I’m not hot on the splitting of the first section of the song into two verse (though I appreciate you’re just working with what you have), but my god, the key change with the 8-bit version made me a little misty eyed.
The Japanese game over theme is tactically a version of you can do anything because it’s just the vocals at the toot toot sonic warrior part but sped down with pitch

like others have said, the tune has been used in several Sonic games at this point, but if you trace it all the way back, the original is the Green *Hills* Zone (not to be confused with Green Hill Zone) from the 8-bit version of Sonic 2, on Master System and Game Gear. This is nothing new and unusual, the Sonic game devs have always had a habit of recycling old Sonic tunes, but can you blame them when they're too cool?
