I know its not the same format, but ive had lots of enjoyment repairing old vhs machines, everyone is slightly different in design :-D. The head adjustments were a common thing i had to put right, people see screws and well... ya know lol. Getting the tape to sit on the rabbit shelf with no curls or ripples takes a bit of time, then playing known good tapes to micro adjust the poles untill the change over switching at the bottom of the screen is good, and the tracking is nice. The front loading ferguson videostar machines allways performed well.
Put scope on the video headamp FM output to observe tracking waveform. Envelope display can used to adjust for best signal to optimise playback for particular tape, but it should be set for standard interchange.
You are absolutely correct the last three Sony F30's I've seen (same chassis) the longer metal guide was locating under it's locking post. I had to lightly tighten the small screw at it's base to increase the height during it's pop up so it located in it's slot.I guess it's a common thing for that model with age for some reason.
How about if the picture is jumping and 4 pictures in the screen in black and whites ? Also on play FF or REW, the picture getting better and in color!
The Shuttle Block on the 711B2 and 711D Chassis, in my experience, rarely fail it. Faulty threading, is made, by broken guide post. Thanks for this Video 12V !!
Is this the 711D? I forget all the chassis numbers that Sony used. I remember there was a 710 (Sl 5000 series) 711 Sl 2000, 2500 an 2700, 711B, 711BII, 711D and wasn't there a 712 as well?
On the 711B3 Chassis, pay attention, at the loading motors; this motors have a worm gears clamped with a plastic ring. This plastic ring, on the threading motor, and FL motor cracked, very easily.
Good to know as I am editing a video showing the disassembly of the FL mechanism, and the timing of the main and sub loading rings on this model. That will be up later today.
Eu restauro e colecciono "Betas" de várias marcas,e de muitos modelos Sony que tenho, ainda não passou este problema por mim.Apesar das mecanicas Sony serem quase iguais, vale bem a pena tentar restaurar.
What opinion do you have on the old BASF beta tapes? I've had some of them and they shed their particles as they get old. The old Sony's, TDK's etc are fine.
BASF video tapes were garbage when they came out, and they have not gotten better with age. They were chrome tapes, and chrome is very brittle. When Sony came out with the 711B chassis I remember seeing machines with piles of tape coating all over the inside. The SL200, 2500 and 2700 was really bad. When the upper drum got shiny the tape would stick and cause tape slap on rewind. The slapping tape would shock the tape and the chrome coating would peel off. They also were pretty hard on the heads and would wear heads down quickly.
Hi 12voltvids. I have betamax sl t7me machine. Playback works ,bat there is no picture and sound when playing recorded material.I can see the picture when i press picture search.
Ok here is what happens. The control track needs to be present to synchronize the video heads to the start of the track. If there is no control track the deck mutes the video and sound. In freeze frame, or when the tape is running at a fast or solw speed there will not be a correct control track so the video muting circuit is disabled. So this symptom means you have no control track. It could be as simple as the control track head is dirty. Try cleaning the control track portion of the audio/control head. Audio signals are recorded along the top edge of the tape, and the control track along the bottom edge of the tape.
That's the $60,000 question. They haven't made beta machines for what 40 years so good luck finding parts. You have to buy old machines to take the parts out of them and even people selling old machines these days are getting top dollar. I've seen old betamax machines going for $200 as a parts wrecker and when you get them there's already parts that have been picked off. I had a guy bring me a beta machine a while back and a wrecker that he bought for over $100 to take parts off of what wouldn't you know the part we needed was already gone from the one he paid $100 for so he wasted his money. But those are the chances that you take to maintain this old equipment because there are no new parts available for them. and I pull my hair out when people tell me that they still want to record their home videos on this obsolete equipment. I can't understand for the life of me why anybody is wanting to trust this old archaic equipment to record once in a lifetime memories but that's just me you wouldn't catch me using any of this old crap.
Congratulate me! I'm expecting a Sony SL HF500! Lots of Demos on RU-vid, but none showing the strip down to understand the Loading mechanism and the heads. It plays, ff, rw but he is using a blank tape. I figure the seller didn't know how to set up channel 3 bypass through the Cable Company. TV picture was nothing but static. He didn't record it. I now know it's not on a screw like Driver this one! It has Wingy-dings! LOL Is the SL HF500 like any of the past Beta lessons you given us? You have stripped down quite a few models now! LOL I'm going to order a Metric Allen Key set for one. My sewing machine needs that one too! You are an awesome teacher. Maybe I'll find one of those Beta - Phillips too!
