Sonic Movie Reaction | First Time Watching 

The reason people were originally put off by this movie was because of Sonic's original design in the first trailer, which is the stuff of nightmares. Luckily they listened to criticism and delayed the movie in order to fix it. Can't wait for the sequel reaction ;D

Growing up with Sonic made me scared when they said they were making a movie. They made me proud

I love how this movie was SO close on being a flop but was forced to do a redesign. And second movie was more in tune to the games. Can't wait for 3 that will come out on the Sonic Adventure 2 anniversary.

This movie and the second one and Sonic Frontiers made me like Sonic again.

This movie was so good. I remember watching it late at night and feeling like a kid again. Then I watched the second one on the theater and it was a great experience. Can't wait for number 3

aw im so glad you guys liked this movie! the sonic franchise has always been close to my heart and i was pleasantly surprised by how many little nods they did to the games and comics - especially in the sequel. no spoilers though! anyway, loved the video and the second movie’s a BLAST, can’t wait to see you guys watch it!

Honestly. This movie is just dumb fun. I love it. Jim Carrey as Doctor Eggman is the single dumbest yet brilliant casting decision ever. His dance in his truck is iconic 😂 Edit: The first trailer came out and the design was so bad that everyone hated it so much that Paramount pushed the release date back a while so they could redesign Sonic for the design they settled on in the movie.

This movie is what restored my faith that Video Game movies could be decent or even good. And the Sequel is even better!

This movie is everything I want in my films. Good, solid, fun, and Sonic is just so sweet and loveable, how can you not like him?

Glad to see you enjoyed it, if you wanted to delve into more things related to Sonic, I'd recommend the voice overs of the current comics published by IDW from Adrenaline Dubs, they take place in the game's universe (kind of) and are easy to get into for people new to the series, as well as being loved by nearly everyone who reads them. The quality starts a little low but gets better over time.

As a fan growing up on Sonic from the very first game all the way to Forces this movie was such a treat. It was very well done.

As someone who is not a Sonic fan, and barely touched the games, I loved this! Great humor, nice action, and it even has heart! And the sequel was good also, I thought they were gonna mess it up, but they didn't!

The first Sonic movie was enjoyable. The second Sonic movie was even better!

When I heard they were making it, I was worried. Then we saw the original Sonic design and... But after the redesign, I was a bit more hopeful. Bottom line: This movie was way better and funnier than I expected. Plus, they really showed off what super speed can do. Sonic literally was a one man baseball team.

Sonic was my childhood, and they did him justice in this movie and even more in the sequel. Without spoiling too much, there is a third movie on the way, and it could very well be the best video game movie ever made!

at the end you thought you heard about some controversy when the trailer came out, and its because the original design for Sonic was a nightmare, look it up if you want a laugh and possibly never sleep again. To the studios credit, they heard the concerns and changed the model to look more like classic Sonic and I think they nailed it, great movie.

The reason this movie had a backlash pre-release lays in fact and your guesses were unfortunately dead wrong. The design of Sonic was what people were angry about, they halted the movie and redesigned Sonic throughout the entire movie. I'm surprised no-one on your Patreon told you this.

SEGA has quite an interesting history. Started out as Standard Games in the US making slot machines, which was made to make entertainment systems for US military bases during WW2. After the war Standard Games was sold in the 50's after slot machines were outlawed in US governmental territories. From this Martin Bromley who was behind in forming Standard Games formed a new company, SErvice GAmes and sent employees to Tokyo to form the Service Games of Japan. The rest is pretty much as they say history. While SEGA did end up losing the console war, they've been killing it lately on software side and now movies too. My 2 personal favorite SEGA franchises has to be Valkyria Chronicles and Two Point Hospital (Essentially sequel to the iconic Theme Hospital game).

This movie had some negative opinions before it released, but it blew a lot of minds when it did release. Hell of a movie, sequel even better 🙏

The backlash or negativity that you were referring to was from the initial trailer - in the initial trailer when they revealed Sonic he looked rather different (more..."human" like complete with human teeth) the internet blew up (and rightfully so cause the model was nightmare fuel), they then announced that they would delay the movie and redid his model to what we see now. Now....this was either a case of hollywood actually listening to feedback or a very elaborate PR stunt (which worked tbh) Either way - glad you enjoyed the movie, it was fun, definitely recommend Sonic 2 :D

Sega are developing other movies based on their games. The writer/director of the John Wick series is going to adapt Streets Of Rage into a film.

ABOUT TIME YOU SAW THIS!!!

This was one of those very rare video game to movie attempts that actually turned out to be great. Most movies they attempt to make from video games turn out to be complete trash. When the movie first was announced the biggest complaint was Sonic looked nothing like the video game character. Thankfully the creators listened and remade him to what you see in the movie and looks just like the character everyone loved from the video games.

Fun fact, the producers put in Sanic (the incredibly shitty drawing of Sonic that became a legendary meme) into the background of one of the scenes. Figured I should let y’all know lol

This movie was great, but part 2 is even BETTER. I have high hopes for 3.

The original trailer had Sonic looking like a really bad humanoid Sonic taxidermy and the collective Internet hated it so much, they were forced to redo every shot with Sonic in it with a more game-accurate design.

I would love to keep seeing more movie reactions, can't wait for Sonic 2 reaction, and possibly the Mario Movie in the future.

SO MUCH SO that Paramount ACTUALLY DELAYED THE FILM and brought Sega designers in for a COMPLETE RE-DESIGN of the character (They released the EXACT same trailer after a few months with the new design and reception for the film did a full 180) Seriously. Look up "Ugly Sonic".

Hope this video preforms well. The movies might not be the best representation of Sonic but its really close. It would be great for you guys to see the second movie which is normally considered to be the better one.

I want to suggest that after the reaction to the Sonic 2 movie, make a reaction to ALL trailers or openings of Sonic games (especially the Sonic Unleashed and Sonic CD intros)

The trailer of this movie the first one at least looked horrible. Sonic didn't look cute. He looked like a dead rat. It angered the whole internet and they complained. And then something happened. Something magical whimsical and beautiful. The people in charge of making the movie listened. they said "Okay sorry we will fix it." And they did fix it. That is so refreshing in modern cinema development. I'm so glad the movie Sonic didn't look like he had stopped running and become a drug addict for 30 years. Sonic is a part of my childhood. Without that fantasy character and the fandom around him I would not be the same person I am today. This is on a list of my favorite movies ever made.

This movie did what plenty of movies have tried and failed to do: make a good video game movie. The second movie is even better.

The negative talk around this movie was mostly around the first trailer. Sonic’s original design for this movie was so unimaginably ugly that the Internet got together a bullied the studio until they changed the design to what it is now.

When the original trailer dropped the CGI rendition of Sonic was... disturbing. People immediately took to mocking the design for its uncanny features and lambasted Paramount before the movie had even been released. On top of the roasting, a lot of fans were genuinely upset at the studio's rendition of the character feeling that it was an insult to the franchise. Paramount went into full damage control and delayed the release date of the film, going back to redo the cgi for the character's design. Thankfully since the entire film had not been rendered with the design released in the trailer yet, the turnaround time and cost was nowhere near as catastrophic as it might have been. Still, the fact that Paramount listened to the fans and took the criticism to heart earned the respect of many moviegoers (including myself) who went to see the film even if they'd perhaps not intended to otherwise. The film has a lot of references and subtle nods to the games, cartoons, comics, and general culture surrounding the Sonic franchise as a whole, and that in part on top of the respect for the fans, and a decent plot is what makes for this rarity of a successful video game movie. Perhaps it was the commercial success of the Sonic films that even inspired Nintendo to finally loosen up and give its beloved plumbers another shot at the big screen.

Very underrated movie, the second one is a bit of a let down but still an okay kids movie. Glad you guys watched Vox Machina, that's how I found you...

Nice to see ya'll reacting to movies and this was a great reaction. The first Sonic movie was good, a nice introduction to what's to come from the movieverse for the blue blur. Since this was an intro to the series, it's a bit slow to get into but the second movie makes up for it. Ben Schwartz as Sonic and Jim Carrey as Eggman works so well. Glad we finally got a true definitive Sonic movie and can't wait for number 3 when it comes out

When they released the first trailer for this movie, the CGI for Sonic was terrible. He looked kinda disturbing. Thats where all the negative feedback first came from, but all the backlash seemingly made them change how he looked, to be more accurate to his design. This movie turned out amazing, a good video game movie is rare but they pulled it off with this one along with its sequel.

If you want a total whiplash, check out the first trailer (that they took down from the official channel) and see why EVERYONE thought this was going to bomb, from Sonic's god awful original movie design to absolutely random choice in music.

The backlash towards the first trailer was about Sonic’s design. He looked REALLY bad. So they redesigned him and postponed the movie a few months to make him look way more appealing and at least this way he’s 95% accurate to his actual design. There are still changes. But he had human shaped eyes and teeth before and looked like a monkey with spiked hair and human shapes thighs and calves which was creepy in the original movie design. I’m sure you got that comment already but I couldn’t help myself.

I suspect what you heard was about the design of Sonic originally they tried to make him look more like a human boy and he looked awful. They spent money to reanimate him with the look we got and fans praised them.

The big controversy about the trailer was that, originally, they tried to make Sonic more.... "realistic". An absolute traumatizing abomination off a design. Luckily for us, the outrage about that "thing" was big enough for the studio to paddle back and redesign Sonic into what we saw in this movie.
