@@paganmin1214 The main reason is the OSS. I mainly shoot handheld and the OSS helps a lot. Should you own the KIT Lens, try to deactivate the stabilization and shoot some footage. Then you could find out if you can live without OSS. But both are great lenses!
I will buy this lens for my Sony a6300 (for shooting video). At first I wanted to buy a Sony 18-105, but it differs little from the Sony 16-50 (I already have one).
The 35 will give you more bokeh because of the focal length but it really depends on what you want to shoot. The 16mm is the better choice for travel or landscape, the 35 works better for people, especially close ups.
I agree. I love the Sony 35mm on my a5100. OSS is more important to me than being a hair sharper with Sigma. This and the 18-135 are my most used lenses.
I'm reading and viewing reviews to learn what could be the most useful lenses for my new Sony camera (I'm new to photograpy, and this is my first proper camera with changable lenses). It seems that the combo you just mentioned is really the best and most useful.
There's no affordable 23mm for indoor. There's zeiss one but I'd rather buy sigma 16mm instead, more unique and wideeeeeeee. I'll wait for viltrox 23mm 1.4 and see the review before getting it
Hi, nice video!, i really enjoyed, i was wondering, as you have much more experience with this lense (i just got it) what you think are the sweet points? I've read f/2.8 . f/5.6 and f/11, could you share your experience? thank you
Hi, since I shoot video most of the time and therefore the absolute sharpness is not as important, I use it mostly at 2.0 or even at 1.8 to get the most cinematic image. But of course it will be sharper at 2.8.
I've been using this with my a6400, and it's an awesome combination! And when I throw them on a Crane M2 gimbal, it's another level of awesomeness. Great storytelling setup. My favorite lens, for sure, I love the roughly 50mm look for a variety of situations. Looks like real life to me. I am also using the 16-50 kit lens, and can get great shots with it. I feel like that lens is taken for granted as a "throwaway" lens, but if you throw an ND filter on it, and get your settings right, it's got great character. At least to me. ;) In any case.... Great video, as always, thank you.
@@desirewithinus I think the a6400 is a better choice because you have so much more great glass to choose from. As long as you can figure out how to stabilize it, it’s really an incredible camera. Especially if you get a handle on all the picture profiles. Really special.
@@RockWILK Thanks. My main purpose will be taking photos, especially my kid + some general purpose. Taking it out whenever I'm with my family. So I needed something compact and light weight. Carrying a 1.3kg dslr all day is no fun 😑.
@@desirewithinus The a6400 is really small and so light. I mainly have either my Sony 35mm f1.8 OSS on it or my Zeiss Batis 25mm f2, Which is a little bit heavier and bigger, but still pretty small. Both incredible lenses, and the whole set up is really easy to carry around with you all the time. The Zeiss is not stabilized though, but it’s an amazing lens. And if you really wanna go small, just use the kit lens, people say disparaging things about it, but trust me, you can get great footage from that little lens. And it’s stabilized, and it’s got a pretty decent range, and once you get all your settings together in the camera, you can do great work with that lens. Best of luck with all of it, I’m sure no matter which camera you choose, you’re going to be very happy.
Wonderful video. Perhaps the best lens review I've ever seen. Informative explanations and hypnotizing visuals. Great work! My Sony 35mm will be here in a couple days! :)
Nice video! Good job! Bro, i have a6400 and sony 35mm 1.8 oss. But I have a bad quality of the video, I’ve already bought a camera completely, I shoot in full hd 30fps 1/60 shutter speed and no sharpness, in what settings did you shoot this video?
I want to buy this lens but some say that it is not enough sharp to take photos. I will use it on gimbal. At 1:53 i noticed that video is extremely sharp. Did you apply any sharpen filter in the post? Do you think FE 35 mm F1.8 would be better than this when using on A6400 for videography?
Yes, of course but it depends for what you need the lens. If you want to capture the whole space it might not be the right lens. But for portraits for example it works fine.
It always depends on which focal length you need. The talking head parts of all my videos are taken on this lens. The Sigma 30 1.4 would also be a good choice.
Thyago Videomaker Sony’s sharpness is very bad, 2-3 times better on sigma, I have both lenses and sigma out of competition, and sony have misfocus (sorry for eng, not my native lang)
