Oh boy, you should check all three of those songs but I'm going to toss in a beauty. His collaboration with Tyler Childers called Fraulein. This is something these two should do again. Country/Western and Americana would not be able to handle these two together and blow up......

Hi , nice video! I don't know if this was mentioned in all the comments but Bob Fudge was a real person and a real cowboy. My great grandfather Denby worked with him on the XIT cattle drives from Texas to Montana in the early turn of the century. They ended up working for the Hatchet Creek Ranch in Fallon , MT and Alden Denby started a Homestead Act homestead there. I remember stories about Bob Fudge and other cowboys and homesteaders in the Terry and Fallon Montana region where XIT cattle were brought

This song reminds me of my great grandma who passed at 112 years old, she used to tell stories of traveling by horse and wagon, getting into altercations with native Americans, to seeing the industrial revolution, automobiles, steam trains, the great depression... would be a really weird time to be alive.. wished I was old enough to pick her brain some more.

What's great about this Ian Tyson penned tune is that you realize it's the ghost of Bob Fudge that is singing the song. Its erie . Colter made it his own. Especially the ooh, ooh that he sings. I play this song a lot on my radio show on 92.7 the Bull in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

OK, For some real history about this song and Bob Fudge. It is a true story. (I know this because of my family's history. I grew up in WV and MT, where my family if from. ) First. The story of Lonesome Dove and the cattle drive to Montana is total Holly Wood BS. That cattle drive did happen, But it all took place in Texas. The first cattle drive from Taxes to Montana was made buy Nelson Story ( a relative of mine ) in 1866 along the Bozeman Trail. Shortly after that cattle drive Bob Fudge came up to MT with a herd of cattle. Bob Fudge wrote about his life in the book "Bob Fudge: Texas Trail Driver, Montana-Wyoming Cowboy” All true story's. When Colter Wall sings about what Bob Fudge said about seeing many young men die. Bob Fudge was not kidding. Hell! driving cattle from point A to B in Texas was deadly at that time in history. Driving cattle from TX to MT was very, VERY! deadly. BTW. That is not thunder you here in this video. It is the wind. Ask me how I know. :-) Lol

@ironwoodworkman4917
@ironwoodworkman4917 2 месяца назад
@@Jessehermansonphotography Yes, Sir If Holly Wood was smart, They would have made a movie about both cattle drives and maybe even about Bob Fudge. They do not want people to know Nelson Story was a Hillbilly that grew up on the Appalachian Plateau AKA Ohio River Valley. My family is from South Eastern Ohio and North Western W.Va. Heck, I do not think they want any American to know their real history.

I have driven from Lampasas Texas to Montana a few times and I have been to or seen the sights in most of the exact places he describes in this song. I also have a deep emotional connection to the state of Montana. So just imagine how it makes a person feel to basically be sung to directly and completely out of the blue like that the first time I heard this song.
