Your video was great! I would like to recommend two things however. 1. Would you be alright with providing close caption for the video? I don't have the best hearing so having something to read can help me better understand you. There's nothing wrong with your audio quality, the closed caption is just something that could really help me! 2. Don't burn yourself out of the sonic games. There's a ton of them and I highly recommend perhaps taking periodic breaks, like after each "era" or every 2-3 games. In those breaks you could make videos on other franchises too if you feel like it! Ty for the video!
@tubes680 the caption thing.. I’ve thought about that before. I should look into a convenient way to get some better captions. I don’t really have the time to manually write them myself but I also WANT to have them. I’ll look into stuff rn also yeah that was the plan anyways, the “playing every sonic game” thing is an eventuality not something I am rushing into doing as fast as possible. Thx for watching btw :)
@@tubes680 Okay so update, on the subtitles thing. I found out youtube lets you literally just paste your script in the subtitles and it syncs it to the video. The video goes a tiny bit off script so it might not be AS accurate as it should be, but i think its decent enough. I'll try to do this for other videos in the future too as long as i can remember!!
@@samcandles Thank you so much! That means a lot to me ur videos will be easier for me to understand now that I have a visual of what ur saying. It's these small things that help y'know?
One of the things I really like about Sonic 1 is how the zones feel like they naturally progress from full nature to factory. Marble Zone even having the grass from Green Hill is actually a nice way to show the slow transition between nature and slight man-made structures, and the transition keeps on going as you progress through each zone, until you get to Scrap Brain Zone which is fully mechanical. I know Sonic 3 does world building even better but it's great to see that even the first Sonic game is already cementing the idea that the world can be more than mere level themes.
I always think about how sonic 2 blends its level theming together *poorly*, that I never think about how sonic 1 does it a bit better. that is a good point!
@@tubes680 I feel like i am spoiling a video i will release soon, but that's actually because it was originally going to have a storyline focused around time travel, most of the zones in the released game are based around that. but pretty much all the story elements ended up being cut, so it ends up just kind of being a mishmash of stuff from some of the different time periods that were planned
@@samcandles I don't have a persona of my own so I just chose Susie from the hot game kirby planet robobot. So now I am Susie from kirby planet robobot.
i think it is kind of fair to say though. platformers are an extremely oversaturated genre on the NES and sonic (in like, a very general concept level) is a very unique game compared to those which the entire initial success of the genesis was based around i wasn't really saying that pre-sonic platformer games were bad, more that they did not have the kind of "edge" or unique qualities that sold sonic so hard
Yeah this has always been my least favorite. It has 2 of the worst levels in Sonic (Scrap Brain or Marble Zone and Labyrinth zone). And only really has 1 great level.
Sonic 1 is SLOW?!?! HOW DARE YOU. Sonic 1 is not slow i will have you know. I would NEVER spew this GEN Z PROPAGANDA! Are you not entertained by the high speed block riding or marble zone? Or the rush of waiting for blocks in spring yard? This is a platformer dam it! Not a hold right simulator. Maybe you just need to watch a glitchless speedrun and get over your skill issue 😂😂😂 Nah but for real good job with the video and its actually inspired me to make more sonic videos... which would also be the first video i made in like half a year
