I have had the PlayBar the Sub and 2 play ones for about 6 years now and they are still going strong. If you play music and turn it all the way up the entire house sounds like a nightclub. It’s impressive the amount of bass that comes out of that small sub. Great video!
I just purchased one of these used from a friend that had it for a year. (They 'upgraded' to a newer Sonos soundbar). I'm running it optical off a brand new Samsung TV in a large room with roughly 10K cubic feet. Something around 30x20x17-ish ft. After running the config on my cell phone, this thing sounds remarkable. I have some experience building custom home theater systems once-upon-a-time...two decades ago...and for something this small to present such a good spatial sense in such a large room...really impressed for the $$$. My first Sonos product and I look forward to trying out more. Impressed. Oh...and good vid. Nice job.
Blown away! That playbar and the Sub was what Sonos hit the market with to blow away Bose. Yeah that playbar is still top notch innovation from Sonos and worth the money.
Update: The Playbar is currently $150 off until 5/5/2020. Many have speculated that Sonos is getting ready to announce a new updated soundbar shortly thereafter. As soon as we find out, we'll be sure to provide an updated video.
I will say it has nice bass with out the subwoofer sometimes at night I still have to put it in night mode just because the bass is sometimes to loud at night in my apt. The sonos ones also shake my couch really surprised from those little guys. And the subwoofer then you turn that on its ridiculous how much sound comes from that subwoofer
KINGDOM Family omg I’d die for that setup. Are they wireless? I don’t understand what he said about this car not having Bluetooth? Does that mean I can’t play music from my phone? My tv is wall mounted I’m trying to understand what was missing in this bar he mentioned thanks
I have a playbar, base and 4 Sonos 1's. Instead of using them as surround sound, I set them up as if they are in other rooms (but in the same room). I just like the sound better then setting them up as surround sound speakers. On avengers endgame final scene when they all come out the portal and music playing, it sounds great! My backyard pretty good size and my neighbors can't believe how crisp it all sounds. I'm going to add another playbar and hang it up on the wall behind our sofa. I think you can have 2 playbars going at the same time.
We apologize to our followers, if you received multiple notifications about our upload. We had to make adjustments for copyright issues. Unfortunately, we had intended to provide an actual demonstration, but kept getting hit for copyright.
How do you turn the playbar off if you want to listen only from tv speakers? I want to use the playbar only for movies and music. I have the play bar conected with the tv but i don't want to use it all the time when tv is on.
But why? You absolutely will want to listen to TV via the PlayBar at ALL times. It adds clarity to dialogue and sounds good even at lower volumes. Why would you want to only use it sometimes is beyond me and actually complicates things immensely for an otherwise set it up and forget it experience.
Great Video - I had a question - I am using it for my projector Bluetooth Audio out "to Bluetooth receiver in" TO Aux Out" - to "Analog to digital convertor "to Optical cable as input, but the sound is low on the play bar compared to One SL i clubbed together, I don't have the option to convert the audio to Dolby digital can you guide
They are two different components, so depends on your need. The Playbar is for Home Theater while the Play 5 is intended to be used as a music listening device. Both are fantastic, but again just depends on what you need it for.
Hey guys . love your tips. Question, can you control you tv volume with the tv remote, when the playbar is connected via a optical cable? Im guessing NO, and this is only means of connection
Hi Marty, you should still be able to control the TV volume when the Playbar is connected. I go over this in the video as a preference of mine because I don’t always like the Player on.
Unfortunately, only the Sonos Sub is designed to work wirelessly. However, you could get the new AMP and connect your own wired speakers and sub to the Sonos ecosystem.
Do you absolutely need a TV to use the play bar? I primarily want it for music, I’d like to just plug it into the wall outlet then connect via Bluetooth? Is this possible? Awesome review btw
If you're not going to use it for your TV/Movies, I would probably consider the Play 5 or new Five speaker as a better alternative. Also, keep in mind that these products don't connect directly via Bluetooth. The Play5/Five does have a line-in input though, so you could use that.
@@HiFiBrothers you know I really cant say but I will definitely look when I get in but let me ask how can you tell what's connected to the router.......also can you all do a review on the Nakimechi shockwafe 9.2 thanks for the response
If any of your Sonos products are connected to your router "wired" this creates a separate network for your Sonos products to operate, thus making them run smoother and reducing connectivity issues. I have my Playbar connected directly to my router via wired cable and hardly ever have connectivity issues. You may want to try that out. If your Sonos products are too far from your router to be connected by wire, then you may want to invest in a Sonos Boost. Hope that helps! We'll try to get our hands on a Shockwave and do a review! Thx
Great video, thanks for this guys. Had a question about connecting from Sony X950G to this bar via optical audio. Any specific settings on my tv that i need to make sure I have to ensure good sound? Right now even with Dolby Audio mode selected, i have to crank it up to 40 on my sound bar to get a good level of audio while play TV/Movies through the TV native apps (netflix/hbo/etc.). Thanks!
Hey appreciate you commenting! I think 40 on your volume seems about right. That's kind of my sweet spot too for decent loudness. Native apps are all different too so sometimes it could just be the app itself for causing the issue. I notice this between Netflix and Vudu. If you have to crank to 70 for decent sound then there would definitely be an issue. Hope that helps!
How will this bar look under a 65” Samsung q90r tv? For my lounge room. Is it good just on its own without the sub? :) cheers Want this bar for sure How do I wall mount this?? What did you say it doesn’t have? I missed it
The part of the video that shows the Playbar mounted is under a 65" TV so that'll give you an idea. You'll need to purchase a TV mount for the Playbar which is sold separately. Hope that helps!
Is the playbar worth it for somebody who strictly will watch movies/tv shows through this? Music will be very rare. All these play bars with Dolby atmos now is that the way to go for movies?
The Playbar should be used primarily for movie/TV watching as this is what was built for. Dolby Atmos is still debatable of whether it makes sense for a soundbar but it's based on preference and budget. Hold off for a week though because Sonos may announce a Dolby Atmos Playbar next Friday.
If I’m in an area with terrible WiFi, can I connect the playbar to my tv and call it a day? What I mean by that is, I just plan on playing Xbox offline and just want to improve my sound, don’t plan on adding a sub or other speakers, just want the sound, can I obtain that without WiFi or can I only use this product with WiFi?
Hi Emily, Sonos products use WiFi audio so everything is controlled from their app. WiFi audio is much better than bluetooth, IMO. Mostly because the quality is better and your music won't get interrupted if you receive a phone call or text notification. Check out our previous video titled Sonos Buyers Guide, which may give you some further info. Hope that helps!
For sure they both do 3 channels. The Playbar just does it better because it has more drivers. If you require Airplay 2 and/or Google & Alexa then the beam is really your only choice. Definitely don't want downplay the beam. It's still a great soundbar for the price, but after a lot of back and forth, I decided to go with the Playbar based on sound quality.
Agreed the PlayBar is still much better than a Beam 2. Beam 2 supposedly has Atmos support, but I’m telling ya…your ears will not deceive you if you compared the two and PlayBar sounds much better. Beam 2 still lacks mid bass and even paired with a Sub Mini does not sound as good as a PlayBar. Save your money and buy the Sub Mini with a PlayBar and two Sonos Ones as rears.
Sonos gives a lot of problems. Took forever to get playbar and surround connected. Then it just quits, now it won’t do anything because it needs an update and the update won’t take. System is expensive and very frustrating.
Do you have one of our Sonos products connected directly to your router? If not, you may see increased performance of you do. If you can't because your products are too far away, try getting a Sonos Boost. Hope that helps!
Sounds like you need a good Mesh WiFi upgrade. Sonos products are rock solid with connectivity and problems there are almost always due to a crappy WiFi network that can’t keep up with all the devices.
Yep, we'd be curious if rooms with high ceilings would capitalize on the Atmos effect. Playbar/Playbase should be sold at $499, making it a good mid-level option.
Please keep in mind this video was made before any announcements by Sonos. As nothing is quite official yet, and just speculation at this point, we'll be sure to make an update. Stay tuned!
