The two Sonics have reached the Modern Era, and the first world to be explored is the nearly destroyed Crisis City. Classic Sonic is completely shocked by what he sees, and knows this is the fate of the world if Eggman is not stopped. Modern Sonic has it even worse, as he knows all of the worlds visited are places from his past but for some reason he can't remember this place at all. Despite his total lack of memory, this city still gives the heroic hedgehog the most bizarre sense of dread, as if something far more horrendous than the destruction of a city happened here...
