Thanks for the in-depth discussion and review. I’m shooting an a9 now, but am planning a safari and thinking about resolution. We print 30x50” and it seems like resolution would have produced noticeably different results. If you had to choose, would you take an a9 or an a7riii on safari?

Hi there can you help me out please I want a camera for night sky scenery photos and for birds in flight, I have looked at the Sony a7 iii and the Nikon 810 but both seems to have their faults when used over time so I’m stuck to what to buy

*Superb* review Fro. You’ve put those other guys to shame. Would it have swayed me from my final choice? Probably not, because I’ve had four FF e-mount Sony’s already, but I really enjoyed the entire video. Great film work and editing, and *highly* entertaining presenting.

Thanks for the review Jared. I got my A7Riii Friday and have taken some shots. It is a great update from the A7Rii and I couldn’t be happier. Still love my Nikon gear and stills quality with the D810 but the weight difference makes me choose Sony kit every time I travel.

What happens when you bump up so the Sutter speed that you reach e.g 30s or so to the evf ? Will it be blury?

Thanks as always for the great content. I have a question. I switched from canon to Sony a7riii and I have the 24-70 and the 70 200 2.8.. When you were shooting portraits with the 70-200 did it ever focus hunt. I have talked to sony multiple times and they have been no help on this problem I seem to be having and only on the 70-200. Hey Jared, thanks for your great videos I learned so much from you. I have a question about the the a7riii burst. At the moment I use an A7 and an a6300 and when I take pictures in a burst mode the need a lot of time to safe them and I can't review them. Does the a7riii or the a9 the same issue? No camera is perfect for everything. I am loving my Sony A7R3 for most situations and subjects. I upgraded from my A7R2. I am a longtime pro and switched from Canon to Sony last January. Once I got into Sony mirrorless ,I could never go back. I prefer the features of the Sony mirrorless camera over all the high-end Nikon and Canon DSLRs. I am using Sony and Sigma lenses. But the choices here are a personal preference. Nikon and Canon users will do their best to support their allegiance. Cheers and thanks Jared for your efforts !

Tom Lally, The Sigma MC-11 (Canon mount to Sony E Mount) adapter works great on Sony mirrorless cameras.

Mike Zupancic ,no one is saying anyone should spend for two systems. Many Nikon and Canon pros are switching systems though. Sony shooters are NOT switching back to Nikon or Canon. Cheers.

How's the autofocus speed on this Sony vs the Nikon z7? I tried the z7 this past week with the adapter to a Sigma, and the af was hunting and hunting, or just missing outright. Kind of disappointed.

Victor NightSong With up to date firmware and the latest adapters (with up to date firmware), and “modern” canon lenses, yes, eye af will work. Just not as well as with native lenses.

Great review. As alway...A major question for me is which camera to choose; Sony a7iii or the Canon eos-r. I have canon lenses and Tamron and Sigma lenses for Canon cameras. the banding: isn't also caused by the frequency of the LED lighting vs the shutter speed? i shoot my a6300 and a7rii bodies at speeds that are in sync with the lighting. similar to shooting subject in front of a projector. had to do the same with my panasonic g6 and gh4 bodies so it can't be just a read out issue. haven't used the a9 so can't speak for that.

Yes, I would feel confident using the eye af. I took a Sony a9 on a shoot recently because I need to be silent and the eye af did what I needed it to do.
