Sony BDP-S3700 Blu-ray Player with WIFI Review! Worth it? 

I bought this on sale at Walmart last night (35 miles round trip). I get home and inside is a dirty used one that stinks like cigarette smoke and cheap aftershave. I couldn't get the mirror or wifi to work. I drove all the way back today and they only wanted to refund my money and make me pay the $70 for the new one, not the $52.50 sale price from the day before. I got 2 managers involved to get the even exchange. Watched your video before trying the replacement one. Thanks for posting.

(DISCLAIMER: This is gonna be a long rant post) I would say this thing isn't worth $8, much less $80. I bought one in September of 2021 and even from that point, it acted weird. Sometimes it would turn off by itself a few seconds after I turned it on. Then, after a while, it began to reset itself which meant that I had to re-enter all my wi-fi info all over again. The remote to unit response was ultra sluggish. You would press any button and it would take almost 10 seconds for the unit to respond. Also, a lot of the apps this thing came pre-loaded with were just junk apps that appeared to no longer have any current content. A lot of them didn't even work anymore and/or I wouild get an error message saying the app is no longer supported. Other apps that were advertised as being programmed in the unit were not even included from the start, like Hulu and Crackle, for example. Basically, the only apps I used (barely) were Tubi and RU-vid and even then, those had problems. The Tubi menu was super sluggish but, the video (once it began to stream) was o.k.. Still, I have Tubi on other devices and there were shows and movies that were somehow not available on the Tubi menu with this player. For example, on other devices, it would show certain TV shows and movies as available to watch but, on this player, the Tubi menu would not list those shows or movies. This seems to indicate that the unit did not receive updated app info. Other apps like RU-vid worked only half the time. The stream would be sluggish and would buffer over and over sometimes, other times, it would play o.k.. A lot of times, the video quality was horrible, even if I set it at 720p or 1080p, it still looked like 480p. Still, at other times, I would get an error message saying the app used too much space and the unit would shut if down over and over again. The search menu was sluggish and unresponsive a lot as well. For these reasons, I barely ever used it to stream and would just use the player on rare ocassion. Just a few days ago, the unit just stopped working and now, the disc tray won't open and the unit refuses to power off. I have tried unplugging it and re-plugging it but, nothing works. It seems the disc tray motor might have stopped working. This is frustrating as I rarely ever used this thing and it still is basically brand new. Now I have to buy a new player but, after looking online for them, I have found out that good blu-ray/dvd players are not that easy to find anymore. It seems like only 3 or 4 companies make a handful of units now and most are either cheap junk like this or super expensive ones that cost 2, 3 or even 4 time more than this. I'm glad you got a good unit but, after seeing so many similar complaints to mine from other people who own this same model, I have to say this thing is just garbage. I'm really disappointed with how much SONY has gone down in quality since the 2000's. Back in the 80's and 90's, their products were unbeatable in terms of features, quality and reliability. Pity that this same model is STILL being sold in stores and people are wasting their money on it. Guess they figured it's simpler to adopt the "planned obsolesence" business plan and just focus on selling cheap junk that only "looks" nice but, is not made to last at all, so people can keep buying and buying the latest, upgraded/updated version...

I just bought this here in December 2021 and it works fine. No, it isn't 4K, but really, I don't envision buying or renting 4K discs since my still going strong TV is merely HD and I can't count pixels from where I sit, so I see no reason to upgrade yet. I got it for about $65 from Walmart. To be honest I was a bit taken aback by how small it is compared to my old Samsung player.

Just bought one off eBay for cheap for an open box. But what the difference btwn this unit BDP S3700 and BDP BX370? Someone said it was the same unit but with a different model number. They both seem to have the same features and maybe one is newer.? Just wondering bc when I was trying to buy one, I couldn’t decided which one to get.

Yes I bought one and it’s electronics are sketchy. I’ve had it seize up and had to unplug it to get it to respond. Wi-fi to speakers never worked. Now the thing won’t read dvds so it was good for maybe a year. Be ready to send it back after the first sign of trouble.

same model in 2022 except the packaging looks a little different and an HDMI cable is in the box now. these compact units look great next to smaller panels. just grabbed one and it sits under a 32" TCL and the 1080p output is sharp. imo Sony really is the best option if you don't use a 4K panel. it does the job and and fits almost anywhere on your entertainment rack.

Same issue as Rod P - 2nd unit with same problem. Freezes with power on - no buttons / remote will do anything. Can't eject disc inside. Total junk. Lot's of blogs about this issue with this model and S1700 and S6700 etc... beware, it's not a fluke.

I'm looking at buying this. I want to watch the DVD/Blu-ray disc that I own on to my tablet can I use the Wi-Fi to do that? So I play a movie in to with it stream to my tablet?

This model has a flakey laser optical head, many stop reading all discs prematurely.

I am a bit too old to understand just one thing if you can help? I have a wall-mounted TV in my living room. I want to be able to set up this DVD player in a near-by room but have it display on my livingroom TV without having any cables connected to the TV other than a power cable. Does the "WIFI" feature of this DVD player somehow "cast" the Blue Ray DVD picture to my TV (if the TV is properly equipped to receive signal wirelessly)? Or do I need to connect this DVD player to my TV with a wire to watch a DVD?

Mine crashes multiple times per day and you need to log back in every time to use wifi. I will never get another sony.

Sorry, but this is definitely not the best. There's a lot better options these days. Good luck connecting to a wireless connection. I hate this product. BluRay part is fine, but you need a Phd in networking to connect to internet. It will never connect automatically (using the easy setup option) so you are stuck having to enter all the network info manually, and it never works. And the on-screen instructions suck.

Is there a way to screen mirror with this device? I dont see the hbo max app or Hulu which I have subscriptions for. It doesn’t give me the option to download them and I tried to screen mirror from my phone and I’m having a hard time doing that as well. Please help! What if the remote is broken and can no longer navigate the menus?

I guess the reason you don't show connections for the wifi is bc it doesn't work properly and there are errors and you have to call tech support
