WHAT UP YALL! I want to take a moment to send my condolences to all the families affected by yesterdays tragedy. I don't even feel right uploading this right now...but I still gotta do my job. Great points, Terry. I have an R6. Love it - but I'm more a Canon shooter by habit now. You're right about the glass options. However, if you can afford the RF glass that's all you'll ever ever want to use. The autofocus and stabilization are life-changing.

very fair coverage of the Canon system. kudos! I feel that Canon takes care of the little details that never get covered by the media because people like to do apples to apples comparisons, but Canon tries to add features that separate them from the crowd. I don't have personal experience with the R6 but I do own the R5 which is a beast. I take the R5 everywhere. People say the best camera is the camera that you have on you. Well, I always have the R5 on me. Yes, even restaurants. That's how much I love my R5. So when I'm at a restaurant, I set the camera to touchscreen shutter and I hand over the camera to the waiter. He looks all funny, wondering how to use it. I say, "Just tap the screen like a smartphone". And boom, picture taken. And I can instantly send it to my phone and share with my friends or onto social media. The Canon touchscreen is just as good as any smartphone touchscreen so anyone that knows how to use pinch to zoom, tap to focus, etc. will feel right at home on the Canon. That kind of stuff doesn't get covered. The touch and drag AF system is just plain awesome. It's something that never gets demonstrated on RU-vid because it's impossible to record because to use the touch and drag system, you have to put your eye to the viewfinder and as far as I know, the no HDMI output will record when your eye is to the EVF. Some people hear how it works and think, oh, Olympus has that. but no other camera system does it the same way. Also, the R3 has the new eye-controlled AF where you just look where you want to focus and it focuses and this system is sick! Let's say you have 3 guys sprinting toward the finish line and you want to focus and photograph each runner. You only have 11 seconds to photograph them before the race is done. So on most cameras, you have to balance focus (pick an aperture where all of them are sharp) because you don't have time to focus individually on each person. But on the R3, you can have individual focus on each one at wide aperture and still have time before the race is over. It's next level once you get used to how it works. As for the native glass, yes, Canon is behind in terms of sheer numbers. But what native glass they have is bonkers. There is no Sony lens like the 28-70 f2. And there are cheap third-party glass, but it's not where it needs to be. For example, a lot of people swear by the Rokinon/Samyang 85 mm 1.4 which is so much cheaper than the Canon RF 1.2 or 1.8. But this is going to fixed over time. Canon is such a market force that lenses will come fast and hard. But the adapter is always there and it's so good. Old EF glass works better on the R series than they ever worked on older Canon cameras. The color science is a funny thing. I never understood the whole "Canon color science is amazing" thing UNTIL I tried native camera profiles in Lightroom. Before, I thought, "raw is raw." I thought camera profiles were just like presets but they're nothing like presets! The first time I set Lightroom to Camera Standard and then started to edit the image... OH MY GOD. My photos went to next level. Then, I understood why Canon fans raved about Canon colors. I had always previously edited in Adobe Color because I didn't know about camera profiles. And editing in Adobe Color, you can still get great pictures but you can't replicate Camera Standard or any of the other Camera profiles. I actually tried! I started at both Camera Standard and Adobe Color and tried to end at the same destination and it's pretty impossible. You end up with a certain look with Camera Standard and a certain look with Adobe Color.
@XxFZLxX
@XxFZLxX 2 года назад
Where is the Camera profiles for the R5 in Lightroom?! Is it under browse, camera matching with the 6 options (standard, neutral, landscape etc)?
@onlysublime
@onlysublime 2 года назад
@@XxFZLxX yes, those are the profiles that match your camera (if you have an R5 for example). start with any of the camera matching profiles and edit from there. at first, there's an adjustment if you've always edited from Adobe Color. at first, it was a little hard to edit because I was just so used to adobe color. but the results are so much better if you start from one of the canon matching profiles.

@alanm.4298
@alanm.4298 2 года назад
Hey, this is a great comparison and much of it sounds right on. This is coming from an admitted Canon fanboy with very little Sony experience, but here goes... You are right that Canon doesn't yet have a huge selection of RF glass, but that is because the R system is only 3 years old. What is the Sony e-mount? 9 or 10 years old? You are right, too, that some RF glass is expensive. But Canon even with a modest number of lenses (around 28 so far) Canon has done a pretty good job covering everything from ultra wide to super telephoto (much better than Nikon has with their Z mount, which is also only 3 years old)). They also do have a few carefully positioned, more affordable lenses. Canon promises to approx. double the number of RF lenses in the next 2 or 3 years. Canon has been quite innovative with their RF lenses, but has yet to see much 3rd party support. There are a fair number of fully manual 3rd party lenses out for RF mount, but only four autofocus at this time (two Viltrox and two Samyang/Rokinon, if I recall correctly). I find it interesting that the "big three" 3rd party lens makers... Sigma, Tamron and Tokina.... haven't rolled anything out yet. Regarding adapting EF glass... There are upwards of 125 million Canon lenses in that old mount that most users say work better than ever when adapted... And some of them are wonderful lenses, well worth considering. There may be issues adapting a 3rd party EF mount lens onto an R series. With some of the newer ones, manufacturers have stepped up to fix the problem, but older 3rd party may not work well. Incidentally, EF glass also can be adapted for use on Sony e-mount, but there is some loss of AF performance. Finally, FYI Canon now has APS-C cameras in the R system too: R10 and R7. The latter costs only $100 more than the Sony a6600 and is loaded with high performance features. Canon has so far only come out with two crop specific lenses (pretty basic RF-S 18-45mm and 18-150mm), but I expect we'll see more in the coming years. I also expect Canon will be offering cinema cameras with RF mount, if they aren't already doing so. They have recwntly intro'd a video oriented R5c, a variant of the R6's 45MP "big brother" the biggest difference being added cooling. Cheers and thanks for the interesting comparison. There really are some great cameras being made today, by Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Oly, Panasonic and everyone else! Pentax is staying "old school" with only DSLRs, and I hipe does well with them (they also make some great medium format).

@@luxuriousfir there's probably something wrong with your camera if the images are fuzzy. I've used just about every camera out there since I picked up one in 1984 when I was a kid. The R5 and R6 may look very similar, but the former has a much higher build quality. I own an R5 and when I picked up an R6 in the shop, I could feel the difference immediately. As for the viewfinder, the A7S III's should be huge compared to the R6? When it comes to the lens ecosystem, I think the RF will have third party support within a year or two. Sony has long been criticised for its shallow selection of native lenses and weak third-party manufacturer support. But since 2018, it's been an endless avalanche of new lenses.

I’ve used the android and apple comparison for years when comparing Canon to Sony and Nikon. Canon just works. It’s almost dummy proof, which works well for all users. I own Canon, Sony, and Nikon and I use Canon the least. For everyday use, It’s just hard to match the customization of the buttons and the lens options of the Sony. And until recently, Sony and Nikon always had the best dynamic range which always came in hand in post for me when shooting natural light. I’ve also always preferred the files for Nikon raw images over the rest, which explains why I still pick up my Nikon bodies over my Canons. Nice video as always bro.

One big plus for Sony is the custom hold shoot sets. You can assign about a dozen settings to a single button on the back. You can be in manual mode and hold down one button and it will switch you to aperture priority with about a dozen other settings that you've pre adjusted. You can hold down a different back button and suddenly switch to shutter property with a bunch of settings to go with that. Canon cannot do that yet.

From my perspective, I was a Nikon shooter for 10 years and after having a z6ii but wanting to change to something that allowed for 10 bit video, I tested both of these cameras, and for me the Sony is definitely the best one. The reason being is that you can do whatever you want whenever you want. Sounds silly but the r6 and r5 force you to look at the screen to change almost anything. Sony you can set it forget it lol, takes a lot of the stress out of shooting when you have a camera like that. Also Sony uses terminology that is consistent throughout the camera world. servo is not a word used anywhere but canon lol. The last comment I’ll make is that Sony has been introducing future proof tech for a long time. Things like the 50 1.2 on Sony will be a better investment than the 50 1.2 on canon because of the lens’s focus system, linear motors are the future and if I spend $2k on a prime lens that element better not be moving forward and back like a dslr lens from 2007 lol. These are my personal opinions, but I did a lot of research before buying my camera, and the a7iv is easily the best camera out in that price range and Sony’s glass is secretly better than canon’s rf glass. lol hate it if you want but please look up comparison videos Sony is just eating competition right now.

Finally found a review that is pure honesty ! I have both sony and canon. A7iii with 35mm Gmaster and Canon R6 with 28-70 f2 ! As a automotive photographer , both cameras are goods in stills . Except my r6 beats my a7iii coz of the vehicle tracking. IK theres some subject trackings but i found my r6 is pretty solid on Rolling shots ! Planning to upgrade my a7iii to a7iv as well! thanks you deserve more subs and likes !

Thankyou to make best video compare sony and canon. 200mm f2.0 is very different with 70-200 f2.8, and sony and third party lens dont have this lens. Canon rf lens have image stabilation like 15-35mm, 24-70mm, and 24-105mm f2.8, and sony lens dont have image stabilation. This makes me hestitate to choose sony.

Definately a Fanboys opinion... Breaking down the not so good video setting capabilities to "you cant customize Canon that good".... The R6 is still more or less mainly for photos, not video. For video you have anyways much better cameras aviable than DSLRs/Mirrorless... If you would get into the software a bit more you would pretty much understand every decision canon made on R5/R6. I tried it and its AWESOME. Especially if you cry already at R5/R6 software/UI... you better dont look down to the affordable Canons like the RP.... this is literally an AWESOME CAMERA... but totally crippled/limited by software (to force customers to the better, more expensive options)

I have an R5, a7iv, and Leica SL2s and Sony wins by far when looking at image quality, usability, AF, etc. when considering size to weight ratio. The Sony 50mm f1.4 is practically the size of my Sigma 50mm f2 lens.

As a fellow RU-vidr, although for different topics, mine is more based on audio, I think you did an outstanding job presenting this. When I first got into this, I got a Canon EOSR and a Sony A7iii at the same time. I was torn from day one. The way you described this, is the exact way I felt trying to figure out which direction I was going to go. I actually preferred the Canon user experience, but ended up committing to Sony based upon the lack of lens selection for the a R-mount. If a person knows they are going to go strictly to either a GM lens for Sony, or an R-mount lens for Canon, I definitely recommend Canon over Sony. That said, the fact that Sigma and Tamron are making incredible lenses at a much more affordable prices these days that can compete with Sony and Canon glass, that gives the edge to Sony for me.

this is pointless, single point AF-S/AF-A for photography is main issue on A7III/A7IV compared to Nikon Z6/D750/Canon R6 Colors are individual, in this comparisson I liked more Sony colors.

Sony color science is more accurate than Canon color science. And Sony have more glass options. Made the switch last 3 years from Nikon, Canon, Fuji, Panasonic, PhaseOne, Leica, Olympus, Pentax, Hasselblad and never regret it!

I've been doing real estate photography for the past 4 years. I'm shooting with a Canon 6D Mark II my lens is an ef17 - 44 mm. I feel like I've hit a wall. I'm so frustrated with my setup. Photos are kind of fuzzy. Doesn't do very good in low light. Color balance is always off. Anyone out there got any recommendations? I want my shots to be tax sharp and brilliant. I use a tripod, I use a trigger and I use two flashes. I feel like my camera and glass are my week link now.

Sony always look good in spec sheet, from day one. Canon invites you to hold it, play with it. Once you are out there, it get out of the way and let you shoot. I don’t get that with Sony. You wouldn’t go wrong with anyone of them though.

Really nice and fair review well done , I chose canon before Sony cause I only shoot still and love the rf and ef glass to. Sure more people wish they where more lenses but they have what I need . Yes it’s bad they don’t support third party lenses but they didn’t do it with Ef either so I’m sure Sigma and tamron will start to produce soon

I agree with most of your points. I when with the canon R6 after my a7iii. My issues with the same. The r6 felt better and the rear LCD was amazing. I loved the ability to change settings on the screen. What I hated was the lack of video customized buttons for video, it overheated often, 30 min record limit. I felt the r6 was a great photo camera but not a true hybrid camera. I will say the Sony colors are way better than the canon mirrorless colors. Canon DSLR are amazing. I sold the r6 and I love the a7iv. It checks all the boxes for me.

I'm using the R5 sister A7IV brother Z9, If I was a new shooter I would go canon easily, menus are super easy to use. Dollar wise I go Sony because of the third part lens, if can afford the Triny I go Canon, that 2.8 combo and color science is hard to beat. Wildlife I go Canon unless you going to splurge for that A1, and even then the animal eye is better on the Canon. Nikon hmm still playing with the new updates we will see. Video wise no Idea the only time I use it is for home vids of the kids nothing professional Think we are at the stage now that whatever you started with Canon/Sony it's not going to matter, you probably aren't going to switch, too much time invested in learning the system and too much glass to swap for to get very little gain until the next version comes out. Compared to 20-30 years ago man you can't go wrong with either system. Everything is more expensive, but hey try buying a candy bar for 50 cents LOL.

Most of my R6 buttons are customizable, you can set them up in the menus bro.... Like 70-80% of the buttons are customizable.... which serves almost every body's needs ... maybe if you want to change the play and delete button which i dont understand why anybody would ever want to there's plenty customizability on canon

Canon has the Samyang 85mm RF. Your point about not wanting to adopt EF lenses is silly/ I have been doing it since the EOS R came out. This obviously reflects your lack of experience with Canon Lenses on an RF mount. There are far more lenses that work with Canon RF cameras when adapting EF lenses which work perfectly on RF glass.

My man, you want to go ahead an shift that image comparison and opinion right up at the front of the video. The other opinions are still good, but the IQ is what I need to know off top before deciding on workflows and ergonomics. But either way, I am surprised that the Sony is so hot at 4800k. Their kelvin scale must be way off.

The photographer should also consider their personality in terms of updating gear, wanting the latest and greatest, and how long they keep using "older" gear. The easiest way to figure this out is to consider one's mobile phone upgrade history: every 1-2 years or every 3-5 years. For the more frequent buyer, Sony is definitely the company for you. For the more gradual upgrader, Canon makes more sense, especially with their consistent history with the 5D [2004, 2008, 2012, 2016]. Four to five years from now [Jan 1, 2027], it seems likely that the current models will be the A7VI and the R6-II, two models newer for the Sony and one for the Canon.

Correct the DSLR or mirrorless cameras ard for the last 5-6 years improved so much that it is very impressive because of mobile phone cameras everyone became a shooter a catcher of moment not photographer. 4-5mb shots became an ordinary even kids 10 years old catch a moment but artistic creativity is totally needs huge dedication stock photo shoot is for amateur hobbiests.
