Random U.S kid listening to the unsettling screen: - Rocking back and forth sucking his thumb and crying - *Meanwhile, in Japan...* - Japanese kid breakdancing -
You know what’s scary? I was playing collision course and I didn’t know it was the boss so I thought it was randomly playing and it scared the crap out of me. Now going back I realize now but it’s still gives me the chills
I know I'm 2 years late, but it wasn't really forgotten per se. It was actually just a marketing campaign for Sonic Team or Sega or whatever it is nowadays to get attention to themselves to tease the release of Sonic Forces. Unfortunately, literally nobody cared (which is pretty fitting considering the game it was hinting at)
I think that the hanging sprites were gonna be used with the "I'm outta here!" thing. Sonic would say "I'm outta here!", jump into a noose, and... You know. Edit: After researching online, I figured out the "follow the clues" thing led to a Instagram post with some of Sonic CD's original animation cels.
In elementary school, my buddy owned a Sega CD and Sonic CD. One late night, I was at his house where we were trying out those sound test codes. When that screen with the boss music popped up ... yeah, we were unsettled, too. You're not alone, Cybershell. It's spooky, especially when you don't know Japanese and that screen, that deformed Sonic, could be saying *anything*.
6:00 I think it was written in hiragana because of the "round" look it's known for, which fits with the cutesy tone of the image. Katakana is more sharp in comparison. It's sort like how mangaka will change which writing system they'll use for the onomatopoeia depending on the vibe they're going for. Hiragana for softer sfx and katakana for more intense sfx.
@@Sonictheoofhog4That's actually how the two alphabets are taught as comparison for English speakers, as saying "Japanese has two alphabets" sounds really intimidating until you realize that English technically does too with upper and lower case letters. The grammatical rules of when to use each character just differ. So yeah, thinking about it like that is more accurate than you realize!
illuminatioracle Yeah it’s most definitely the darkest in terms of vibe and atmosphere. Eggman literally wants to completely redo the Past so he can create the World in his own polluted distorted image. You’ve seen what the Bad Future stages all look like, dark smoggy air, metallic platforms, thunder and lighting in the skies and destroyed Nature and wildlife.
1:18 This is super obscure, but Sonic seems to actually have a power for predicting future dangers. He sometimes sneezes/rubs his nose. You can even see it for a frame or two in the opening animation of the game. It's so subtle, but this sprite may have been for right before a boss fight. Before the enemy appeared, Sonic may have sneezed. This video really goes in depth on it:ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2VtFldF75B0.html&feature=emb_logo
fun fact: the sneezing sprites may have been used for some sort of superpower similar to spider-sense, where sonic would sneeze right before he senses danger. this is backed up by the opening cinematic, where sonic sneezes after seeing little planet chained to the ground, and the japanese sonic the hedgehog manga that sold in japan in the 90's.
From the way sonics quills are pointed like he's falling and how his feet are partly missing I belive the the sprite at 2:17 is a looney tunes este fall gag where the the floor is removed and he's floats until he notices and falls.
Okay, I saw this along with many "scary" Sonic things when I was pretty young. I'm sixteen now, and that "fun is infinite" crap still scares the hell out of me.
IpodJunk _3 I decided to watch this video thinking I'd be fine, and I saw the faces and was just fine- then the US music started and I wanted to cry :P
It's slightly unsettling, but I've seen worse in video games. For example, in a NES game called Felix the Cat, the game over screen shows him with his face torn in half. It's surprisingly freaky.
6:22 - you know in the 90s as rave culture was really big, gay men used to wear rings on their necklaces to let other gay men know which team they batted for. so yeah, theres sonic with a cockring in an official game, no wonder he never seemed interested in Amy
15:42 I might know how this works, see the Sonic Team Presents and Press Start Button text shares the same memory data, but since you can't see the Sonic Team Presents text while the Japanese credits is there, Press Start Button has nothing to deactivate itself
Incidentally, this issue is also easily fixable with a hex editor and a copy of the ROM. The Cutting Room Floor's Bugs page for Sonic 1 lists the offset to go to (depending on your revision) and what to change if one is interested.
"You might be a grown adult and this is all not scary to you" Excuse you, I am 20 years old and that screen still fucking scares me. I have no idea why. I think it's the laugh that gets me.
Professor Pancakes: Same here bro....this is just one creepy ass image....but...only in America is it truly horrifying, but it still has a little bit of eeriness to it still.
Eh, the Donkey Kong Country game over screen still scares me. STORY TIME! When I was 5, I had got a Super Nintendo with Mario Paint and Donkey Kong Country, which was from my half brother. Whenever I got a game over, I quickly shut off the console and didn't touch it for a while.
I heard somewhere that the Fun is Infinite Screen is actually an Anti-Piracy screen where if you pirated the game, you'd be taken to the screen. It makes sense as it says "Fun is Infinite with Sega Enterprises" which to people who pirate the game could mean "Hey, you'll have more fun if you buy from us rather than pirating out games". Again, I only heard this once and I have no idea if it is true. Edit: Ok guys I'm aware it's not true now.
I haven't seen anyone mention this, so I'll point out that the reason why the Japan exclusive credits easter egg shown at 15:08 results in the "Press Start Button" text appearing is that the "Sonic Team Presents" text is in the same memory bank as the Start text, and since it's not cleared correctly by the time the Title Screen appears, the Sonic Team text overrides the Start text; however, the Sonic Team text isn't spawned when the Credits cheat is activated, so it no longer overrides the Start text, allowing it to function properly.
"of course they decided a hedgehog on a human romance was not a good idea, so no future sonic games would come up again with this stupid idea" oh boy...
Years later: Sega: lets reuse the romace of a hedghog and a human for a kissing sene! The people playing on this scene: WHY SEGA WHY DID DO THIS SONIC 06 IS TERRIBLE YOU IDIOTS!!!
my opinion on sonic cd's US boss music: 1. it's intimidating, 2. it gives you the feeling that you're fighting against a secret boss or something 3. it's not that scary. my opinion on sonic CD'S JP boss music: 1. It's funky 2. it gives you the feeling you are in a disco, 3. it's also not that scary. so the soundtracks are equal.
Edward WAIT in sonic forces there is a new character called infinite, and the image says infinite fun Sega enterprises and there's a comment saying "Fun really is infinite with Sega enterprises" and it had glitchy text. Coincidence? I don't think so! ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED!
Fun is infinite is also referenced in Sonic Mania, on the metal card with the download code if you check on the bottom right corner in fine print it will say Fun is Infinite
Chaos Vs Sonic that got proven fake. I know you watched the video about that. i did too but i checked the metal card and sonic mania files. I didn't find a single message that says fun is infinite
@Baldhina Asnake in the actual screen in the game? Depends, it plays the boss theme Of course, the Japanese/European version of the boss theme is a nice and catchy song, and with the screen in the background, it's kinda funny, while the American version gives off an unsettling feeling
I still love the fact that the secret Majin screen goes from “G̵͙͎̗͔͈͔̬̘͎̲̯̮̉̾̋̋͌̑͆̽́̎̄̇̔̎̇͜ͅi̸̢̘͔̦̱̞̩̳̻̫͕̲̅̑͒̓̋̀́̓̉͆̓̇̚͠ͅv̶͇̮̩̞͉͖͓̝̰̈ḝ̴͎͓͖̣͙̦̠̼̜̺̜̫̜̉͂͊͐̿̓̂͘͝ ̴̧̧̟͈͔͇͉̗̤̦͙̗̯͝m̵̢͍̘̱̖̬͉̗̙̜̼̠̺̌̂̆͂̿̎̈́e̶̢̛͚̟̠̱̗̺̞̰̟̣̒̓͐͐̌͌̋͐̔̿̕͜͠͠ ̴̡̲̗͇͙̓͐͐y̶͚̬̯̹̰̞̫̆̃ǫ̸̢̝͚̫͈̮̰̟͖̰̗̖̖̥̉̈́̀̌̈́͂̐̆̐̈́̋͠͝ü̶̮͆̍̾̌̊́͝ȓ̸̢͔̺̗̭͍̟̜̀ ̴͕͉̥͎̹̀͐́͒̓̈́̀̌̋̀̒̋̚̕̕s̷̢͕̤̜̩̠̎̒͗̅̊͋̍͋͘o̵̧̼̗̓̄̋͒́̈́̋̚͝͝ȗ̵̦͔͈̮̫̭̤͉̬̘̖͈̮̮̇͑̎ͅl̸͎̝͉̾́” on the American version To “Heehee funny man” on the Japanese version
you know, the whole "ruin your life" thing notwithstanding, after I saw the comparison for the sonic 1 title screen misalignment, every time I see the title screen now, it looks like it's half a mile to the left.
The reason activating the hidden text reactivates the “Press Start Button” text is due to said start button text sharing the same files as the “Sonic Team Presents” text, and when the activated hidden text is shown, you won’t see the “Sonic Team Presents” text. 2:25 I believe the hanging Sonic sprites would be used for if he were to be grabbed by something. 1:05
For the credits secret in Sonic 1, it's there because someone on Sonic Team was mad at not getting individually credited for developing a part of the game. "Press Start" shows up there too due to the fact that the Sonic Team presents screen doesn't load in and the Press Start text shares ROM space with the Sonic Team presents screen.
17:23 This was fixed in the 2013 release, along with the missing "PRESS START BUTTON" message (Which was changed to "TOUCH TO START" due to being exclusive to mobile phones) EDIT: Just checked and the 100 point bonuses were also fixed.
Just finish the fucking sonic adventure 2 playthrough you started; literally every day I wonder, "when will cybershell bring meaning to my life again?"
When you realize you're all alone. When you realize room is dark around you. When you realize there is dead silence. When you realize room suddenly got cold. When you realize a chair just moved but nobody moved it. When you realize you hear footsteps. When you realize that there is definitely something behind you. You realize what's been haunting you all this time. You had forgotten to flush the toilet....
@Ties de Jong Dialect does not transfer over to typing. Stop replying to 2-year-old comments and get a life. And not to mention, there's just typo's in general. Lots of them. There's no commas or periods when there should be, I's are not capitalized, he forgot a "was" in-between I and little, etc.
Bloody_Sonic Exe I’m sure no one likes the US boss music. It just doesn’t fit in a Sonic game, especially in a bright one like CD or just one from the 90s.
Yeah and I might just be reaaally weird, but I sorta like how they inserted these little creepy things into an otherwise cheerful game, something that Nintendo would never do. Nintendo is mostly kid-friendly though, leaving exceptions for Metroid. Metroid was supposed to be a sci-fi horror. But Sonic was supposed to be cheerful, and here we are looking at creepy music, suicide, and a creepy photo
7:16 JP version: SonicCD.exe has been possessed by dance moves, Let's Party! U.S version: SonicCD.mp4 has stopped working. Task Manager has detected a message that reads, "Fun is infinite, with SEGA ENTERPRISES. Yours Truly, -Majin NOTE: Majin means "devil" but this is a reference to "Madin" who is a sega developer, and as said in the video, an Adult Swim commercial.
Nothing short of magical how everything went wrong during the transition to the US in such a way that this easter egg couldn't possibly be any creppier lmao
When I look at it, I see Sonic just wanting to just go fast through the thing and since you arn't doing it, you're just really terrible. Either go fast and do it or just don't play it and be the most terrible thing in Sonic's existence.
The “Fun Is Infinite” should’ve used both boss battle themes. Also, Sega confirmed Sonic Forces... Edit: I also agree about not only the boss music but the FINAL boss music in the US version... Edit 2: AND the game over music in both versions...
_"Hell, you might be a 13-year old watching this video who doesn't think this is remotely creepy in the slightest."_ Dude, you best not be spying on me, because that line depicted me _exactly._
Bluerious you assaholic bitch the word he was looking for was unease, dis- is an incorrect prefix. Learn English please before replying you goddamn Mexican
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAA ''HECKING'' ''ASSAHOLIC'' HABABABHABHAHBAHBABHABHABHABHBAHHVHAHBHABHHBHAB this is going on ifunny enjoy fatass
Cybershell 19:45: "ofcourse they decided hedgehog on human romance was not a good idea, and no future Sonic game would ever go on to include such an utterly ridiculous concept" Sonic 06 : *Cough*
I think some of these unused sprites were meant for the intro before they decided they wanted it 100% animated because I notice some of it is very similar to poses he does there, which might have hinted at either an sprite version of it or maybe they made it only animated to save on space/to show the cd’s potential off further.
I think the reason (for me) why the "Infinite Fun" screen is unsettling is because I never understood what the Japanese text meant... So I just left it up to my imagination to interpret what it meant, and trust me, those were some dark thoughts...
@@pinheadmarineii4615 The way it begins is very creepy to me. As it proceeds it gets less unsettling, pretty normal, but with this creepy ass picture on the screen it's terrifying the whole way through.
As a 2000s Kid, when I was 13 heck even now! That US Boss Still Gave me a Uneasy felt and Actually scared me... Thankfully I grown up listening to the Japanese Soundtrack before I listen to the US Released.
Oh the follow the clues thing was a weird ass social media scavenger hunt leading up to the reveal of mania and forces. It involved Big's big fishing adventure 3 and Madeon a lot who released an album called Adventure so it got a lot of people hyped up for adventure 3
