Thank you for more practical review as you review showing examples. It will be more engaging and interesting if you can review on a field trip as no one seems to do that. I am torn between buying this lens and replacing my 16-35 f4, and Voigtlander 15mm. It should be perfect to have this lens, 24-70 GM, and 70-200 f4. But, want to wait for cheaper filter options. I have Sony apps and I believe those should cover 95% of my needs but the occasional 10+ ND and the need for CP filter are making it hard for me to decide.

I have considered doing these reviews on location but I would have had to lug two cameras and two tripods + audio gear - and I probably wouldn't enjoy it - which sort of defeats the purpose. As it is I had to get off the beach in total darkness up a cliff with my kit. Extra gear might have just been the death of me. Maybe someone younger can take this one on or someone who can afford to employ a video guy ;-)

Hey man, Can you help me making decision between zeis 16-35f4 and 2.8 gm lens. i am using a7rii and heard that gm lens will utilise more of my high megapixel body. Is that true? or is it just fine getting the zeis and the does the picture quality produce by zeis is good enough compared to how pricey the gm lens is. Thank you

Hi, Mark, I am interested in the 12-24mm lens for interior and architecture photography. Do you have any raw files of interior shot with this lens? The landscape raw files are not good sample files to test for distortion. Need to check out the verticals. Thanks

Can this lens possible to use on apsc? This 12-24 (16-35 equivalent) can be a good lens also for a6series. Combination of 10-18f4, 18-104f4 and 12-24f4.

All E-Mount lenses are interchangeable between Full Frame and APS-C

I personally would use prime lenses with wider apertures.

I didn’t like the corner distortion on the Voigtlander 10mm. 12mm is plenty wide enough for me.

Hey Mark, how's about the lens flares at 14 or 12 mm while using ND filter with nisi e g. and shooting directly into the sun in the evening down to the sea? I heard the flares looks ugly?

it look like a lens bigger than body , do it has balance body & lens in handgrip ?

Although it looks like it is a physically big lens it is not that heavy. The balance is very good.

Dear Buckley - There is a link in the info section to a gallery of full size images with links to the Raw images. I can tell you there is no barrel distortion at 12mm or you can simply download the files and see for yourself 😀

Curious, filter.. which one do you like? 3-10 stops?

I will use the one that suits the level of ambient light. 10 stops for before or just after sunset/sunrise. 3 stops in twilight conditions where 10 stops would be too dark.

I don't have any links for filters. The latest filters I am using were delivered to me by NiSi.

If the filters are 150mm wide then they might fit in the NiSi filter holder.

The cages that attach to the fixed lens hoods of these ultra wide angle lenses tend to be manufactured to fit a single or limited range of lenses.

I would imagine Sony lenses designed for shooting movies would be the ones to choose. e.g. Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS Lens

Would be nice to have a brighter 12mm lens for aurora photography. This one simply will not do. My lens to go for that is Samyang 14mm 2.8. Nothing from Sony actually competing to the quality and prise of that lens, but I keep hoping. :)

Jón Steinar - I am sure Sony are working on its wide prime as I type. Sony have recently added the 24mm f/1.4 prime so it is not a question of if, just when, Sony will release its ultra wide angle prime.

Thanks for your assurance. I hold on to my faith also though I doubt it will be as affordable as a korean lens. :) It is definently a market for a bright wide angle pime for aurora and astro photography. I live in the mecca of aurora photograpy here in nortern Iceland and would buy such a lens, G or Zeiss as soon as it comes out.
