I miss Jim...he played in SF at the Paradise Lounge every Thursday with the 10 gallon cats, pedal steel bass drums and Jim. Usually closed with somewhere over the rainbow...man I miss those San Francisco nights
I'm blown away by Jim's talent. I've discovered him not too long ago. Take a listen to his 55 Bar show in NYC. He is amazing as is the entire band. Another plus is his hilarious sense of humor.....subtle but I find myself cracking up! Just his comment in this clip reagarding chicken picking and when he says: "I never actually heard a chicken"...this was friggin' hilarious. This guy knows how to make amazing music. I'm a huge fan now. Man, that Tele of his is awesome! I want one hahaha!
I like this a lot. Nice simple tip and excessive. Perfect for someone like me. Not as easy as it looks, to play it cleanly, but not too difficult to get the hang of.
Hi Jim, this is Jamie from Music Mans Ladies Band. WOW you are amazing! Love the techniques you've shared. Being as green as I am in the guitar world, I love to learn anything new in regards to playing the guitar. I just want to be the best me I can. Your lessons are a great addition to my weekly lessons with Steve.
Only just heard this man play for the first time recently (to my great shame) and I must say his superb playing, coupled with the endearing and illustrative way he puts over the actual nuts and bolts of how he does what he does, makes him my main way to try play better guitar. One thing I can't quite make out from the video is whether or not he grows nails on the 2nd/3rd fingers or he simply uses the pads? If anyone can enlighten me I would be grateful.
I actually went to one of his gigs once and asked to see his right hand nails between sets. He smiled and held his right hand up. The nails were quite short - I was surprised.
This is really cool. I'll give it a shot but I'm honestly not sure how he progressed from the basic exercise to the more advanced picking he shows later :-)
