This one's a little bit different insofar as this is part 2 of 3 on the like new Sony SL-C7 Betamax. In this part we repair the capstan motor, change the key troublesome servo capacitors, sort the issue with the clock, change the capstan belt and get to playback a cassette with some amazing quality images.

Klüber Isoflex PDP 65 is a recommended type of sintered bearing oil. Thick enough to stay in the sintered bronze and thin enough to creep into it.

Here in the US I use a commonly available oil from 3 in 1. It is their electric motor oil in the blue bottle. It is 20W non detergent and it soaks into the bushings well.

That's a great recommendation. It is very expensive though but I'll get some and we'll see how we go.

That looks like a good option but I can't buy it in the UK - would have to import it from the UK or Australia having done a quick search.

@@MrBetaByte I'm looking where the oil is available for UK. As far as I know, the type designation PDP 65 should define the properties just like with car motor oil.

That's in great condition. I got excited when you first showed nice centred two pin tactile switches. Shame they weren't quite right. Can you share the link for the wrong ones - I've got a few I've been looking at trying from China and can cross those off my list. I've found it important to sit the switches as tight to the board as they'll fit so the button assembly works nicely once the top cover is screwed down nice and tight. Just working on my third C7 clock. Last one! Each one I've done has suffered much worse damage from the battery. I've ended up replacing all the ribbon cables, jumping the battery board all together where it's just a passthrough, or connecting to the less corroded top connections, where needed.

Will certainly share the info for those switches with you. The backup batteries are a real pain - part of the reason I in some ways prefer the C5 especially as you can modify them to restore colour for pause. Quite a marathon you took on there though and excellent you're getting these great machines back up and running.

I need to get my c7 sorted common faults but good heads ,my dad got it from a radio fair with the service manual and some tapes for £5 heads are good ..

That sounds like a great machine and get those faults sorted and the usual suspect capacitors changed and all will be good.
