One thing i noticed was the sony mic sounded better via 3.5mm rather than the shoe mount. Great idea for you to throw that in there.

On sale for 100 bucks now. The size makes it unbeatable. Sound is good, not great, but it is worth it. If you really wanted to the fix in post would probably take a few seconds. Your other option for a 1 stop shop is the rode video mic go. That little guy is a beast.

Best video I've seen on this mic - better than channels way bigger. Nice work man 👌

I used 2 cotton pads made a hole and place the front part of the mic in one and the rear part in the other then put the dead cat on. It flattens the sound out a bit cuts out a bit of the high frequencies which inturn makes the low end seem more bright. Makes it sound like an even more expensive microphone. They did not use much material and the type of materal needs "deadening" . Out the box it has a hollow sound and amplifies the echo sounds in a large space. With the mod I've done fixes that to a degree making it more pleasant to work with breaking the harshness up a bit

@@daltonlsw I watched the video and bought the Sony mic straight after! I do a lot of filming outside and my Sony cam doesn’t have an input Jack so this is perfect.

@@TheSlowworms Your Sony cam has a multi-interface shoe, correct? Hopefully, your camera is compatible, Sony's website doesn't have a good way to find the compatibility and even the FX3 isn't uploaded to this list support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/www/cscs/accessories/?mdl=ECM-G1&area=gwt&lang=en_US

Since you have a deep bassy voice, you need to avoid anything Rode. Everything they make elevates the bass a ton. Except maybe just Video Micro/Go II, those tiny capsules sound tinny. Otherwise, all bass, no treble sparkle. You will sound nice with Sennheiser mics those are more balanced.

As the family photo/video guy, I gotta go with the g1. My 6400's mic is TERRIBLE ! Ok, I like the size on my camera, and the automatic sound, works VERY well. Got mine for 120 USD. Your video is informative, and fair. Thank-you!

I have the M50 with a 11-22mm lens for the rode videomic pro plus. such a great combo for sit down videos and vlogging.

That sounds like a very nice and compact setup and easy to travel around with!

Thanks for the comparison, was just the video I searched on RU-vid for. However, the real question is: Did Lenny's lip get ripped off today?

Haha his lip survived this track day 😂

after putting on ECM-G1, do I need to turn on any setting? or does it work right away without doing anything? thanks
@daltonlsw
@daltonlsw Год назад
It should turn on right away as soon as you connect it. I know when it's on because the microphone input gain controls are disabled and I can't manually select the volume level for the microphone as you normally can do with 3.5mm microphones
@BasicallyBosco
@BasicallyBosco Год назад
@@daltonlsw I was told that to the camera's mic input does allows manual level control via connected with a cable (instead of directly via hotshoe). Is this true? EDIT: NVM. I heard it in your video! Thanks for the review! I totally missed it the first time around haha

How would I mount an LED light if this is on the hot shoe? Im new to all this! 🥹😊
@daltonlsw
@daltonlsw Год назад
You’d probably have to pick up a camera cage or something that gives you additional mounts, but if it secures to the Sony hot shoe mount, you’d lose out on that feature with the Sony microphone.
