I have R5 with RF Lenses and just got the R7 for B camera and I COULDN'T be happier. The video quality is simply amazing and it matches perfectly with the R5. On top of all that, the auto-focus in R7 is mind-blowing and the picture quality is TOP. This comment is coming from a Canon shooter, greetings!

You mentioned in a polite way that most of the reviews of the FX 30 are mostly marketing and any possible negative feature would not be disclosed. I was surprised that they didn’t send the camera to DP Review or Gordon from Camera Labs

if you want a technical review then Gerald Undone can give you it, I shoot canon c100 mk2 on daily basis for interviews and can see the potential of the FX30 for these kind of work plus you can run and gun with cheap third party lenses and autofocus. As for canon R7... when was the last time canon released a decent apsc lens?

I have the R7 but ordered the FX30 for a "video" camera. The video from the R7 is incredible and when I need a hybrid camera that or the R5 will go with me. For video only I plan to use the FX3. I am lucky enough to have a big camera budget, if I had to choose one I would go with the R7 since I shoot lots of wildlife photography as well as video. Cheers and thanks for the video.

I’m going to take the unpopular opinion that Sony underwhelmed this time around. Canon never branded the R7 as a cinema camera. I think the more fair comparisons should be against the xh2 and even a BMPCC 6K. Also, I agree that Sony does listen to their customers. But I’ve heard content creators for over a year ask for shutter angle, wave forms and false color on the FX3. They had an opportunity to add all that this time around. Is this a capable camera, of course it is. Hell, I want one lol. I’m going to wait for folks to use this device for everyday situations first. It’s way to easy to get caught up in all the hype surrounding the release.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I totally agree about shutter angle, wave forms and false color! I also agree that the R7 is not branded as a video camera, but they both create great 4K images at a similar price point. A lot of creators are just trying to get a decent video camera under $2000. I'll be curious when I can actually compare them. Lots of hype though for sure!

There are no mirrorless cameras that offer those features, blaming it on the FX30 is mean.

The Canon R5C does have those features. I think his point is that Sony says they are listening to creators and we have all been asking for those things, but they don't put them in there. The R5C is a "cinema camera" as is the FX30 by their company's branding. Both mirrorless cameras.

Easily FX30 due to the vast lens selections, no adapter BS and APSC lenses are usually much cheaper than their FF counterparts. Canon pushed away many potential customers by closing the door to third part lens manufacturers.

Hello there for the Canon R7 I already have the sigma 18-35mm and works like a charm, I am planing to get the sigma 50-100 f1.8 and the tokina ATX-i 11-20mm f/2.8 CF for canon for wide angle. I think for videos and photos those are the only lenses I 'm going to need that pare with the small rig cage, drop ND filter adapter, and the tascam XLR I will have a pretty good and modest A system for video.

Canon said they are no longer allowing 3rd party lenses. Not everybody will have access to new non Canon autofocus lenses.

@@daniellove162 The 3rd party lenses were never allowed, they were unauthorized reverse engineered products. Canon has said that they would approve 3rd parties at some point to manufacture the RF mount.

So torn. I have a background with Canon cameras, but shoot on an FX3 at work which I love. I'm looking for an "at home" camera which will mainly be used on outings and vacations with my kids for both video and photo. I think I will have to go with the R7 with an EF adapter due to my photo needs, as well as the fact I already have some good EF mount lenses like the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8. It pains me because I have been so happy with the video quality and reliable from Sony.

Tbh, I'm still doing my hybrid photo / video stuff on the basic a7iii. Has huge limitations, has recording limits and overheats at some point, but in general I get my stuff done really good, while being fullframe and having 1k more to spare on lenses. Depending on the shooting conditions it can be more than reliable enough for a b-cam at a really good price.

My choice dilemma was between FX30 and X-H2S. Two years ago I was deciding what ecosystem to invest in, and chose Fuji. I would probably add FX30 to my inventory for videowork, but price of getting a completely new lens lineup and price of CFE Type B (compared to Type A) is why I still can’t switch to Sony ecosystem. FX30 seems to be a good tool, especially if it is based of FX3

You won’t be disappointed with the XH2s at all. It’s amazing. If you’re staying APS-C I think you’re gonna love the Fuji.

I have both sony and fuji system as hybrid shooter, and if you dont need FF or sticky autofocus then fuji with their f1.4 glass would save you tons of money and most people wont see the difference anyways. "Once you see it, you cant unsee it"

One is a video camera, the other a hybrid camera. Buy the video camera if you do video, buy the hybrid camera if you do hybrid. There you go Why would you make this apples to oranges comparison?

I have an a6500 with a lot of apcs lenses my fx30 came in yesterday and it was worth it . I shoot music videos for artist now I don’t have to rent reds no more a sigma 1.4 is a deadly combo with fx30 It’s unreal 🤯🤯🤯 the footage looks like I could film a marvel movie with it .

so they've been using the same apsc sensor since like a6300 (2016), right? and now, after maybe 6 years, they've switched to a sensor that is probably from xt3 2018, so still old sensor? if they keep this on their new apsc line (presuming they'll develop one soon), i think it's kind of a disappointment. rolling shutter is better, sure (although a7iv in apsc has 13ms vs this 15ms+), but that dynamic range is not quite acceptable in 2022 (especially in a so-called cinema camera) and probably (if they include it in new cameras) they'll use it til 2027 or so, which is not ok, imo..

It depends on what lenses you need, your budget and what other cameras you use. Good thing about buying full frame lenses is you are all set if you upgrade.

It's amazing how technology is going backwards. Instead of putting this sensor in a camcoder body like the AX700 with removable lens, just like they did 10 years ago with the model VG-30 . They are giving to us very uncomfortable product without a viewfinder. The sony codecs are the best, but not for your PC, don't forget the extra 1000€ for a GPU, or the 1000€ for an external recorder if you want ProRes. It has to be very fun to work 12 h a day, running around with this thing in your hand but the fun is double if you add and external monitor, xlr addapter Well done Sony and all the youtube gear society additcs...

All depends on your work. I'm in Canon eco system so R7 makes more sense for my needs. It's also 1.000 Euro less. Nevertheless, Sony are good and many folks using them for various needs. All depends on you and with what are you currently working with.

@@Josh_Sattin I'm facing this case because my R7 ordered a several weeks ago it's still in the delivery, due to the out of stock issue. Within this, I was considering canceling my order and grabbing Sony FX30. Nevertheless, I work with EOS R and Ninja V, and just need another Canon camera to fit my workflow without extra post production hustle. On top of it, most of my lenses are also Canon mount. Sony are good, but do not work for me at this point for my hybrid work with photography and video during weddings. If I would switch to Sony, I would need to get another Sony camera, which will cost me much more. For my needs Canon it's very useful, and provide a reasonable image for clients. If I need to be be more creative I also have my GH5 which is timeless with 6K open gate video in H.265.

I preordered FX30 too. This thing is going to be sold out for awhile given the price/value equation. I’m debating buying the 11/1.8 before I even get fx30 because I think there will be a run on aps-c glass once Sony launches all these new aps-c models.

I ordered the fx30 from Sony electronics Saturday because they had a deal 1,643 no tax . I had to get it even though I was going to buy it later , it came yesterday. I have an a6500 with a bunch of apsc lenses when I get a job for a music video shoot I rent a red from cameras plus . I tested the footage of the fx30 with my sigma 30 mm 1.4 and 16mm 1.4 and I get quality on par with the red that I rent .

It have less dinamic range because the pixels are smaller. Sensor size not important.. the fx3 is 12mpx and full frame and the fx30 is 26mpx and apsc. So the pixels are smaller. Red has smaller pixel rate too so every pixel is bigger.. by the way the R7 has less dinamic range..

Doesn’t the R7 have a reused sensor from the 90D? Sony went video first with this one but will probably release a more hybrid design with this sensor that would be more direct competition to R7. I’ll be patient because I’d like this FX30 with a little more hybrid usability. R7 has too many video spec cripples and the lens monopoly is cold blooded.

I originally thought it had the same sensor from the 90D but I watched an interview with someone from Canon and they said it was a a new sensor, not out of the 90D.

The bad IBIS and rolling shutter performance in combination on the FX30 is a dealbreaker for me when compared to the r7 (on the r7 the good IBIS compensates for the bad rolling shutter performance) If you don't do camera movement, the FX30 is better.

Canon r7 is better for me, I have ef lenses and I work with 2.5k and 1080, Rolling shutter in 4k non fine mode is better than fx30

If you can get a FX3 for $2000 I would definitely prefer a FX3 over an FX30. That is way under market value for a used FX3.

No, Sony does NOT LISTEN to professionals or creators, no focus mapping or breathing compensation on the FX3? or the A1, A7SIII... how many people have been wanting this on more expensive cameras and they've not delivered ? no Shutter Angle ? how long have we been waiting on a "Cinema" line camera for a basic feature like that, NO DCI 4K, I could name even more stuff but whatever, I personally think its a Good camera, the quality is pretty good, some features are nice and I've preordered it but it lacks MANY features and Sony is Stubborn and wont deliver.

I hear your frustration! I still don't get why they don't put those features in the A7S3 or FX3. Any why no focus breathing compensation on the A1 for that matter?!? Either way, this is a great price for a camera with these features.
