.
Tonedeff - More Like You A song that opens with a recount of a childhood memory in which Tonedeff's drunken father attempts to kill him. The song deals with Tone slowly resembling his father more as time passes
idk if you’ve already covered it but Sleep, Famous Last Words, and desert song (all) by my chemical romance have heavy themes and backstories. I mean, of course mcr has heavy songs but these are the heaviest in particular. I don’t want to spoil anything but basically, desert song is devastating to listen to and is even more so when you know what it’s about. Sleep and Famous Last Words are both on the album The Black Parade, that was written in a haunted house. Those two tracks in particular are haunting when you know that fact.
For Xiu Xiu, you used the proper album covers, but attributed them oppositely. Contextually and thematically, even though the song in question appears on neither album, that is important if anyone decides to dig deeper. Just an FYI!
i think another addition to this list could be “asking for it” by hole. it was written by courtney love after she was sexually assaulted during one of her shows and is essentially an expression of her experience with it.
If you wanna make a part 4, there are 3 depressing (expect 1 which is an album) but not really disturbing songs is “12 stout street” by RX papi, “4 Morant” by Doja cat, “Mother I sober” by Kendrick Lamar/Kdot and Tyler the creator’s “bastard” album. Their amazing songs but saddening if you hear about their backstories “12 stout street” was released on Nov 19th of 2021, papi was talking about his whole life being destroyed when he was young. He was doing drugs and got robbed by some gangsters years ago Then came back home but he got got kicked out of the house by his abusive mother, after he got kicked out, he’s joining in gangs, becoming robbers, drug addicts/dealers after he moved away from there. (he’s gotten help now and 12 stout street was his childhood location where he originally lived) one of the saddest hip-hop rap songs in history. His vocals gets more angrier and upset throughout the whole song (it gives me goosebumps hearing him like that) but kinda normal in the beginning, he wasn’t even rapping at this point. He was talking about his abusive life. Poor man. “4 morant” by was set in Nov 29th in 2012. She uploaded on SoundCloud, 11 years where she wasn’t feeling herself. The song itself talks about drug abuse, self-harm, self-hatred/loathing, depression and exploitation from fame. The instrumental where she got is “brokendate” by com truise released in 2011. Her song is something related to her brother doing illegal things (?). Doja cat confirmed that it was not her “suicide note” song, it was a vent song and never wanted to bring that topic up again. (Somehow the song turned into a trend) “Mother I sober” was released on May 13th of 2022 along with his album “Mr morale & the big steppers” where he opens up his lyrics confronting his trauma head-on by describing the experiences. His mother came to ask him if he was SA’d by his cousin. Lamar said no, but then his mother is experiencing paranoia and suicidal thoughts that she had come from being SA’d from her abuser. Lamar also said he never wanted to be a drug addict but rather lust for himself (like the DAMN album) he now then opens up the lyrics about his former fiancé for cheating on him, he describes about the ongoing remorse guilt within his mistakes. Lamar was also viewed by some toxic, over-sexualized culture faced on the black (African American) community, that he exclaimed black children in the African American community being SA’d faced the biproduct culture itself, which it doesn’t always promote ideals of safety and security. Named later as the “generation curse” of the black community. Towards the end of the song Kendrick was finally freeing himself by the toxicity by employing transparency, pride and positivity, breaking out of this generation curse that he reasserts himself: “he is the only human”. The song itself was set to be an awareness song about being SA’d. (Drake brought this up on his “The heart part 6” for his beef with Lamar. He lied about that, Man..drake is a terrible liar and horrible person) Not really sure if “The 30th” by Billie eilish counts but the song itself is referring to a car crash that happened on Nov 30th of 2021 in 110 freeway in the south Los Angeles area that led two people being hospitalized. It also released on Jul 21 of 2022. And Tyler’s the creator album “bastard” whom is released in Dec 25th 2009, is one of his horrorcore darkest albums in history. It contains ALOT of dark themes in it (especially in rotten Sarah)
I was going to comment that I don't feel that the song about Junko was particularly inappropriate because as someone who considers myself pretty desensitized to violence from the internet, her story shook me to my core when I first read about it and I desperately want the world to know what happened to this girl and the injustice she faced by the Japanese legal system. And then I learned from other comments that Mr. Kitty is a pedophile and I think that really puts the whole thing into a different, disturbing perspective.
I never knew that about Invalid Litter Department. Ive been listening to that song for years and years, i knew it was about something much more serious than most of their lyrics but never bothered to see what it was about. Very cool.
I was introduced to “Real Death” while I was going through a rough patch in my life. The pure, unadulterated grief and pain presented by that song is very meaningful to me, and never fails to hit me in the stomach.
I've listened to Mr. Kitty, along with Crystal Castles. I love these two bands/groups. The lyrics are disturbing, and the music is oddly satisfying. I also have listened to Mister Scoops, whose music is also dark, sometimes loud and irritating to others. Mister Scoops is a special case, since they are not on Spotify, and only on RU-vid. You also cannot find their channel now, which is even more odd, but the music stains the internet, forever living only in memory. These weird electronic, digital type tunes are nostalgic for me, it reminds me of the 2000's and my childhood.
If you’re looking for a Part 4, Slipknot’s song, Iowa (title track from 2nd album) is pretty fucked up. Corey Taylor summarized the song as playing with a corpse, and as he sang the song he vomitted on his naked self while throwing pots and cutting himself with glass throughout and you can even hear some of it on the song. Other choices for this from them are Purity and Scissors.
Another song i suggest is Ruru's Suicide Show On A Livestream by Shinsei Kamattechan, a song partially inspired by the roro chan story, along with other stories like that along with the struggles of self harm and mental health with at least one of the band members
When At the Drive-In was mentioned after Ian Watkins. I thought for a moment someone in the band had done something deplorable like Watkins and I'd have to throw more CDs away.
Honestly with the whole 44days song I feel like it should hurt to listen to, we only got to read her story but she endured it and got practically 0 justice so while it could be seen as insensitive, I think it's good that it makes us feel bad, that maybe we could try to imagine how she felt and being so hopeless, it makes you angry and want justice so hopefully there will never be another junko case. Same with the song Daddy by korn, I think these fucked up songs forces us to look into evil and what evil does. Obviously not all songs are equal and I think any song that exploits a tragedy bc it's edgy are most likely going to be trash anyway
For the killers of Junko, one of the was associated with the Yakuza (Japanese mafia) and were way more powerful than they are now. One of the fathers was a comedian but was then blacklisted due to his son’s crime. Unfortunately he made sex dolls and one of them was horrifyingly similar to Junko, her family sued him and only a few were made. One of the mother’s vandalized her grave and blamed her for her son’s imprisonment to the point she is buried in an unmarked grave. Her school gave her family her diploma and she was buried in her work uniform (she died before she got the job). A Japanese magazine company illegally published the names of the murderers but I believe they have new names (the UK also does this and I think other countries as well). Reason? Because she declined to go out with the one of them.
I was wondering how you would tackle Acid Bath lyrics.. When the Kite String Pops is one of the greatest metal albums ever! Every song's lyrical content is disturbing, would love to hear some backstories!✌️
A Crow Looked At Me will forever be one of my absolute favorite albums. It’s up there alongside Nick Drake’s Pink Moon, Giles Corey’s self-titled, and Elliott Smith’s Either/Or (the whole discography of Elliott Smith honestly). It is definitely music, what it’s definitely not is entertainment. The peak of sincerity and authenticity in music.
