I'm telling you, this is the finest review of any product out there. You did a great job with this review. I know doing reviews take time and a lot of planning, I'm sure this took many hours of not only shooting, but editing. Thank you.

I really like your reviews; they're adventurous and helpful! You jump right in, showed examples with likes, dislikes, and suggestions, unlike others where they spent so much time sitting in front of the camera yapping away about the product. Also, you have that narrative voice! I look forward to more reviews!

I recently purchased my AX100 about a month ago. There certainly is a LOT to learn and surprisingly very little information available on what all of the controls are for. You review has been extremely helpful. You showed me things I didn't know the camera had or was capable of doing. Many thanks for posting. Greatly appreciated

Hey Maarten, like St. Maarten, your review was stellar, I have had the camera for about six months and just got the bump up to 100mbps. I got a remote zoom meant for older Sony cams along with an adapter and the zoom is nothing but sweet and smooth. Available from B&H the Sony Multi adapter cable VMCAVM1 & the Acebil RMC1AVR, total with shipping $99

Excellent review. Thank you. I bought one of these used a year ago and got some amazing outdoor video. I paired it a new Raynox 2.2x Telephoto conversion lens to increase the zoom magnification to 39.6x, allowing me to get some amazing video of birds on my backyard feeder. I also have used this combination last summer to film from mountain tops in NH where I'm able to identify hiker's clothing from nearly 1.5 miles away. Like any camcorder at 40x, you need to block the wind to keep it steady. I just filmed my first wedding in a large NYC catholic church in full auto mode and it performed stellar! I hope to learn how to use a few of the manual features before my next wedding shoot late April.

I know this is an old thread, but the AX100 is still on sale and a viable camera. Just letting you know that a) there IS a wired remote available and b) firmware update provides 100Mbps recording. I bought an AX100 in mint condition on eBay for under USD1,000. A real bargain. Adding a dual channel Sony wireless Lav that mounts direct to the multi function shoe makes this a truely practical ENG camera for me.

After watching this/other reviews I went out and bought the Sony FDR AX100 (Now Discontinued). I'm very impressed with the performance of this camera so far. I'm still working on the setting to reduce noise that occurs in specific situations such as filming water with a lot of bright light. If you watch "Winter" 4K on my profile you'll notice this noise in several shoots. I still give this camera a solid B+ for video quality verses cost factor. Sony announced at CES they're releasing the little brother to this camera so I look forward to you posting a review on the FDR-AX33.
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 9 лет назад
iEdit Projects I've put the AX33 on my to-do list. I've watched the Winter video, but I feel I'm probably seeing more RU-vid compression artifacts than noise. Nice, pretty shots though. What was the shutter speed?
@iEditProjects
@iEditProjects 9 лет назад
Sorry for the long delay in replying. I do agree that what I'm seeing is probably RU-vid compression artifacts. I was using a 1/60 shutter speed I believe. I'm sort of disappointed I didn't drop it way down to for a dreamy feel. Have you tested low shutter speeds on rushing water with the AX100 yet? I'd like to see your footage if you have. I plan on doing so myself in the coming days and will send you a message if that is ok.
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 9 лет назад
iEdit Projects It's always OK to send me a message. I only had the AX100 for review, so no opportunity to do that now. I do like those slow shutter effects, and Sony seems to support slower speeds than most.
@iEditProjects
@iEditProjects 9 лет назад
I'd like to be in your shoes in terms of getting cameras to test. What camera do you normally use? I wish Sony could go even slower than 1/8 for shutter speed on the AX100. That would make for almost steam like water effects.
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 9 лет назад
iEdit Projects I shoot video with the Sony NEX VG20. I have a Canon 50D (I'm keeping this one because I love the L24-105 lens); a Panasonic GF1 (the best low light food pictures although I've been thinking about upgrading to the LX100) and I mostly shoot with the Sony A6000 - but since I'm nearly always reviewing something I don't get as much chance as I'd like to use it. There's a limit to how slow you can make the shutter for video ... otherwise there's so little motion.

I am going on a family vacation soon, with 3 kids under the age of 9. I want a good camcorder to get some great footage, but also something that will be great with little kids running around. Would you ultimately recommend this camcorder for fast kids? From other reviews, it seems like this camcorder has a slow autofocus, so it might be difficult to lock on kids.
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 10 лет назад
Adam McGrath Unless you plan to shoot only video, I'd recommend a still camera with a good video mode. Slow autofocus is really relative, I would not dismiss this, or any other camera for it's focus speed - they're within fractions of a second of each other - not really a material difference with kids and in video a slightly slow focus is forgivable (sometimes desirable). And with smaller lenses and wider apertures, the depth of focus will be more forgiving. The kinds of focus features available on still cameras are usually superior to those on still cameras.
@AdventureArchives
@AdventureArchives 9 лет назад
Okay, so I thought I understood the film look, but clearly I don't. I saw the section where the video was shot at a 1/60 shutter speed and a f5.6 aperture (big enough to give at least some bokeh I'd assume), but it still looks decidedly video. Can you help me figure out what exactly contributes to that look that DSLRs produce that looks more like film? I've also heard it has to do with contrast and dynamic range, but I'm not sure to what extent. I'm looking to upgrade our cameras to something that has lots more detail (and much more convenient to shoot with than what we've been using, which this camera would be), but I want to retain the look that is closer to film rather than video. Thanks for the very detailed review!
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 9 лет назад
AdventureArchives For film look, shoot at 24fps, shutter 1/30 to 1/60 - that gives you the motion blur you expect in video. Invest in an ND filter. For out of focus backgrounds, a wider iris (2.0) and a subject close to the lens helps - or watch my video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FgpHdMxv2rg.html which could help. Making a scene look like film exposure is more difficult, especially with the little control the AX100 offers - the standard "flat" video gamma doesn't help - that's not how film works. Pay attention to light and lighting - the film look never happens by accident. On a camera with limited control, sometimes the easiest thing is just to under-expose. An interesting exercise is study a few film noir scenes and trying a shoot in black and white to give you a sense of what adjustments you need to make. Study a scenes or scenes you feel capture the look you want and experiment to re-create it.
@AdventureArchives
@AdventureArchives 9 лет назад
***** Cool, thank you very much for the reply! So I was definitely using aperture and shutter speed as I thought I was. We actually shoot with the Canon T3i and I am quite pleased with the "look" (just not the sharpness and detail), but is a "look" like that possible with a dedicated video camera like the AX100? Perhaps it's like you said that the video gamma is the main factor? I guess just the specific color profiles the Canon cameras are just more like what might be shot on film than a video camera? (We now shoot with the Neutral profile and all contrast and sharpness turned off and add it back in post and I've been pleased with the results, it's just switching out lenses is a chore)
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 9 лет назад
AdventureArchives Agreed. In terms of flexibility, the Canon may offer more than a dedicated video camera. Highlight/shadow curves usually have more influence than colour profiles - but both can be useful in getting to the look you want. You definitely want to keep sharpening low. Contrast will depend on the scene (and the look you want). After checking out some of your footage, I think you're doing great work. Staying with a still camera is likely your best option.

Thank you for taking the time out to review this I truly see the value in it. I'm so confused at the moment between the pwx 70 vs vs the ax100 its about a $7- 800 dollar difference with the 4k. The aux option included on the pwx 70 makes this seem attractive as opposed to purchasing the aux option for the AX 100 AT 800. I live in Brampton love the GTA

Excellent review, very detailed and useful, i'm currently shooting with Canon G20 1080i so looking to move to either the Canon G30 1080p or Sony AX100 4k. I'm just alittle concerned about how much space the raw 4k footage would take up, i'm already running 15TB of storage with HD. Do you edit on Mac or PC and also after shooting & editing your 4k footage do you keep the raw footage? thanks again for the review, Cheers,
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 9 лет назад
Robert Jung Thanks for the kind words. There's no question that 4K takes lots of drive space, luckily larger/faster drives keep falling in price (just added an 8TB G-Tech with thunderbolt2). Maarten,great hands-on.....you are comfortable and knowledgeable on camera....are you still using the AX100...?...how was the footage able to play on your edit system....strobing ? how did your system handle all that data rate....? Did it make proxy files ? what kind of file type did you upload to youtube ? thanks...FIL
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 9 лет назад
digifil Thank you for the kind comment. The AX100 was on loan for the review, it's gone back to Sony. The XAVC-S files are easier to import than the AVCHD, but Final Cut doesn't have a problem with either. I did not experience any strobing. I think a reasonably current (I was using a 4 year old iMac i7) should be able to handle it. I store my files and edit from external firewire drives. Final Cut makes ProRes files for edit purposes (it's actually a higher data rate, but easier to edit). Final Cut decides the file type to upload to youtube - but it's a fairly generic H.264 codec with a .mp4 wrapper. Happy to share some of the raw files from the AX100 if you like.

Hi again! Thank you for your reply the other day. Appreciated. Another nice product got reviewed! Seems like for its price, GH4 can beat some of the features and even have a benefit when using many different lenses. What do you think? I think with 4k on board, the exclusion of dual memory card is a very missed opportunity.. How's the quality of the anti shake?

It's really unfortunate that the AX100 won't let you connect an external monitor and see what you're shooting in 4K It would really help when manual focussing is a must. Perhaps a firmware update would address this issue. And I suppose a workaround is possible, if you simply put the camera into HD mode, rack focus and then select 4K recording mode. For a camera costing 2K, you should get this capability as there are several 4K camcorders/DSLRs that will let you do this.

Enjoyed your review very much. I am having a hard time choosing between the AX100 and the X70. Was the equestrian video in your review shot in 4K? If yes, it is the only 4K video I have seen with significant movement that did not have a strobe effect. May I ask what your shutter setting was? Do you consider the autofocus on the AX100 to be too slow to shoot soccer in HD? Thank you.
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 8 лет назад
+Alan Henderson Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate that. I haven't used the X70, so can't really comment. Yes, it was shot in 4K, and it's posted to youtube in 4K, if you have a 4K screen (or 5K iMac) to view it. Shutter speed is the secret, as you suspect. For video look, I typically shoot at 1/60th - that's the setting used for the equestrian footage. If I'm going for a film look (24fps) I might slow down a little further. That gives the right amount of motion blur to smooth the action so it doesn't look strobed. A horse and rider is bigger than a soccer player, and the motion is somewhat predictable - but they do cover quite a bit of distance - I was happy with the autofocus in that situation. I suspect soccer (not having tried it) to be a little more challenging - smaller players, erratic movement, but the distance to the camera likely changes less. I think it would be OK.

@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 8 лет назад
+David Stuckey (Explorer) Yes, if you want to edit your footage you'll need a video editing program. The best one is the one you're already familiar with, as the learning curve for all of them is huge. Each platform (Windows, MacOS) has its candidates. For consumers Adobe Premiere, in one of its many guises (pro and consumer) is likely the best choice. Personally, now that I've learned Final Cut X, feel it's the best choice on the Mac platform. Hope this helps.

Hi Maarten! Nice review, thank You... I just bought the newer Sony FDR-AX 700 and I am impressed with it, but I'm having some noise issues (I'm a beginner). The lady in red in this video of yours, beginning at the 10:11 mark, what were your settings there, which ISO did you use, shutter speed and all that... And did You use some noise reduction in post...? I would love to get that punchy, clean and noiseless video, but I know that I would get noise in that black background... Any tips and tricks for me, something You know beginners usually do wrong...? :)
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 6 лет назад
I don't have any notes from that recording - but in general my process is to set the shutter at 1/60, and adjust the aperture to a setting that gives me the depth of field I want (typically that's around F4). Then I use the ISO/gain to set the exposure to a level that pleases me - with an emphasis on getting the skin tones to a good level, instead of trying to please a meter or a histogram. I did not (and typically do not) use noise reduction in editing. If you are not getting similar results, I imagine the difference is lighting. Hope this helps.

I got the AX100 and I have no regrets, takes amazing video and nice still shots. However I think the AX33 feels like a missed opportunity, it has a smaller form factor, and more features for using multiple cameras at once, which is nice. But it feels like a step down from the AX100. The smaller 1/2 sensor makes the 4K look like standard 1920x1080 HD. Also there's no supported lens hood, and I preferred the 3.5" LCD on the AX100, and BOSS lens seemed a little more noisy on the AX33 compared to the PJ790. But I think the AX100 is about the best consumer camera out there offering 4K currently, also good for entry level professionals as well. The CX900 feels pointless without the 4K, it's just a slightly more advanced HD camera with the XAVCS format.

+hiphopbeatzonline .com Recording time goes up to card space or battery. 4K eats about 2 minutes per GB. If you DM your dropbox email address I'll send you a link with a couple of samples.

+hiphopbeatzonline .com The AX100 records 4K at about 4 solid hours on a 64GB SDXC card. However I have come up with a clever work around solution for the AX100 storing videos and photos efficiently without the need for multiple cards. If you have a portable charger and a wireless portable external HDD it's possible to unload your photos and videos indefinitely, then simply upload them to a computer via the HDD. If you use the USB charger cable of the AX100, it can be charged by a wireless charger, the same kind for phones, tablets and so on. This allows you to then connect an external HDD to the camera and put your content straight to the HDD, freeing up the space on your memory card, so depending on your HDD space, it can be much more than any memory card is capable of storing. Which makes it a much more desirable choice over a DSLR which as you pointed out is restricted to recording capability. Heck, the RX100 MIV only shoots 4 minutes of 4K footage.
@MaartenHeilbron

+Marth Thank you for this useful information. Which connector do you use for the HDD? Are there any specific settings required? An alternate suggestion might be an external recorder, like those made by Atomos, connected to the HDMI out.
@10191927
@10191927 8 лет назад
+Maarten Heilbron I use the Sony Multi USB adapter and connect it to the Multi terminal on the camera, and then I just connect the supplied USB cable that's for the HDD. The HDD I use is WD, and the one I have is a 500GB model, built in wifi, and has its own internal power. It can connect to tablets, smartphones, computers, etc. And the portable charger I have is the Anker 26,500 mAh capacity charger. Plus you can also plug your memory card right into the unit and copy it that way too via an app on a smart phone or tablet. The idea is to be mobile with this kit, you can store both of these in a bag and have an efficient method for storing unlimited content without the need for a computer on hand or multiple memory cards. It works great.

I have the Sony AX100. If you're using HD, it's simply perfect. Videos are clear and very smooth. Everything works perfect except when you try use 4K. The minute you switch it to 4K, the screen becomes VERY SLOW and laggy. You will notice is even before you start recording. The videos you record will be clear but any kind of movement in the video such as someone moving or a waterfall and so on would be VERY LAGGY. I couldn't find a setting to fix that whatsoever. I tried all the different settings. I displayed vidoes directly from camera to 4K TV, after burning them into Blu Ray discs and using UHD Blu Ray player, through computer, every possible way. Still the same problem. The 4K videos on this camcorder are simply too laggy and not worth the price NOR the size of the camcorder.
@MaartenHeilbron

I have no idea what's wrong with your camera, or what settings may be misadjusted, but that is not normal - I found nothing like the problem you described.
@saadagha9642
@saadagha9642 6 лет назад
Hi there, it's definitely not my specific unit that's the problem because I tried 5 other ones at different stores and they all have the same problem. So it's the actual model that has the problem. If you still have the camcroder please do the following: Set the camcorder to 4K mode, no need to actually record. And move it around and try to have a moving object in front of it, even moving your hand if you have no other option. Then switch the file type to HD and try do the same thing. You will notice how it's 1000x smoother.

I returned the camera after the review, so I can't try it. Maybe I'm mis-interpreting your description. Are the effects you're seeing from rolling shutter, which is worse in 4K? If that's it, you're exaggerating in a rather dramatic way.

Fil Sibley It's zoom (and focus) by wire, so it's going to be a little jerky as the motor engages/disengages, no matter how delicate the touch. It doesn't matter which control you use, although I found the lens ring to be slightly better.

@10191927
@10191927 8 лет назад
+GabakTech - Cursos de Computación Gratis I assume you're referring to the secondary lens on the LCD of the Panasonic? The picture-in-picture feature? No, the AX100 doesn't have that, the closest to that is on the AX33 where you can add up to 5 separate cameras on one device and cycle through those on the LCD of the AX33. Or it's live streaming feature. However it should be noted that the PX70 only has a 1/2.3" imaging sensor, and the AX100 has the 1" imaging sensor, and I've had Sony cameras with the 1/2.3" sensor and I can tell you the 1" imaging sensor is miles above others. Deeper colors, deeper saturation and much better shallow depth of field when weighed against a camera with a 1/2.3" sensor. Visually you can tell right away, and if you want quality images, bigger is certainly better. Don't be swayed by a few additions in the name of camera quality which is where it counts.

Really sharp video, even for 1080. I recently bought the AX100 camcorder and I found that there's a terrible amount of rolling shutter in my video, especially while fast panning. I noticed your video while panning fairly quick, while the horses are jumping, there is virtually no noticeable rolling shutter. Can you share what setting you used for that particular clip?
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 9 лет назад
webstarx09 Thanks for the kind words. In my lexicon, rolling shutter - sometimes "jello effect) refers to the distortion of objects as either they or the camera moves. If a camera is prone to that, it typically happens under all conditions - I'm not sure what the technology solution is, but I believe it has something to do with the speed in which data is read from the sensor. The equestrian events were shot at 30fps with a 1/60 shutter and the camera on a tripod. I may have used ND, but I don't remember. If motion looks like of jerky and not smooth the difference is usually the shutter speed, which for video should be 1/24 to 1/60 - not less than, nor more than twice the frame rate. Until I figured that out (and got a video camera where I could control that) I was always unhappy with my equestrian footage. Hope that helps.

***** Thanks for your input. I wanted to love this camcorder but in the end I returned it after two weeks. This is the best camcorder I've ever owned, similar to when the Sony VR 2100 came out. I tried very reason to keep it but because of a recent discovery with the audio, I sent it back. Here's my thoughts and findings, I'm hoping it was just my camcorder. I've been trying to find a review on the FDR-AX100 that includes the quality of the audio. I recently purchased and returned my AX100 within 2 week because of an issue with noise in the audio. Specifically, while using the zoom rocker, zooming in or out fast, you get the servo noise recorded. If you ramp up the zoom speed it goes from a slight hum to a loud hum, relatively loud, not acceptable for most situations. I called Sony and was advised that it was an inherit problem. But nobody seem to be complaining about this. Have you checked the audio while fast zooming, especially while monitoring it with a headset? I'm wondering if it was my camcorder, since not one review mentioned anything about the servo noise.
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 9 лет назад
webstarx09 I'm assuming that you're in a very quiet environment, or using the internal mics for purposes they're not intended. For any on-board mic, I'd assume that you'd pick up some noise - what I usually hear are my fingers on the lens, among other camera generated sounds. I find it doesn't take much ambient sound to mask it. If it was noticeable in general situations, maybe it is a defect of the unit. I'd also suggest that when high quality audio is important that external microphones or dual system recording is the solution. I would rarely use the internal mic for any purpose other than background ambience, or a reference to sync the separate audio recording - a comment that I would extend to all cameras.
@webstarx09
@webstarx09 9 лет назад
***** Thank you, you've been very helpful and I think I'm going to buy the camera again and try it out. As for the mic, I don't use the on-board mic either, save for some quick shots. The mic I use is a Audio-Technica Pro24-CM which has received mostly positive reviews. In fact when I remove the mic from the MIS there is no noise, as soon as it makes contact the noise is back leading me to believe the vibration is throughout the camera. Hoping this helps anyone else who may come across this issue. I do have a sample I kept if you're interested in hearing it, my yard backs up to a heavily wooded area and I went out at 4 am to record the different wildlife sounds, that's the only ambient noise there is.

ELPistoffo Auto mode with fixed shutter speed works, no over-exposure (Sony by default tends to slight under-exposure). Thank you for your review, how did you find the conversion from 4K to 1080p as compared to straight 1080p is there much of a difference ? Cheers Paul

Excellent question, I should have commented on that. I did find that my 1080p output from FCP appeared to be more detailed, although I'm not sure why that would be. Thanks for your kind words.

hi again...i am between sony ax100 and panasonic hc-920..i will use the camera 90% at night....your opinion is very inportant for me..thanks
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 10 лет назад
Γιώργος Αλεξίου I have not used the HC-920. Three 2/3 sensors or one 1 inch is a difficult choice, but I suspect the single larger sensor in the AX100 will be better at night. If 4K is not an issue for you, consider the HDRCX900 - identical to the AX100 but without 4K, and closes the price gap somewhat.
@photoalexiou
@photoalexiou 10 лет назад
the price is almost close...4k capture is better for bad conditions.i mean,over and uder ecposures will be esier to correct them at mondage..dont you think?
@MaartenHeilbron

Γιώργος Αλεξίου 4K provides the option to crop if your final output is HD, but I wouldn't count on it to assist fixing exposure problems in post. Video isn't RAW.

What settings would minimize any wobble from the large sensor
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 9 лет назад
RR Videos I'm not sure what you mean when you say "wobble" ... can you be more specific or send me an example? In general, using a tripod would be the solution to stop video from being wobbly.
@RRVideosAndSound
@RRVideosAndSound 9 лет назад
***** Let me try this-- imagine a very fast pan. The image in the top of the recorded frame will be slanted compared the image in bottom of the frame. Thanks for taking the time to reply...if I am still not clear, I will make an example, just let me know.
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 9 лет назад
RR Videos Understood. These kinds of effects - image shear creating by the scan speed of an electronic shutter - are kind of inevitable, particularly if the pan is fast and the readout speed of the sensor is slow. I found the AX100 to be less susceptible than most to this effect. In order to minimize, use a tripod, don't use image stabilization (which tends to add to the effect) and keep your shutter speed at 1/60 (or even slower 1/30) - let it blur, which will mask the effect. Otherwise, there's no way to speed up the readout from the sensor.

Hello! I just got mine today, and so far I really like it! I don't have an external monitor yet, but I want to buy one so I did some research. I am finding pretty much everyone saying that you can preview your shots on an external monitor on 4k mode, but when you press record it turns off and you can not see what you are recording. Is this true? Is this a bug that was fixed? I can't seem to find any solid information on it and I'd like to know before I invest in a monitor. Thanks!

i liked this video greatly because it was extremely informative. However, I have a question for Monsieur Maarten. You state, as does Sony, that this camcorder is a 4K camcorder, yet can only shoot in UHD; why, then, do you call it a 4K camcorder? I was extremely interested in purchasing one of these until reading this somewhere else. Do you know of any handycams, not necessarily Sony, that do shoot in true 4K? thank-you Rschweik
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 10 лет назад
Randall Schweiker Thanks for the kind words. I do mention that there are two 4K formats. I'm not sure that most consumers are going to take issue with either Sony's or my terminology here - although I appreciate that those with a background in cinema who are aware of the origin will find issue with the appropriation of this term.

***** 1 other question: as Sony's AX-100 goes, do current "4K" tvs properly display video from it in UHD format, or is the video up- or down-resed for the "4K" tv?

Last 1: what is a semi-good microphone pairing for the AX100
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 10 лет назад
Randall Schweiker Interesting question. For general ambient recording the on-board mic is fine, I don't think you're going to do better with an inexpensive shoe mounted shotgun. For subjects speaking on camera, you can't beat an RF lav - there are several good options, I have the Sennheiser ex2 kit (you see the receiver in the video). If you are intent on quality audio, go dual system with a real off camera shotgun into an high quality digital audio recorder.
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 10 лет назад
Randall Schweiker Checking at Sony's site, I see that both 3840 and 4096 are supported on their 4K sets, but there's no indication of the actual horizontal pixel count. LG and Samsung only support 3840, so that may be the pixel count, other manufacturers provide even less detail.

Because the segments when put together for edit skip or drop the sound.

Yes, I downloaded that update. Now, I just need to get my video camera tomorrow in the mail. :-) I am excited about getting it. I just sold my Canon HF G30 so I can buy this. I was going to get the AX33, which I LOVE the floating lens. I was sad to realize that the 100 doesn't have that option. Here is the update for the AX100: esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=FDRAX100&LOC=3#/downloadTab

+Boeingspotter1 - Canadian Aviation I wish I'd had the opportunity to review the HFG-30 (or the XC-10) but neither is in Canon Canada's media review loaner pool. What specific types of events or situations are you looking to record? What are your requirements?
@Boeingspotter1
@Boeingspotter1 8 лет назад
+Maarten Heilbron I like to film the activity of arriving and departing aircraft near the airport. ( I have nearly 500 videos on my channel to serve as examples, if you need any) I've been filming with an old Sony PJ-10, but I want to improve the quality of my videos to a semi-professional level. I don't really have many requirements, apart from it being below 1500$ (I hope to spend less then a thousand, but I expect holiday sales to reduce the cost for me), as well as it filming in 1080p60, and with decent low-light performance. Zoom range doesn't bother me too much, nor does weight or size.

RU-vid OVERKILL! No Sense in spending this kind of cash to make videos for RU-vid.. To view a 4K video on youtube you must have an excellent internet connection and a very expensive computer with hi-tech graphics card that can handle the quality! 720P is the best setting choice for viewing youtube videos.. My suggestion -- DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY on A Camera like this to make youtube videos! and just to let you know - to date - the camera cost is around 1,000.00 on ebay!
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 7 лет назад
I DISAGREE! The quality and features of the AX100 make it an excellent choice even if your only outlet is RU-vid. Although it does require a good Internet connection, and a reasonably recent computer, neither of these are out of reach for the majority of Americans and Europeans. If you are creating family memories, 4K TV sets are no longer out of reach either. This may be a WASTE OF MONEY TO YOU, but for many a 4K camera is a great tool for video production of all kinds. I will also note that it's becoming increasingly difficult to find a camera that doesn't record 4K. And if you can find it for $1K on eBay (it is nearly three years old at this point) - that's a great deal and a good reason to get moving to 4K. Thanks for commenting.

"If possible, you should watch it in that format"......If you paid attention, the presenter clearly outlines this. Your comment is so classic of childish unqualified dribble. The presenter made a very high quality, informative and educational video. 100% well produced content. 1 year later, what is your view now Mr 720p man?
