Most contemporary feature films (shot digitally) that people identify with have been shot with super 35/cropped sensors. The shift to full frame for features is a pretty recent thing, and hasn’t any bearing on what most audiences are going to perceive as being cinematic. I’m just mentioning this for the sake of anyone contemplating the FX30 for that kind of work. On the topic of “entry level” as a term, it’s something designed (by former advertising slime like me) to keep people feeling they have to keep spending money. The a7C has been perfect for myself, just for the sake of being able to pack it so easy (along with a small gimbal and lens choices). Like yourself I know it’s capable of producing great images and video. All that said, I do like the FX30 and that 10bit, along with all those tiny apsc lenses out there lol. Awesome to come across another TO creator BTW!
A got the A7C as backup for my A7III. It's the A7C that's goes everywhere and gets the shot, the A7III is the rigged out studio queen waiting for something to come along. I enjoy the A7C much more than I thought I would. Funny you mention that I have the 20 and 85 and that is the one two knockout combo; don't waste money on the super fast lenses because the bulk and weight will have you leaving them at home when it should be every-day-carry light.
I was using Canon M50mki (x2) and a 5D2 for wedding video. I bought A Canon R6 to upgrade the primary. It died on the first wedding of Error 70. Its replacement died straight out of the box. Refunded. I bought one A7C for the gimbal. it's amazing! So I bought two more and use all three for three-camera angles for weddings. The quality of the Exmor R sensor is epic. The battery life is incredible. And I mostly shoot in 1080p 50fps 25mb which is its lowest quality setting. I've bumed up to 50mb on the same settings for improved bitrate pixel peeping. But oh man! The A7C is INCREDIBLE!

I’m looking at getting a canon r10 as my first “real” camera. The main goal is capturing family moments - kids sports, hiking, family trips, etc. I don’t anticipate using much video. The main thing that attracted me to this camera was the frame rate and auto focus at this price point. I think the cheap RF lenses will be fine for me, although I do hope canon allows 3rd parties to make lenses in the future. Is this a good option or is there a better option at this price point?
hey i think the the r10 is a great buy. if you are also only doing photos the canon rp is also worth looking at for it is about the same price but it delivers much better photo quality with a full frame sensor.
I'm comparing this to the new canon r8 rn an this honestly seems like a better option since I can only assume it takes the same batteries as the a7iii. You may be giving up unlimited 4k recording on this but you're picking up ibis and a true mechanical shutter
I love this camera for everything you mentioned. I had a 5D3 and sold it bc it was just too big. I really loved the pics from the canon but not being a pro, it didn’t make sense for me. My iPhone has limitations so I want a compact FF camera. I’ve been waiting a while for the A7C 2 to come out. This review helped confirm my resolve to get the Sony. I considered the Sony RX1 RII but seems as if Sony is discontinuing that camera. The other Sony mirrorless cameras are too big. Any word on the A7C2? Good review. Thanks 👍
I don't think they will make a sony a7c2. Most likely they will put out something in the sony zve line for content creators. But most likely no new cameras until spring 2023 until NAB in may ish
Most true photographers do not care about the video function....Many prefer a flip down screen....However... I own the A7c bodies and consider them excellent working machines for street work. cheers
Hey! Great review first of all. I need your help with a recommendation. I'm looking for a good camera that will go really well for wildlife photography, landscapes and portraits (importance in that order). I was looking at Canon R7 all this while until my friend suggested seeing your videos on Sony cameras because i could get a full frame sensor in the same price as that of an R7. Could you tell me your best recommendation? The budget maxes out at R7's price.
the a7c is superior with better autofocus and the flip screen. Even for photo having a better autofocus is important. A7c has smaller viewfinder ( but very precise with fast refresh) however it has the advantage to be on the left which allow your nose to not touch the camera. Vertically it allows to keep a hat on the head which you cannot do with a7iii. It fits easier in the bag without the big viewfinder. And the camera is still more compact when you add a bigger flash like hvl-f60rm2. It is flat so the height of the camera + flash is smaller. I recommend adding the smallrig 3212c which add a nice grip. However it make the camera heavier but also protect the camera. The cage make the a7c more stable in videos and give a nice grip as the a7iii. The grip is good with longer and heavier lenses for photo as well. The only advantage of a7iii is a bigger view in the viewfinder to my opinion. Personally i see very well in the a7c viewfinder. I prefer having a smaller viewfinder but having a flip screen for difficult angle photos. And in modelling photo it is better to use the flip screen. It is a personal preference.

I'd like to ask you the following: I want to buy a really good camera for taking photos ( I don't care about video),and my main interests are great image quality and pleasant and realistic colour performance,since colour is really important for me. Having said that, which camera would you choose between the Sony A7C and the A7 C2? I shoot cityscapes,street photography and night photography most of the times. Sony A6700 could be another option although I don't know if it can compete with the Sony A7 C and C2 as far as image quality and colour performance are concerned.

it would definitely not be good for that. The heating will be a issue. for that you need to look at an fx3 or fx30. The fx30 is something close in price.
thanks for the review. So I'm looking for something to do video product shots and some action shots. Anywhere from 10ft to 12" away, I'd like that crisp subject focus with blurry background (DOF)... Ideally the body will be small form factor (APS-C, possibly FF if not too large), super good stabilization (really important), good AF, mic support etc. Any suggestions for body/lense combo?

Uses: Sports, landscape, street and some landscape astrophotography. It will be my first camera, until now i just use my phone (google pixel). What camera do you recommend me? I was thinking of canon R, canon R7, sony a7c, or sony a7riii if i can find second hand. Canon r7 seems great but as it will be a general purpose camera i dont know how well it will perform for low light and portraits because of the crop sensor.

same as one of the earlier comments. i was looking at a camera to capture family moments and to use during vacation/trips. i was confused between Sony ZV-E10 or Sony A7c. i was leaning more towards the the ZV-E10 as it is significantly cheaper. but is it worth investing additional amount on the A7C considering I will be using it 99% for capturing photos. a comparison would help :)
Thats a great suggestion, I will include comparison in any future videos. But i think an Zve10 would be better for family photos because of the lower price. I would only recommend the a7c to someone who is passionate about their images and really cares about the quality
Man I love the A7 Cameras but the thing is I've been having an eye on the ZV E10 and the A7c for awhile. I just want to start doing videos like vlogging and some photos basically a camera that would be stable enough along with my movements when I hold it, Like doing contents like traveling, vlogging, possibly streaming through it so its kinda hard to choose between those two cameras but perhaps maybe the ZV E10 although I'm not too sure. Wouldn't mind some advices.
Id definetely go with the Sony A7C. Its more worth it for longterm and the Sony ZV-E10 doesnt have good stabilization so you would have to buy a gimbal to fix it which can be very expensive.

Hey , first of all I just wanna wish you the best of luck. But 200-300 might be a bit too low price wise. But if you can get your hands on a canon T7 used that would be a great fit for photography. And it would depend on where your interest are for making money. But generally offering people headshots or bts photo are a great place to start. If you know anyone who wants photos for instagram or just linked in profile that could be a low pressure way to get started.

Tbh I just research a camera or have a relationship with a Piece of gear that i use often. And I usually spend about a week thinking of everything I want to share, alot of times things get left out. And then i try to just structure it in a way that is informative first and entertaining second.

Hey man! So I really like the A7C because it has the flip screen for vlogging and has really good low light visibility. But I really wanna know if this camera is truly the best for the price. Because I heard the stabalization sucks on this camera(when using a 70-300 mm lens). I need a camera but don’t know which one to buy, I film hunting videos and fishing videos. I need a camera with good stabilizations cause I do plan on using 200-300 mm lens one day. But I also blog. Any recommendations on a camera?(preferably sony) maybe I’ll get a cannon if needed.
stabilization on 200-300mm sucks on every camera because of how telephoto that lense will be. You would be better of putting it on a tripod or shooting at a higher shutter speed. Hope this helps
Why is it that some cameras that are worth 1k+ can’t record 4k 60fps with no cut time yet my iPhone can record 4k 60 fps until the memory runs out ? I’m new to cameras and stuff so I was just wondering 🤔
Great question. So the iphone has a smaller sensor and a different processor and heat management system. The bigger camera generate more heat, process the video at a much much much higher video quality. So they often need to cut for heat management. The best example i can give you is your phone can stay on for days and doesnt need a fan but your pc or laptop needs a fan running most of the time in order to stay cool.
Hi I am planning on starting a vlog channel or Instagram page soon. It would mainly consist on workouts, recipes, walks with my dog and hangouts. I was looking at the Sony A7c and Canon R10. Which of the two is more user friendly/great for beginners? I would like to find something with great stability and sound proof.)
Since this is a 6K camera doing 4K, is it going to be bad if you record 1080? Or should I just go ahead and start recording in 4K anyway. I’m just not excited about the file sizes.
@@DerbJd Thank you! I know reviews said 1080 is a little fuzzy but I think that was for the Ze10. I’m ready to get a camera it’s just it shot up by $300 from when I was looking around in December and the big thing is I’m not sure what lens to get. See I think my iPhone 13 Pro video camera is equivalent to about 38mm so I was looking at Sony 35mm 1.4 vs 1.8. People are saying 1.4 is photography lens not video and I don’t know why. It’s supposed to have better quality than the 1.8 cuz it’s a GM. But the thing is the minimum focus distance of the 1.8 is better but neither one seem to be near what my iPhone does. And I think that’s because if you notice - switching from photo to video on iPhone, it crops in a bit. Therefore I’m assuming it allows you to get objects closer to the shot. Cuz it’s just permanently zoomed in on it a bit. Just a bit of a shock going from that to this. It’ll be a downgrade on the close ups and if you look at my videos, close ups is what I do A LOT. So I’m a little lost because the main reason I’m even wanting this is because I need to upgrade my iPhone camera since the field of view is ass with the fixed aperture. My iPhone wants to make everything blurry except like one single button or something like that. I need the whole product in focus. So I think having control of the f stop will be nice. Even though I’m losing a lot of the features of the iPhone. But if the video quality bumps a bit in the process that’ll be nice. Plus I can use it for streaming.
I personally use the 20mm G lense with F1.8. But that is a 800$ dollar lens so it may not fit everyones budget. A really solid alternative is sigma and rokinon if you want a budget option. I would research those brands to see if they have a wide lens you like.
Canon R7 is brand new and A7C is 2 yr old but they are about same price. Specs are better with R7. I am a beginner and want a camera for landscapes and want to work in low light a lot. Please recommend. Thanks.
Hmm, that's really a hard choice. I had the previous Canon M6 Markii with the 32mp sensor, and it does pretty great in low light for an APSC. Landscape I'd go with the R7, but if you really need the low light, I'd go with the A7C..plus the canon RF lens mount is locked, so no cheap 3rd party alternatives while the sony e mount is growing pretty good

Let me know if you have any recommendations to get most out if settings. I want camera to do all the work without any post. Most post I would do is editing on iPhone after transferring photos.
@@indycric you won't be disappointed! just got mine in. Even tho my M6MII has 8 more mp, you can definitely tell there's more detail because of the full frame sensor. I'm honestly surprised even with the kit lens, not even a prime lens.

Indoor with studio lighting. I would just hate to get the Sony ZVE 10 and then find out that smart phone quality surpasses them in the next couple years.
I’m not sure what camera to get A7c or Fuji x100v I’m looking for a compact setup that will allows me to shoot surfers in the water (with a camera housing) photos and videos I love the fujifilm colors so I was thinking also about the xt4 (4k60🤩) but I prefer smaller setup to easily travel with Does the focus system of the Fuji x100v good enough? Do you think the a7c ii will come out soon? If I go with Fuji is for the colors If I go with Sony is for the focus system
the x100v is great but for the price of 300$. I would say fuji makes better cameras like the xt30 mkii. its smaller width wise but slightly tall with the view finder. Int hat price range the canon r8 /r10 and r7 are amazingggg! and shoot faster
This guy has ne clue about what the cinematic look is. Most of the cameras that are using in Cinema are actually Super 35mm. Which is the same size with the aps-c crop cameras.
Do you think this is a good option for making fitness content and shooting videos in a low light posing room ? Love the price range for this camera.
