Sonic Team's Head Wants a New Sonic RPG! 

Right??? This was a fantastic interview, the questions led to some genuine contemplation and insight, and it honestly seemed like he was having a good time with the conversation. Even the questions about the game were basic enough to not feel prying while still giving some well needed info for fans that just want to know what to expect with the package overall. Just really great work all around, this was clearly an exciting opportunity and he really used it to its fullest

@@atre5763 for sure, its not like atlus makes some of the best turn based RPGs for a long while and RGG also proved to be able to make an amazing turn based RPG game like infinite wealth

Im not impressed, SA2 was the beginning of the downfall of the series from a graphical, physics and gameplay standpoint. SA2 showed Chaos Control, to me Izuka is self absorbed

He's obviously talking about it from a Gameplay standpoint.he was the director for SA2, I doubt he's forgotten that Sonic uses it in cutscenes. Far as I'm aware, the only time Sonic has used Chaos Control in Gameplay is during the battle against Shadow at SA2's climax, if you're playing as Shadow.

@@HolyHadou Mm, I thought he might've used it during Multiplayer, but I wasn't 100% sure, there's also the possibility that the translation missed a bit of what Iizuka said. Also definitely a chance that he misspoke. It happens to everyone.

It may be safe to assume that Sega doesn't see Panders as a threat anymore, especially since they don't want anything to do with Archie's Sonic in any form.

To be fair, Ken didn't really do a lot to the series. Nothing major, anyway.

@@cookietoonam116 I'm sure they are bothered by Penders in some shape or form, mostly because of the technicalities of what he owns. For example one of his copyrights is literally named "Evil Sonic" (which was the identity Scourge went by before he actually had a name) and notice how Sega, ever since the Archie fallout, has never allowed another version of Sonic to exist in any of the new media (Boom had an episode of alternate realities, no alternate Sonic. Sonic Prime is all about alternate realities, no alternate Sonic. No alternate Sonic in IDW either) I'm sure he's not a threat but more of a "shit that's right. the Penders thing" annoyance every time they have to do something

Bioware had a cool concept and the sequel would have been better. They got screwed by Penders.

@@newdawnhorizon9879 Eh, Chronicles isn't trash moreso as it is weighted down by the DS' gimmicks. If it were to be remade with proper controls, reduce the amount of mashing for certain attacks, maybe rework the soundtrack if possible and polish up the combat a bit, it'd be a pretty good rpg imo. All of the structure is there for a great game. It just needs to escape the DS.

@@MacUser2-il2cxI saw that DYKG video on it and from the way they described it, a Chronicles 2 would’ve seemed to have the same plot and story as Forces with Eggman actually taking over the world. Who knows if Chronicles 2 would’ve been better than the Forces we got in this timeline.

I’m thinking of making a Sonic RPG like that myself with the IDW characters appearing it as both Playable and Non-playable characters as you interact with the world and story. The gameplay is inspired by Paper Mario’s Action Command Turn-Based system using the commands like Sonic games to perform their moves. If only I got off my lazy butt to learn and make it with Godot.

That game is fascinating... bad, but fascinating. I played through it while on vacation one year. Just not a good game. I was hyped when it was announced; Sonic as an RPG is a fun concept!

@@penguinreloaded7756Sega’s mentality is that if journalists despise a certain game then that gameplay style is abandoned. It is why the Adventure style games are discontinued

@@johnshea7871Sega shouldn’t always take journalist opinion to the heart especially if they aren’t true Sonic fans or care about him, that’s what I feel holds the series back sometimes

@@brandonwilliams6119 The majority of journalists when it comes to Somic the Hedgehog are biased towards the Genesis games as well as the Advance trilogy Rush Mania and to a lesser extent Rush Adventure which means they prefer Sonic’s 2D games

Well Sonic Chronicles basically got shafted by BioWare, so that was hardly Sega’s fault for not knowing BioWare was gonna care so little.

Giving how the Sonic series is usually about speed I think a hack and slash rpg would fit sonic pretty well

To be fair, Sonic Chronicles had everything set against it that there was no way it was going to end up good. Its more an unfortunate game that could have ended up something really cool but it really never even had a fair chance.

Yeah and all those other genres sonic did were failures. How would this be any different?

Why not just do a new story that just has the IDW characters?

@@harrisoncora4259 I doubt a standalone Tangle and Whisper game or Surge game would sell as well as say, doing a game that adapts the the Battle for Angel Island or Metal Virus stories in an RPG format. I feel it would make more logical to adapt those stories first, then include those characters in a mainline game to win over casual fans to then possibly do spinoff games with just the IDW characters.

@@Butwhythough881 if it features the main Sonic cast, I think it’ll sell fine. Besides, anyone who wants to see those stories can just pick up the graphic novels. And if not that, then anyone can simply look at a breakdown of the IDW storylines for context. But I really think a new RPG would be stronger if it has a new story.

To be fair, Shadow was supposed to die in that game, so Sonic would probably become a chaos control user in future games, kind of like if it was a Shadow's memento But since they brought him back in heroes due to popular demand, they returned it to be a Shadow exclusive skill

Why not like Super Mario RPG from snes? It looked fun and could took advantage of the huge roster of playable characters.

Sonic deserves another RPG title after the first game in 2008.

in retrospective a lot of elements of blaze are just seem to be forgotten by sega, like they somehow remember 06 Blaze more (which essentially feels like a bastardarizised version of her) then rush Blaze such as actually being a sonic rival and having her friendship with Cream witch over the years has slowly been forgotten in favor of silver and blaze being friends BECAUSE of 06 when they re-introduced silver. I always look back as Blaze's rivalry with sonic is just more interesting then Silver's, his innocent behaviour in the more recent stuff makes him feel like a support character not a direct face-off rival against him like Blaze,Knuckles and Shadow that's not a knock on silver by any means it's just he seems to be better written that way and IDW seem to be aware of this
