Thanks for sharing your experience. I just learned about the Z150 today, but I could not understand the difference between it and the Z100... Thanks big time. Here are the funny things... I was looking for a suitable replacement for my Z5U. It is nothing wrong with it. I still shoot with it, but I wanted to upgrade to 4k. The first thing that I had to get comfortable losing was my 20x optical zoom, buuuuut that is not the only thing. My understanding of the z150 is that it shoots 4k at 30fps, but I wanted to shoot at 60 like I do with my Z5u...lol....I will still likely get the Z150, but I am going to wait for that price to drop more. Thanks again for sharing your experience.
Hi Peter, Thanks for your review of the Sony Z150. As always, a very good and helpful review. I wonder if you would mind doing a comparison review between the Sony NX5R, the Sony Z150, and the Sony Z90V. I am particularly interested in knowing how each camera performs in picture quality… particularly in low light. Also in knowing how the NX5R does with its 3 1/2.8 sensor chips compared with the 1” chips on the Z150, and the Z90. It seems to me that the NX5R and Z150, would have the advantage over the Z90, with dedicated rings for aperture, focus, and zoom, but on the other hand, if you don’t use manual aperture, focus or zoom, perhaps that doesn’t matter as much. Perhaps the auto focus on the Z90 is so good, that you don’t need manual focus. I wonder what the other differences are between the Z150 and the Z90. Do they both record to the same codex(es), and record at the same bit rates, or does one have an advantage over the other. I believe that the Z150, costs about US$500.00 more than the Z90. What benefits do you get for that extra $500.00? Thanks very much for your help with this! Steve L.
Great review. You made the Z-100 look great until you mentioned the low light performance of the smaller sensor. wish the would have kept the optical zoom and the 4:2:2 in 4K.
hi there I got sony pxw z 150 I shoot in 4k for 3 hours at high resolution on my computer I couldn't open them because all in mxf files and I got adobe premiere cs6 please help
What do you think between the pxw 150 vs pxw 70 starting to get anxiety between which one need to make a choice soon that wifi livestream can go along way so confused
The image is almost identical between the two. The 150 has more convenience in buttons/menu options on the outside of the camera instead of having to dig into the menus of the X70. 150 is bigger with more professional options but image-wise they're nearly identical.
Hello, I write from Lima Peru . I am a freelance cameraman and currently am about to change my Panasonic AG AC90 . I am very interested PXW X70 , Z150 PXW UX180 and UX90 AG ( although not yet know many details ) . And doubt among invest in a Panasonic DVX200 . I think black magic purchase a switcher capable 4K presentation in theaters. The main problem I have is that you can not carry much equipment for safety and are generally few places where there is good lighting requiring a good LED light mounted on the camera. I would like your advice because I help a lot. Thank you for your time and congratulations for your work.
*Why sony is crap? After the EPIC FAIL launch of the Z100 with one of the best codecs Sony have (used by sony F55), the XVAC 4:2:2 10-bit intra frame and 4K video at a maximum bit rate of 600Mbps!! With the worst sensor EVER a 1/2.3 type. Now they screw up again, they give 1inch sensor but a BIG BUT crapy bitrate, max 100Mbps at 4K? My HPX250 do 100Mbps 10bit 4.2.2 internal for HD, yes HD... and Sony only 50Mbps HD 4.2.2 8bit and 4K only 100Mbps? Sony is really a fucking joke!
