Celebrating my 50th track day at Sonoma, freshly repaved and done well unlike Laguna (lol). The weather was iffy all week, but it ended up being perfect weather. There was some light precipitation after lunch, but the track barely got wet and was perfect for the last session. Sonoma continues to test my courage, and the feeling of exiting the track at the end of the last session with my fist out the window never gets old.
Going into the day, I just wanted to get a 52 again. I had only done it once in May last year, and I practically regressed time-wise the rest of the year. With all the driver mods recently (FastSideways, Joe coaching, rainy track days, lots of seat time), I was surprised to put down a few 50s. The repave definitely helped since the grip is much more predictable, and the car isn't bouncing around at certain sections. I should just wait for all tracks to get repaved lmao. Also, let's not forget that the brakes are so fucking good now that I can really dial that in.
I was going to do in-car coaching with Joe for a session, but my confidence at this track isn't very high, and the schedule was kinda tight, so I figured I should do it at a later date once I'm much closer to what the car can do. Joe did put in a solo session to set a reference lap, which he did despite having only 1 or 2 clean laps. He says the car can do a 48.5, so that's the stretch goal unless I mess with the car's setup. Let's get to sub 50 first though haha...
