Sony RX100 VI Problems 

Sony will have a fix, they’ll make you buy a new RX100 VII for $1600. That’s Sony for you.

The EVF, no problem at all... it only a MINOR inconvenience, no reason to keep fretting over it for 50% of the video. The HDR standard.... also not really an issue unless you have got a really fast internet upload speed. To minor issues made big issues. What I dont like about the RX100 VI is that the V version is better for macro photography.

In a forum I read that using a „soft lift“ technique when releasing the EVF, this problem will not occur, that is, place the index finger of your right hand on the top of the EVF, then release the EVF, then let the EVF rise slowly into position by reducing the force from your right index finger. I don‘t own the RX100 vi, so I am not speaking from experience : I am only passing on the tip.

Does the Diopter NOT MOVE if one "softens" the pop-up action of the EVF? eg. by putting a finger on top of the EVF when it comes out & partially stopping it reach its max extension...

Why not just cushion the EVF with your finger as it expanses up, so that there is obviously not a vibration at impact, which seems to be the main reason for the effecting of the sliding over to the left of the diopter lever? Obviously not optimum, but perhaps a valid work-around.

Just bought a M6 and this problem has been resolved. At the very least on mine.

I find it amusing people jump all over Sony about a minor problem. It is annoying but not critical. There are solutions enable you to bypass problem (eg: marking with a felt pen where the switch should be). And yes, it is an EXPENSIVE piece of equipment but nothing is perfect. I used to have a Canon S100 compact camera, which was about the same size as the RX100, there was a major manufacture defect that the shutter will not activate. It was a known problem and Canon issued a recall. I returned it to an authorized Canon repairer for repair. Six months late, the same problem returned, I tried to return to the same repair shop for another free repair but was declined. Do you still think Sony's problem is still a major problem?

Glad to see it wasn't just me. Thought I was losing my eye sight. 'Glad?' Not really, and for the price point for that camera - I agree it does not leave a good impression. As a work-around I put a small red line with a Sharpie to mark the optimum point for me. The rest of the cam - I'm liking so far with about a month of shooting in.

Would it be possible for the user to dampen the ejection of the view finder, by use of holding a finger on its top, as the view finder switch is activated? Then the view finder could be let up slowly, so hopefully the diopter adjustment wouldn't be jarred. Still an unwanted hassle of course, but maybe it could become second nature in handling the camera.

The dioptre on my RX100 VI seems absolutely fine.

That IS a major flaw for me. W e’ll see what Sony will do to solve this problem.

Thanks for the review. Re: hybrid log gamma (HLG) / high dynamic range (HDR) issue, is there a workaround, i.e. some video editing work or conversion to make it so youtube will recognize it as HDR, or is it really only useful if you present on a Sony TV and that's it? Thanks!

The diopter adjuster problem is much much worse on my Mk3. As soon as I set the lever to 3 O'Clock, it starts to creep back. I have to adjust it for every photo. My Mk6 doesn't creep while I'm loohing at it.

I just got this camera and I only have 25, 50 and 100 fps available. How can I get 30, 60 and 120 fps?? THANKS!

My RX100 VI diopter does exactly the same thing!! The diopter mechanism should have clicks instead of a smooth mechanism operation of the diopter adjustment.

Thanks for the lengthy video. My problem seems much more severe to me. The viewfinder does NOT WORK after it properly poped out. The LCD turns OFF upon approching the viewfinder (correct), but the viewfinder is not turning on - stays. The finder is fully out. Since then I have that the error E:91:01 is on the LCD permanently. That indicates an issue with the flash....

I think they all do it across the whole range my mark 4 does it. Not all the time maybe every 30 times you have to reset the eyesight. It takes like 2 seconds

I have an HX and put my finger over the pop up so as to avoid the sudden stop and vibration. I wonder if this would overcome the problem here?

I have noticed this with mine. It is a disadvantage. I just remember to check the diopter adjustment from time to time. There are compromises for a little camera.

I've bought 2, it's a very delicate camera but a fantastic one. It can't stand one drop, the lens will get stuck and won't work. Mine turns on but the lens won't move.

I just ordered this camera, does this mean that video shot on RX100 VI cannot be edited on video editor like Vegas Pro16? I'm new to video editing and I assumed that its MP4 video would be a standard format.

Even though I rarely use the viewfinder on the RX100, the problem is unacceptable on a $1,200 camera. On Friday, I told Sony Professional Support about the problem. They immediately said, “Sony is aware of the problem. You can have the viewfinder on your RX100 M6 repaired under warrantee.” The returned my RX100 M6 to Sony on Saturday for repair. Thanks. how to fix an e:91:01 error, something to do with its flash not functioning

Is this an issue with only the VI, or also with the V and the new VA versions?

Thanks for this video! I’ve read about this problem but wasn’t sure how prevalent it was. Now that it looks to be fairly prevalent I won’t be buying this camera because I use an EVF 90% of the time so it’s a deal breaker for me.

Rationally I dont think there will be a remedy or exchange programm. that mean sony will lost money...I Think you have to live with it and everytime to redial the dioptrie again... Most of the people will use the LCD, maybe sometimes the EVF....IN ALL IT WILL NOT pose a probleme for the functionality of the cameras...But for the future productionline. sony should fix it

My wife who mostly shoots off of the LCD probably won't care, but if I had my way, we would return as defective and buy something else. Of course, there is nothing quite like this camera to replace it with...

My RX100's diopter switch jigs around in the same manner. How can Sony let stuff like this slip through? Too proud to organize a pre-release consumer testing panel!!!

I have bought 3 RX100's the III , IV & the V each time the flash stops working after 2 years of use so I am NOT that happy with this camera ... I would LOVE to find a camera I can depend on ...so I now have 3 RX100's sitting here that I can not use :(

If you cushion the EVF lift with your finger does that prevent the diopter drift?

I have the camera I tried the thing with the EVF and it needs to be readjusted after popping it up the second time. I’m sure Sony will fix the issue in the $1400 RX100VII... I wish there was something similar and I wouldn’t have to buy Sony anymore.

Any possibility that a small strip of tape on the diopter lever offers enough resistance to prevent its movement? It doesn't excuse Sony's sloppiness, but it may be a remedy if someone doesn't want to go through the hassle of hoping Sony fixes it.

I would be happy if they removed the VF and made the camera a bit cheaper. I used my original sony RX 100 as a travel vlogging camera for years and I NEVER needed it.

What's also inexcusable is this is now the 6th iteration of this model and they've still not given us external microphone inputs. Their action cams have it, the RX10 has it, hell even the RXØ ii has it. It's disgusting actually that they ask $1,200 for this camera that doesn't have a microphone input.

Kind of nullifies the “convenience” of this newer evf vs the previous models. Ill stick with my Mark VA thank you.

I wonder if they've changed something inside (to make fixing these cameras easier). Just search and watch this video: "EEVblog 1428 - Sony RX100 IV Camera Repair and then WTF!" if you want to be "horrified" :)) Sorry I can't insert a link here, it's restricted by the settings for the video (I may guess). BTW, if Mark VI has the same casing as Mark IV then it's obviously not so robust as many reviewers tells us! It's a lot of thin and rigid plastic in the case. The outer metal "shell" is pretty thin. I'm sure now that having a good case (with dampers) is a "must have" for these little guys!

Using the EVF 100% Of the time. I leave it extended and turn camera on/off with the power button.

Better just not buy the Sony RX100 VI (mark6), the camera literally broke down after 1 year (flash broke down). Worse after sell service because only sony distribute part for sony camera, and the markup price just unreal, save up for another good camera like nikon, canon or fujifilm.

This is an annoying problem if using EVFs ...

Lack of bokeh. Sony should implement advance portrait mode for the camera.

This camera is too light. I was in Lao where it s all wet and street are only dirt with a mark 3. If I fall my camera would have been broken. So imagine now if I had a mark 6 at 1200 dollars. If I spend so much money in a camera it must be strong and resist rain and dirt.

Same with mine... hate it. Also, the lense closing is extremely slow. I hate this camera. I never shoot with the screen.

My new iPhone takes much better pictures, wish I never purchased.
