Honestly all sonic needs is more adventure style levels with Saturn aesthetics.

Depends, Sonic Jam was a great example of pushing the Saturn despite it only being put together just Sonic Team could move development to new hardware, problem SEGA had back then it was rushing everything, a good example is Daytona USA/Virtua Fighter 1 launch games VS Daytona USA Circuit Edition/Virtua Fighter 2 which used better engines and had the benefit of developers knowing the Saturn hardware a bit better along with better SDKs to work with, Sonic could of gotten a good 3D Sonic game in 1997 if SEGA didn't pull the plug on Saturn and ditched the current system *Again* for another one.
