Overview
As the name say's itself, the fan game here tries to re-imagine the original game, Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1.
In the demo update showcase, you'll see tons of upgrades towards not only the art-style, but also character design, gimmicks/moveset, and especially soundtracks.

Was glad to hear that there was a new demo update released just yesterday. From last year summer I was thinking that hopefully something would release sometime soon.

Although the art style is based on Sonic Mania, I still love the idea of making a revamped version of Sonic 4 Episode I (since I personally didn't like the original game). This game has huge potential to become something great, and I hope they'll reach their goal at some point

I like the art direction showing a transition between classic and adventure. Sonic's growth from Sonic 3 to Adventure is shown here too through his appearance and gameplay. Giving one character multiple styles of gameplay is a huge plus in my book.

i’ve seen some comments about the boss and i agree so i won’t go after that, but seeing some added air momentum after the homing attack would make the experience 100 times better, great game though.

Eh, it was inevitable, but very welcomed imo lol, like that someone can take Sonic 06 that was leagues worse, and make it one of the best Sonic games... this was just the next step, someone someday would do this. It is super hype, I'm curious as to whether they'll attempt the episode 3 despite us knowing next to nothing about it, make their own story, or what? Will Chaos or Shadow make an appearance? Will we see the turning point to Metal Sonic that leads to him becoming Neo Metal and the Metal Overlord? Simply tapping into this game, opens the door to so many possibilities.

Like looking into a portal of an alternate universe where the sequel to the original Genesis games was made by people that actually PLAYED the original Genesis games. Whenever I think of Sonic 4, this fan-game will be what I picture in my head from now on. Fantastic stuff, 11/10

This is insane, we got the wrap up to 06's 3rd plot last year, now we get this? After Project 06 I knew it was only a matter of time till someone took the reins on this game. I've never hated 4 like so many people, and it's by far not as bad as some Sonic games, at least it's playable, just mid and boring. However like 06 I knew and saw the potential here, and wanted Sega to keep going, they had a vision, and shouldn't have quit. Episode 2 was at least good, like a 6 out of 10, a step up, but all that they really needed to do to make it better was fix the physics. 4 was an attempt to bridge in the gaps in the Sonic timeline, what happened to Metal between CD and Heroes, how we got from Sonic 3&K to Adventure 1, in fact that's why they opted for Modern Sonic's design rather than classic, he was officially aged up, it was as much an Adventure 1 prequel as it was a 3 sequel. So I'm happy to see this happen, give it the love it deserves, I assume episode 2 also on the horizon. Only question is... will they attempt to make their own rendition of Episode 3? Despite us knowing next to nothing, only that it was planned, but unfortunately scrapped because 1 was so hated, and 2 undersold with mixed reviews. I look forward to seeing what comes of this project, and maybe Sega will get the hint and do the episode 3 proper.

Already played this, so I'll just leave my thoughts here. I really love the pixel art! Sonic is animated nicely, even if some specific sprites weren't changed and still uses Mania's sprites. Additionally, Splash Hill has seen a great visual upgrade, the forest background especially. Small nitpick, but the splash screen with the furries and such take way too long to end and also just looks weird. Would recommend making that shorter. One thing I hated is the boss. Very frustrating boss that lasts way too long. It's the first boss and it's already being way too flashy and hard with its what, 3 phase fight? Last phase being particularly annoying cause you don't get any rings anymore if you lose them all. Also, of course, you're placed over a bottomless pit. Kinda bad design considering the homing attack here has huge knockback, for some reason. Overall, I see promise with this. Just really need to fix its shortcomings first.

The second one - a skip button option, not necessary to make it shorter. I think that the homing attack range should be nerfed a bit cause you have these moments 11:53 where it's ridiculously easy to reach Eggman, and the fact that they don't make use of those spherical arms attached to it as a way to go up and blast him, i dunno it doesn't feel that right.

On one hand, I get what you're saying. On the other hand, this _is_ a fan game and it looks like they are leaning more into a more challenging and difficult boss encounter experience. And historically, Sonic bosses have been very easy overall. This game looks to be quite challenging. However, I think that's what will make it more fun.

Like it, great version of Sonic 4, I don't know what others might think, but for a 2D sonic game, it SHOULD NOT have the homing attack but that's just me

No I agree. 3D Sonic games need the homing attack because it's hard to hit the enemies in a three-dimensional space, but in 2D games where you can only go up and down there's no need of the homing attack. It takes away the challenge. One thing a classic Sonic game should never have is boost. Spindash + boost is dumb.

Really the only thing I can see here that's a bit disappointing is using dash pannels. Remove those, or at least most of them, and I'd say it'd be better. You've got plenty of ways to gain speed, so why need dash pannels? It's something the original game did too, and leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
