I'm glad there's at least one competitive Smash player who cares about the characters' portrayals as much as their functions as a fighter.

The sad thing is, even in his own games he deserves better.

In Smash 4 and Ultimate, Almost ALL of his voice lines are taken from generations which is why "Sonic Speed" and "Super Sonic Style" sound so awkward

To me, the biggest offense to Sonic in smash, is the removal of his iconic "you're too slow" line from Brawl... this combined with his ssb4 redesign to be closer to the one from colors, where his mouth is always put sideways in the most steriotypical cartoon manner, rather than being at least centered, actually made me dislike him in smash... I know it is details, but sometimes, details and first impressions are everything...

Next trailer: Galeem is beating back the fighters with Master Hands, emphasis is placed on Sonic. Missiles appear from behind the fighters and strike down a few Master Hands. Suddenly, we hear, "Ho ho ho ho ho! Long time no see, Sonic the Hedgehog!" as E.G.G.M.A.N. starts playing. Sonic, Mario, Shulk, Ganondorf, and Bowser look behind themselves and see the Egg-o-Matic on the cliffside. Sonic says, "Eggman!" as the mad doctor reveals himself with a chuckle.

Funnily enough I actually like Lost World, sure the game has flaws but once you get good at it I think it's a fun game especially when you get a handle of spindash and parkour, it has its flaws but I'd rather play Lost World over Sonic Forces

City Escape with a Truck hazard could've been nice. Or Angel Island, with a scenery change after a time interval. After a minute, the beach jungle is set ablaze, then the master emerald floats down in the background and the island is healed and raises into the sky. Then the Final interval is the Death Egg falling onto the island, dropping the stage back to the ground/water.

Yeah Sonic is really the sore thumb of Ultimate, a game that gets so much right that it makes the shortcomings even more noticeable. I mean just taking a few minutes to think about, there's so much more you could do with Sonic. Even basic things like maybe his victory screen is him opening up an animal capsule or something. Just little things that could go a long way.

Here's an interesting idea: what if we get another Sonic character and Sonic gets some of his animations revise? Cloud got a new final smash, but it was only a cosmetic change. The same for Sonic. His quills get new improvements, his expression changes when he taunts and idles and things. His side b could be replaced with a Boost BUT IT WOULD ACT THE EXACT SAME. He charges it up and instead of spinning he boosts. It would be an interesting revision considering I don't think anyone would miss his old side B animation considering it's also his down B.

The second Sonic movie is going to debut Tails so maybe they’ll put him in Smash to co-relate with that.

Part of me wishes Sonic was a Smash Ultimate DLC character, the internet would break and Sonic would actually have a good, gimmicky moveset and better represents in general. But then again, if Sonic wasn’t in Smash until now, I wouldn’t have gotten to experience over half of the amazing brawl mods I played.

As much as I want Shadow in Smash, I honestly think that the Werehog could actually be made into an interesting moveset. It would work perfectly if Sega ever ported Unleashed to the Switch ;)

Can we just talk about how much they did my boy Tails dirty? He gets absolutely no representation beyond a spirit. He's arguably Sonic's second-most important character, (Maybe third to Eggman,) yet Knuckles and Shadow each get assist trophies? Tails is effectively absent from this game, and that really sucks considering how important he is to Sonic's history.

They didn’t even bother giving sonic new lines. The voice clips for his taunts and winning animations are taken from sonic generations. I don’t understand why not only does sonic team and sega constantly drop the ball with sonic, to the point where it almost feels like it’s on purpose. The part that sucks is smash bros went ahead and dropped the ball with sonic just like sonic team did! What the hell man...

Among all the things people want for the Sonic frnachise in Smash; I want to see more variety in the music tracks. My hopes is that we get more level themes but more importantly, we get character theme songs.

Roger Craig Smith is actually growing on me for Sonic's voice. Despite how Forces was recived, he did at least master the voice acting for Sonic. Roger was at his best in Forces voice acting wise. Would have been nice getting new lines for Smash.

Sonic absolutely has to have more added. Not just a fighter imo, more music from different games would be nice as well. I think that Eggman would be the perfect choice, since he is an iconic villain and if Sephiroth can be added, I need my Robotnik in the game too. Also I'm a Jr main and I think he's really fun :( Edit: I've been thinking about this a lot: If Sakurai is so worried about "alienating" characters, why not just add Classic Sonic in smash 6 and give him Sonic's old moveset? I can see eggman’s reveal trailer. Sonic is running through the death egg and he beats up robs with eggman logos on them, then eggman busts through a wall with a rock remix of his boss theme from sonic 1, with the splash text saying, “Eggman scrambles the competition!” His final smash would be a badnik being shot forward and a cutscene with robots beating up the fighter caught, until they’re shot by the ARK

Lets just hope Nintendo is waiting for sonics 30th anniversary.

Sonic deserved more characters over Fire Emblem.

Sonic was actually really fairly represented in brawl, especially with the time they were given. He had a moveset taken from Sonic the fighters, Green Hill Zone was a no brainer stage for him, he had a great trophy collection, and he had Shadow as an assist trophy. Every character in brawl feels equal in terms of abilities and representation. (let's pretend Meta Knight doesn't exist.) It's almost as if Sonic lost his quality in Smash alongside losing his quality in his own games. Sincerely, a brawl lover.

What if Sonic & Tails were one fighter ala Ice Climbers? Except Tails auto flies back on stage if he dies, doesnt rack up percentage for sonic if he gets hit, can mess up your combos by attacking your opponent when you don't want him to, and constantly lives offscreen cause he couldn't keep up with the camera?

Alright, here me out, if in smash 6 they add Black Shadow from F-Zero, he has Ganondorf's moveset (his old moveset without the sword I guess, basically a Captain Falcon Echo) and then give Ganondorf a completely new moveset, that way that playstyle is still there, just on another character, and Ganondorf can get the treatment, representation, and moveset he deserves 👀

Brawl: Half of Sonic’s move sets are literally Spin Dash Smash 4: Only move that changed was his down smash and half of Sonic’s move sets are Spin Dash Ultimate: dash attack changed to a lunge kick, but still has half of his move sets as Spin Dash Moral of the story, Sakurai loves Spin Dash

Tails in smash > Shadow in Smash i'm sorry but......... I feel as if Tails would make a great character addition. Especially since there's a lot of duo partners in smash already. Sonic needs his buddy

Man, you were spitting mad facts in this video, as I feel the same way as you do. As someone here who is both a fan of Sonic and Smash Bros, I am honestly baffled that his representation has not improved since his debut in Brawl. I am going to explain why in each of these categories from this video and other changes that should happen to make him represent his franchise even more: Sonic's animations: Ever since Smash 4, Sonic looks so lifeless. He does not have the anger and boredom facial expressions he had in Brawl, and the later games have replaced every instance when he frowns with more positive expressions, which is not a bad thing in itself. For example, his idle poses are not terrible, but the expressions are just so dull. I would want him to grow impatient during his foot-tapping idle pose and grin during his finger-wiggle idle pose. A new idle pose that I would like for him to have is to look at his wrist, as that has been a common thing he tends to do in the Classic Sonic games. Changes like this would make him noticeably more expressive compared to some of the other characters. Sonic's moveset: I know that Sonic was a last-minute addition to Brawl, as the way the smash team made his move set has several of his moves being in a ball for most of his attacks is understandable for that game. But his rushed move set has remained unchanged for almost three games now, as I do not know why they did not bother changing most of his attacks to resemble his games. The biggest offend here is that he has two spin dashes for his side-and-down specials, both of which have near-identical functionality. As for his regular attacks and aerials, Sakurai took nine of his moves that originated from Sonic the fighters, such as his Jab, Tilts, Forward smash, Neutral, Forward, Down air attacks, and his Down throw. Some of his moves are from that game were incorporated well into his move set, but his other moves, such as his Up tilt, Neutral air, and Forward air, should have been changed a long time ago, as they do not feel like Sonic too much and do not have much utility compared to his other moves from his games. His Up tilt is a reskin of Captain Falcon's Up smash. I feel like if Sakurai had played Sonic Battle, He would have taken moves such as the Sonic Updraft, Sonic Flare, and the Sonic Eagle and made it his Up tilt, Down smash, and Forward air, respectively. His side special could be the Somersault from the Sonic Advance games, and his down special would be the Spin dash, but with the move functioning like it did in Sonic 2. Other moves such as the Light Speed Dash, Bounce Bracelet, Insta-Shield, Humming Top, and Drop Dash would be great additions to Sonic's move set if he were to get a move set overhaul in the next Smash game. Stages: As for stages, Green Hill is a stage that can stay, as it is the most iconic zone in the Sonic series. But Windy Hill is not exactly an iconic stage, as it is just Green Hill with a Mario Galaxy gimmick. Sonic has an enormous number of iconic zones from his series. Chemical Plant, Casino Night, The Death Egg, City Escape, and Rooftop Run are stages that should have been in Smash in the first place. Heck, I would rather have Kingdom Valley or any stage from Sonic 06 over Windy Hill. Newcomers: It is criminal why Sonic has not had another rep in Smash, considering how he is the longest-running third-party character in the Smash series. I mean, seriously, Sonic's is his franchise's only fighter, while everyone else from his games has stayed demoted to consolation prizes (stage cameos, Trophies, Assist Trophies, Mii Costumes, and Spirits). Therefore, I feel like Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Amy, Metal Sonic, and Dr. Egg man would be excellent choices for Smash. Tails would honestly be my choice for the next Sonic rep, as he is the Luigi of the Sonic universe. Alongside Luigi, he is the most iconic sidekick in gaming. Dr. Egg man would be another excellent choice for another Sonic rep as he is one of the most iconic video game villains in gaming alongside Bowser and Ganondorf. I could honestly take any Sonic character at this point as I would not mind if characters like Amy or Metal Sonic got in over the other four characters. My Conclusion: I typed this whole thing out because I felt like I needed to bring up some good points of my own, even though we should all agree on this verdict. First, sonic honestly does deserve better in Smash. Second, I will never stop reaching for the stars until Sonic gets another rep in Smash.

I 100% agree with you about Sonic’s Moveset. Although in brawl, his moveset kinda made sense. There is a theory that Sonic was the reason for brawl’s delay and even after getting more time, they where having problems animating new animations for Sonic, since the dead line was only a few months until brawl comes out. That is why some predicted that the reason Sonic’s moves in brawl were rather ripped from other characters or he was in a ball was because it was easier to animate. But for all his balls in smash games moving forward, I got nothing.

Tails should be fighter pass 9. I already know what his reveal would have. Chemical Plant Zone is the stage, Shadow and Amy are Mii Costumes and Sonic will have a new move set that is slightly changed. Side Special would be changed into Boost or Light Speed Dash and Forward Air will be changed into the Eagle Kick. Up Special would have a gimmick where he has a 55% chance where he will get a yellow spring that'll make him go half the height of his normal Up Special while he has a 45% chance to get a red spring that'll go the same height as his normal Up Special. Tails will also have the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 act clear theme for his victory theme. Eggman will also be an ok possibility.

Yeah Sakurai, The people who want Sonic's Moveset to be Changed are less important than the people want Sonic's moves to be the same, because everyone doesn't hate the fact that Sonic's Camps and if not the fact that Smash games take way longer when Sonic is on the battlefield, absolutely not. I hate this decision because Hardly anyone plays Sonic anyway because of how the Character is develop whether it be Casual or Competitive everyone can agree that Sonic needs an overhaul in his Moveset also if non-sonic fans are complaining about his moves that should be enough to change it. Wonderfully put together vid dude! As a competitive smash player myself it’s really frustrating that one of the most popular characters in video game history is given such a boring and uninspired move set. You can even tell that some of his moves are directly ripped from other brawl characters, such as up tilt being a reskin of Falcon’s Upsmash or back air being a reskin of Samus’ back air. Seriously hoping for some kind of re-work in Smash 6 :(
