As much as I'd love for a sonic Saturn prototype to exist, I'm 99% sure it doesn't. The photos show too high quality models and there's absolutely no hud elements. I also believe these photos are way more stage-ey if that makes sense. Looks like mockup areas, not actual places that lead to other rooms, other than the "ice cap" one, which I believe is just the bottom of a canyon
i love hearing about prototypes of sonic games, being that the sonic 2 prototypes are one of my biggest interests, and i think this video did great talking about and keeping my hopes up for the sonic 1 tokyo toy show prototype. 17:03 also this was unintentionally funny. ive never heard a tts swear and it shocked me so much i couldn't help but laugh
One of the Sonic 1 prototypes that I know chronologically are: •The initial game test • The lost prototype from the Tokyo Toy Show in 1990 • Lost Prototype Pre WCES/Post TTS prototype •The Sonic 1 (W) CES Prototype •The Sonic 1 Hidden Palace Prototype (Very close to the final version) • The Manual/ Arcade Build
Its pretty cool seeing how quickly this channel has grown! It's great that you're spreading awareness in the search for lost media. Keep up the great work man, excited to see what's next!
Regarding Sonic Adventure as an RPG, they most likely meant something more like an adventure game. "Role-Playing Game" in Japan typically means a game where you're fully taking in the role of the hero, like what we often see as just adventure games, so I feel like what it means when Sonic Adventure was once an RPG it probably would've been the same game but the open worldy hub segments would've been a lot more involved. Sonic Adventure and Shenmue were both the main focus of the Dreamcast and both games feature a heavy emphasis on exploration of a relatively open area so I feel like Sonic RPG was most likely a game more focused on exploring a lot of the hub areas a lot more rather than a more involved 50+ hour story. This is all just me assuming stuff, though. also I really have no idea but I always just assumed it was called Sonic Adventure because it heavily borrowed from adventure game elements lol
