I picked up a Sony ECM-LV1 lavalier microphone after being dissatisfied with my budget lavs. The ECMLV1 has some cool features including an omnidirectional stereo pickup, a thin foam screen, and a twistable tie clip. Frequency response is listed as 50 Hz to 15 kHz, so this lav mic will capture more sound than you'll ever need. The TRS minijack cord seems to be a point of contention with many filmmakers, since it's only 1 meter or about 39 inches long. For use with a wireless lav system, that's optimal because you won't need a long cable that you'd have to tuck away somewhere. I rigged a dead kitten for a wireless sound test outdoors on a really windy day and was impressed with the ECM-LV1's performance. Listen for yourself! For $30, I think it sounds better than my Rode.
