Sonic Prime or Sonic X? Which is Better? 

I personally prefer Sonic Prime, but Sonic X will always hold a place in my heart as one of the many Sonic shows I grew up with.

I personally think that Sonic X hold the crown for now. I think we need to wait for more episodes from Prime to get a more definitive answer.

sonic x has definitely got to be my fave. the characterisation is the most important part of a sonic series for me because i love the characters so much, and the way prime really messes up their personalities bothers me so much, especially sonic. they took away rouge and amy's unique personalities and they're kind of just your stereotypical 'girl character' in prime. i do agree tho, the way the characters look is AMAZING, i love that they look like the game models!!

Sonic X for me. Because I want them to make another Sonic Anime, made by the Japanese for all eastern, western & african audiences.

I’ve grown up with Sonic X and would still watch it to this day, and I agree that the characterization and moments was good. Prime is great with its animation and fighting sequence and how it will expand in-later seasons. Overall I liked your video about the two and how with both elements of the shows we could have a great sonic series.

Sonic X. Watched the whole show when I was young, and still remember it.

I rather choose both but I have to stick with the Japanese voice cast of both shows cuz they're my favourite especially Junichi Kanemaru’s voice of Sonic! 💙🥰 He always nails his lovely voice of the blue blur! Including speaking Engrish!

Sonic X is definitely superior. The tone is darker, similar to the Adventure games and the characterisation is probably the most accurate out of any other Sonic media. Stuff like Cosmo's death, Molly's death, how they adapted Maria's death was pretty crazy and emotional too. While the animation did lack at times, I think it does have better fight choreography than Sonic prime(despite prime having better animation). In prime, all you see is a bunch of spindashes, hits lack impact, and robots just fall into pieces(they barely explode). (And I'm talking about the og Japanese version.)

I personally cant decide yet, but as of now I have to say none is better overall, one is better in certain areas while the other isn't.

Sonic X is the best sonic-based TV show in my opinion. It was how I got introduced into the franchise, so I may be a bit biased! 😅 The story is well written, the voice acting is amazing, and Cosmo's character arc was one of the best things from this show! I still think that Prime has its pros as well, but Sonic X will always remain as my #1 favorite! 🩵 ( I understand where you're coming from with Sonic X in terms of characterization, and this was a great video Sonicsta)

Thing here is no matter what other new Sonic show comes out. Sonic X will always be my main favorite. Sonic Adventure DX actually began my major obsession for Sonic when I was ten. I discovered Sonic X a month later which coincidentally came out the same month my obsession started in August. I typed three novels that are over a thousand pages over that show with my own imagination. I love the franchise and show that much! So it’s nice to see it get number one in this video even though I do understand it’s flaws. Chris is my second favorite Sonic character and I hugely adore his friendship more so than I actually love Sonic’s friendship with Tails. It’s because it’s very awesome to me to see Sonic be actual best friends with an ordinary human boy and not just only anthropomorphic animals just like him. I admit it hugely annoys me that Chris takes away the spotlight from Sonic and his friends but I still love him and the humans nonetheless. It’s so nice to see once more that Sonicsta loves and actually understands Chris like I do! EEP!🤩 Sonic Prime is my second favorite Sonic show. Fun fact, the second part to it is actually coming out literally three days before my actual 30th birthday which is July 16th! EEP!🤩 I cannot wait for it! EEP!🤩 Yet I’ll binge watch the first parts again since I literally haven’t watched it since the day that it first aired! Lol😂😅 EEP!🤩

it's a difficult question, in my opinion both shows are good and each one has its successes and mistakes which could leave them tied in general and one side would take victory in a certain topic, I even think it's unfair to compare an old animation with a current one since the difference is big but Sonic Prime manages to have a beautiful look, easy to recognize and very much like the franchise and with small details that make the difference when you look deeper, like the textures in the fur and gloves or a detail in the lines of the sole of Sonic's sneakers, for example not to mention the animation is fluid and has great action scenes while Sonic X has characterization and dialogue more faithful to what characters are in games, particularly at the time the show was made, in terms of the story itself I think it's something personal because both are good but the focus is a little different, while X kind of shows Sonic and company's day to day in a new world as they face Eggman again and again Sonic Prime focuses on Sonic and the idea of ​​showing an evolution in his personality so he starts off all goofy and irresponsible and gets better as the series progresses, i agree that sometimes they exaggerate a bit but i hope that in the next waves of episodes this will be adjusted and focus on the more serious part of the story, the show is good and has potential and they can do better but I think overall that would be about both shows

Easily sonic x

Sonic X, especially the metarex saga, is to this day the best sonic story ever told. Sadly because of the direction Sonic took those past decades, it's nearly impossible we get something that would, at the minimum, equal that level of greatness. At least the animation and action sequences are good, but I'll always feel the bittersweetness of the wasted potential of Sonic when watching Sonic Prime. It's warm, but also a little sad. Let's hope in a few years the state of the franchise will evolve enough for us to get back to those golden times.

Sonic X was the foundation for me too! How I became a Sonic fan. I practically watched Sonic X before I had a console to play any of the games on. I can understand about the action sequences from Sonic X. I guess you can't expect that kind of animation from a Japanese 2000s show (I've watched 2000s anime, and I love them). I was thoroughly impressed and excited about the action sequences in Sonic Prime. To me, characterization is the most important to me. Doesn't matter what show/movie it is. Dynamics are important to me as well. So, when I saw that Rouge and Knuckles don't banter as much in Sonic Prime, I got kinda disappointed. But overall, I'd have say Sonic X will always be my favorite because it was my childhood. If it wasn't, these two would be on equal plains. Because, like you said, they both have things that every Sonic fan wants.

For me, I like both Sonic X and Sonic Prime. These both sonic shows are amazing with the story, and the dialogue that was epic to those two series.

Sonic X wins and never missed. Sonic Prime turned Sonic's character into an austistic dorky high schooler.

They should make another Sonic Anime where they display Sonic, Knuckles, Metal, Shadow & Silver's PowerScaling with an epic arc/saga. They should also show IQ Universal Thinking dual between Tails, Eggman, Sage & a new Kitsune character showing their battle of wits. And we should also be introduced to this new threat other than Eggman in this new Sonic Anime with an interesting Story arc. This Anime should have mild-swearing too.

For me it's Sonic X, hands down! Why?: because they know how to develop a person's character and it retains the Shonen DNA. Sonic Prime just follows typical western saturday cartoon cliques which is highly annoying for me. Also there's another thing that annoys me about "Western/American Sonic", I've noticed that the westerns portrays sonic as a little b**** who is "scared of water." Whereas the Eastern/Japanese Sonic still can't swim but he ISN'T Afraid of Water! Just because Sonic CAN'T Swim doesn't necessarily mean that he is scared of water because when pull comes to shove, he's willing to jump in water for the greater good which takes very strong amount of willpower! But this is something westerners will NEVER understand from Sonic, so they make Sonic out to be a little baby.

My biggest issue with prime is that Sonic’s friends aren’t really in the show it’s all about alternate versions of them….so we don’t get another fun series with the gang….

Honestly, I think I prefer Prime, because of the awesome CGI, superior voice acting, comedy, INCREDIBLE action, and creativity. It has some flaws, but so did X, in my opinion. Although, Sonic X is great, too. It’s in my top 3 Sonic shows.

For me Sonic x and Sonic prime are both great (Although i watched only a few episodes) but sonic x was my childhood and even today i still remembe the theme song "Gotta go fast" and no one will ever forget the funniest and most iconic scenes not to mention sonic had a cool and mostly chill & active personality

I think one of the main issues I have with Prime is Sonic's characterization. This show is supposed to be canon but Sonic tends to act move goofy and a bit immature compared to how he is portrayed in Frontiers.

Sonic X all the way. Sonic ain't a pushover like he is in Sonic Prime. The episode where sonic was getting hammered in by Amy was just pathetic and annoying. But hey, there are annoying simps and sTrOnG iNdEpeNDEnt WAmAn out there who are going to defend that cringefest. I do not give a TOSS if Amy is one of Sonic's best friends or Girlfriend, if Amy from another dimention is hitting Sonic, Sonic should FIGHT BACK!!! Finally, someone who has the same opinion as me! Yes, Amy can be recognized as a force to be reckoned with, but her obsession towards Sonic has always been a core part of her character and very funny to me. I was very upset when that part of her started disappearing. It's as if that to make her likeable to the fans, they have to get rid of what makes Amy, Amy. Amy at her core and base was made to be a love interest for Sonic, somebody who loves him. I don't have a problem with you adding other personality traits to her as long as you don't vanish that part of her. (I already wrote a similar comment but I can't seem to find it, maybe it failed to send or maybe it just isn't on my phone so I'm sorry if you read this twice) 😅

Honestly I was also disappointed when I found out prime was gonna be 3D…I was hoping for another 2D sonic series. To be fair I just prefer 2D animated series over 3D period.

Sonic X

Sonic X in Japanese is his most accurate portrayal. Sonic Prime is a fun show but its more a promo for the IP while Sonic X was basically a full series on its own about that interpretation of Sonic with a extra season after as well. It was also to promote the overal IP but they were more on the 'shönen' type of writing while Prime is more so a action cartoon. The movies are basically more like Sonic X. Sonic Prime is more like Pokémon series, its meant to serve as a promo.

For me its sonic X, It basically remade Sa2 ( sonic adventure 2 ) into a show. i grew up with it aswell.

Sonic Prime has the better fight scenes but Sonic X has the better character moments, art style, and overall better story, especially the Metarex Saga.

I pick Sonic Prime cause I like how Sonic got his first time going to high-speed universe-shattering adventures when he focused to get the rainbow-colored alternate-reality chaos emerald back together in order to save his friends then go home with his friends at Green Hills after he recklessly broke the emerald in the accidental way. So, I give Sonic Prime a 1M out of 1M cause I positively think that Sonic Prime is the best Sonic The Hedgehog's TV-Series that Sonic Fans ever watch with their whole entire positive lives.

I enjoyed the remaking of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 in Sonic X , Sonic Prime has potential with future series including the second as I would like to know if Rusty was once the pirate version of Amy as Rusty seemed shocked but also that she recognized a possible past version of herself ! Probably isn't but would be a good twist if it is !

It’s not apples and oranges, it’s apples and cactus juice (It’s the quenchiest!). One is an anime with more episodes in its first season alone than all of Sonic Prime, a western Netflix series, thus far. Also, at the time of this comment, Prime is still incomplete. So it’s hard to judge it on story. That being said, I’m glad you made this video and it was cool to hear your perspectives on both shows.

I prefer Sonic X because it is literally Sonic being Sonic with a good chunk of the supporting cast and even some game plots and whatnot, while Sonic Prime is just mediocre fan fiction with Movie Sonic as reference for Sonic in the series, which just like, nooo...

Honestly, I like Prime better. I think it might have cooler Super Sonic fights. Or maybe, a Hyper Sonic? I still like Sonic X, but most of the X characters get on my nerves... To be even more specific, Chris... Plus, this video pretty much proves that Sonic Prime is better. As far as characteration goes, I like how Amy is a bit more chill in Prime.

I prefer sonic x while colors was my introduction to sonic i consider sonic x my true introduction to series since it introduce me to alot of the series elements such as its extended cast, the adventure games storylines, and the chaos emeralds.

lets be honest, only reason you all find chris and the other characters uninteresting is the 4kids butchered dub. japanese version uncut has cut backstory for chris that makes him more interesting, and has a cut character arc for amy, and even has death and emotional moments, all of which were cut in 4kids version. like did you know molly from the metarex saga actually died in the japanese version and shadow was visiting her grave? or how about tails crying telling cosmo he loved her before shooting her? or how about maria actually being shown getting shot? and thats only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to changes the dub made and stuff it cut, theres way more than just that. I'm sorry but sonic x is the better show. and arguing about the fight animations back in the early 2000s to say its a worse show isn't a good argument. I'm sorry but it really isn't. just because something has newer animation doesn't make it better. yu yu hakusho is still one of the best animes and its an older anime with older animation. same with the original dbz.

In the interest of fairness I think right now I would just based only on season 1 of each show (since that is all that is available of Prime), and in that case I would say Sonic Prime wins by a mile. Sonic X season 1 is definitely the weakest of the 3 and I find it quite boring for most of the run time (This is probably my biggest issue with the show in general, but it's most prevalent in season 1)

The one flaw imo in Sonic prime's fights is that the robots just fall apart. They don't explode or show actual physical damage ever, the animators just said "disconnect all the parts and give them each a trajectory through the air"

Sonic Prime. The only reason I see people love Sonic X is nostalgia reason, I BARELY see anyone talk about it WITHOUT bringing up "it was their childhood."

4Kids screwed up the ending of SonicX. The true ending was so emotional and really tied in Sonic Adventure 2. If you haven't seen the original Japanese version please watch it!

I think the reason why sonic prime sonic doesn’t have good characterization is because they wanted to have sonic have more character development as the series goes on. Something different than sonic already having the personality that game sonic has.

With only 8 episodes of Prime, I think it's a bit too soon to say, however the first 8 episodes are definitely better the first 8 of Sonic X so far.

Yeah, I get it, I know Amy used to be comedic, but at the same time, I’ll die before we get round 2 of that characterization. I’m saying this for your own good. Humorous, yes, but at the same time, It’s created a very dangerous narrative about Amy that her fans have to deal with, it’s brought nothing but harm to both sides. It legitimately concerned people, especially in certain instances. And more devout Amy fans have to deal with being the butt of the joke. It not only ruined Amy’s perception, but Sonic had to be turned into a jerk just to make that work. You’re right, her love of Sonic shouldn’t necessarily go away, it’ll still be there, but there must be a less intrusive way to display it. In Sonic X and multiple games, it was pushed to an extreme, that people believe that was all there was to Amy, and they don’t have the patience to fully understand her character like a veteran fan would. Remember, the kids that played Heroes and those dark age games were children, so they don’t have the same reasoning we do. Some consider her dangerous, too. And then, people like you get all upset when people claim “Amy is a stalker, or fangirl” or “Mischaracterise her” and creates senseless online debating, when, there isn’t any other word for it. You think that characterization was unique? There’s Pucca, there’s Tootie from Fairly OddParents, Kitten from Teen Titans 2003, Cindy Bear from Yogi Bear, Panini from Chowder, Peanuts’ humor is practically based on this trope, I could go on, it was all over the place in the 2000s, and a lot of that type of humor didn’t age well. Kind of sexist, too. There’s a reason the Tiny Toons hated Elmyra Duff. Also, I’ve seen this fandom create wars over her character. Remember how nobody believed that Amy was the “ghost girl” in Frontiers? Some of you fans called others stupid for not understanding how Asian romance dynamics work. There’s a reason Amy became an easy target of hate in the fan community, and why people finally came around in the 2010s. I know you like it, but to this day, people still believe Sonic hates Amy and wants her dead. And it feels like all of you want to cycle through the same bad narratives all over again.

for me Sonic X will always be the best show because it holds a special place in my heart. Its not only that I have grown up with it but I like the story, which had way more potential, I like the soundtrack which brings back memories of my childhood, I like the character dynamics, its one of rare things that can still bring out pure emotions out of me and I simply enjoy Sonic X style of a show than modern 3d animated ones

Sonic X or Sonic Prime? I definitively choose Sonic X as the best show than Sonic Prime. No gonna lies and I gonna be straight in my words but I feel like Sonic Prime is just the new season of Sonic Boom due to too much similar common point to Sonic Boom. By start that the main characters in Boom was Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Sticks and Eggman while Prime characters are same but Sticks have been replaced by Rouge with her own personnality and Big is the one who replace Vector with his own personnality while Eggman get several clones of himself without forget in Boom characters can wear somes others clothes for loose their serious side for somes episode like Amy disguise as a clown or Sonic who wear half of clothes by wear a vest but refuse to put a pant just like Prime show where Sonic see his others friends with Pirate or Cyborg disguise unlike Sonic X who was with a lot of characters than be stuck with very few characters like in Boom and Prime. Plus few episode about Sonic Boom include the travels into the multiverse like the one in the Season 2 where Sonic was send into a dimension where there wasn't any Sonic but there was his friends with another personnality with Tails who working for Eggman and Sonic try to reasoned Tails or the last episode of the Season 2 of Sonic Boom where Shadow kidnapp Eggman from the alternate dimension for bring two Eggman in same place for destroy the Sonic world. So I can't really say that I feel any hype or joy about the show since it's just a Sonic Boom Season 3 show but with another producer instead be a new show who add more Modern Sonic characters just like the good old Sonic X show who was amazing with a good story and who wasn't into somes silly multivers stuff so it's sad that Sonic Prime have waste his potential when he could have been as same level like Sonic X and become one of the best Sonic show but end up to be disappointing by be a Sonic Boom-like show feeling. Gonna be that guy. Shouldn't be comparing a tv show with 1/3 of its first season to a completed tv show with 3 seasons. Otherwise, we can compare anything, like TLOU HBO so far vs TWD S1-S4 (or hell, all 13 seasons).

Honestly I think Sonic Prime takes the win because the action is what makes the tv shows exciting to watch and I like the animation but the story and characterization could improve based on sonic x characterization and story. X and prime stay close to the games and both shows take sonic out his home but I will have to go with prime because it has a lot of focus on sonic and I like how he’s portrayed. x on the other hand didn’t pay much attention to sonic he feels like a character that’s off to the side until trouble shows up in fact Chris steals the show from him

Sonic Prime is Good but Sonic X is COOOL

I only recently became a “real” sonic fan. As a kid I liked sonic and knew the characters and games but I never really cared about them that much. I only really got into sonic when I watched Sonic 2 (and Sonic 1 for that matter) for the first time last year. I watched Sonic X for the first time a little under a year ago (also I didn’t watch season 3 because it wasn’t on Netflix and I just didn’t feel like watching it because the show had basically wrapped everything up) and while the characters were fun (minus the human characters they were really boring and I Chris’ writing is just bad) it was so BORING besides from the episodes that were adapting a game it was just filler, filler, filler. I’m not saying a Sonic show can’t be episodic, Sonic Boom is my favorite sonic show and it’s a masterpiece of comedy in its own right, I’m just saying when a show is supposed to be based around a plot it’s not that fun having to sit through episode after episode that’s just nothing important happening. Also the episodes that DO adapt a game don’t really change enough to make me really interested in the story. Idk the characters were pretty good and the writing (minus some exceptions) was pretty solid throughout the show so I still like it. Sonic prime is a good show but it has its issues just like Sonic x did. The action is great and is a huge step up from boom and X but there’s way too much action to take it all in if you’re watching all the episodes back to back (like I did when I watched it the first time) I think the characterization was good but it wasn’t what a lot of people were used to so I understand why some people don’t like it but I thought it was fine. I think sonic prime is better but sonic x is still a decently solid show.

Sonic Prime, it's not even a contest. Prime isn't perfect by any means but its already better than all of the other Sonic animated series solely in terms of the action sequences, fight choreography and animation.

Sonic X's story is really great, though prime definitely has better action/animation, anyway both are amazing.

To be brutally honest, Sonic Prime's writing has been kinda meh to me. But it might be because we've only seen 1/3 of the series. It might blow me away when it's fully done. But for now, Sonic X is superior to Prime in almost every way expect for the animation

Let me dedicate this comment to Helen, my favorite human in a Sonic Show. She not only is a cute and lively girl, she also is a beacon of positivity and I admire her for that, she shows that no matter how big a problem or condition you have, you can overcome it, and despite she wasn't a lot in the spotlight, she left a mark in the series that I still remember to this day.

Sonic Prime hasn't fully aired so it's hard to judge. Sonic X I grew up with so X. But I love both.

Personally? I prefer Prime. I love X Sonic's personality, and some of the stories were great (specifically the Meterex saga) but the characterization feels so lackluster sometimes, especially with Sonic himself. I like Prime Sonic bc he's allowed to make mistakes, meaning he can actually develop and isn't just the series deus ex machina like he was in X lol

Honestly, after thinking to myself a little bit, in my opinion, it's a draw between them. Sonic X has the better characterization and a captivating story while Prime has better action scenes and animation. I feel like Prime could be the best Sonic show, but it's not out yet, and we have the entirety of X to watch at our disposal, so is this really a fair judgment? I feel like we can get ahead of ourselves at times and criticize what we have instead of waiting until the whole thing is out for us to watch. That being said, I'm not innocent in this regard as I found myself criticizing this show at times, so do with that what you will. I used to think Prime was the better show, but after looking what X has to offer, I'm willing to change my opinion, probably for the better. I think liking both equally is better than preferring one over the other.
