One of the most influential groups of our time, to be sure. The first time I heard the song, I Started a Joke, it made me cry. Barry has written hundreds of songs, for many top singers! It's sad to think he's the only one left, isn't it? I didn't really listen much to the youngest brother, Andy, but he certainly had the family voice.

The Bee Gees wrote 100's of songs for themselves and other artists. Check out their younger brother Andy Gibbs Shadow Dancing. Also Check out the song Heartbreaker by Dionne Warwick. The Bee gees wrote that song for her. Berry Gibb once said that they were not singers but song writers.

It was custom written for Otis Redding, but he died in a plane crash before he could record it. You are correct, beautiful music, beautiful lyrics, just three brothers singing with their true voices and no gimmicks, no auto tune (wasn't even around in the 70s) and no pitch correction. Listen to any of the many songs (they wrote 1,000) that they recorded and you will hear the same beautiful harmonies of the three brothers. Sadly only Barry, the lead with the falsetto and oldest brother, is alive today. The twins Maurice (short hair) died in 2003 and Robin (long hair) died in 2012. 😥

May I suggest Al Green, Smokey Robinson and Barry White... There was a show on TV in the 70's called SOUL TRAIN! You should take a musical "trip" back in time to expand your musical knowledge.

Always loved the Bee Gees (although I didn't want to admit it back then - thought it was more cool to be into progressive rock). Their seventies music was such a departure from what they performed in the sixties. You might want to be on the lookout for the "Still Waters" CD that they put out in 1997. i think it is one of their best albums. You strike me as someone who appreciates and respects the music. Thank you so much for not interrupting these great songs (the interruptions drive me up the wall). I know this is off topic, but there is a video of a live performance of Boz Skaggs performing "Loan Me A Dime" from about 1985. It runs about 15 Minutes (some of the versions on youtube may show a different year) and will absolutely blow your mind. I think it is way better than the original version that he performed with Duane Allman.

My friend. You get IT! You just were born in a different time, but you were willing to listen to music of another generation to find if their music was more than just rapping, autotune singing, electronic compositions, drum box, and NEGATIVE or non sensical lyrics. A simpler time where the priority was melody and lyrics which superseded flashing skin and glorifying hate and negative values. From an old guy, I'm glad there are younger people that are appreciating the music of another time. Wait till you listen to the music of the big band era of the 40's, the jazz era bands and singers, the Beatles and Led Zepplin. Enjoy the journey. Barry Gibb is 75 this year and was just inducted into the country Hall of Fame. He’s still writes produces and sings amazing songs. Cross all genres of music. Truly magical voices. Once in several lifetimes

We had a thing in our family where my father, my kids father and my sister's father in law passed away on the same day in different years. With the Gibbs Andy passed in 1988, his dad four years later in 92, Mo was 9 years after that in 2003 with Robin following 9 years later in 2012 and their mother 4 years after Robin in 2016. Strange how numbers work in our lives.

I went to their concert in LA when I lived there... so crazy couldn't even hear them... and then baby brother Andy came out and it went even more wild. I love their sound so much. The twins have passed away and Andy, well he is gone too/sad. Barry the oldest is the only one still with us.

I could give you lists and lists of artists in that era you should react to. I grew up listening to this music because of my dad. The commodores, Chicago, air supply, cristopher cross, air supply, Karen carpenter, crystal gayle, Steve warier, restless heart, Linda ronstadt. I could go on and on lol.

If you're going to do the 70s, you have to do the Carpenters, another of the best liked artists. The first ten years of my marriage and all the way to now, was filled with the BeeGees, Carpenters, the Righteous Brothers, Neil Diamond, and more. I grew up.in the 70s and love the Bee Gees. Righteous Brothers are incredibly soulful in their singing as well but they are from the 60s. I can pretty much enjoy any genre if it has deep meaning.

You say you are a music writer...You could have given a much better analysis of how the song was written or how it was good structurally, or with the lyrics, etc. but you ... Failed

I grew up with The Bee Gees, which was short for "Brothers Gibb" B-Brothers, G-Gibb. They were brothers with the last name of Gibb.

Listen to their early hits from the 60s. Awesome. I like their earlier tunes rather than the disco Era. Some of the later stuff was good but just not as good as their earlier fame.
