@@gavmansworkshop5624 in order for the JBL to get that low you have to use low frequency mode which is dangerous because there’s no protection and it also sounds terribly flat at low volumes.
The Xtreme 2 has more bass but the XB43 bass is a lot tighter and better sounding to me. With the JBL you can really hear the plastic chassis resonating.
I think they are both good. I found the JBL had slightly more punch in the lower register whereas Sony was a little softer in the lows with a clearer higher register. It is very subtle and the difference to me can only be heard when the speakers are played under controlled conditions. The JBL has one definite advantage it has a carrying strap and for me, that is a bonus.
I bought the xb33 first, took it to work and couldn't hear it, but I loved it. I have to wear ear plugs and it's VERY loud at work. So I took it back and spent the extra money and got the xb43, and I'm glad I did. I also learned about LDAC, it's a whole different level of output. So needless to say, I can hear the xb43 in a loud environment with ear plugs in. I highly recommend both speakers.

I have an older Bose Soundlink and I wanted to get something better. After seeing this video and others, I decided to go with the Sony. I will tell you that the Sony has so much more depth (front to back) with the reverb as well as more top end providing a more open sound over the Bose. Of course the Sony is much larger, and heavier as well. Sony is stereo with a left right speakers, two tweeters and and the sub. I also like that the bluetooth option provides a higher quality connection LDAC, aptX HD codec. I turned off the annoying blinking lights. Sure that might be for when your in the dark or something, but it will take away from battery life. All in all I highly recommend. the Sony. With that said, based on the sound examples of the JBL, the JBL is nice as well, but I prefer the more open sound of the Sony. Thanks for the video.

@@NiqHowie I bought the rubber case from ebay and swapped the straps with stronger luggage ones and reinforced them with black cable ties. This means I can run downstairs without my speakers snapping off!😉😎 Yes, it's 3kg. And I don't mind the 6kg in stereo for the quality I get👍👍👍
at this level in the range, both offerings are looking pretty good. JBL is still offering good highs, though at this point the fact that they're still going with that "loudness" sound with boosted highs and lows starts to become unreasonable. While it works well with their smaller speakers, a speaker this size is getting plenty loud enough to go with a flatter sound and still be easily heard in louder environments. The Sony has taken the correct approach I think. The speakers are large enough now that the flatter sound that Sony seems to be going with throughout their product range really starts to pay off here. I think this is a win for Sony for the more accurate reproduction.

Sony made so much improvements this year! They can be the best at so many things at once; speakers, headphones, TV's, and surely, this year's coming consoles.
This is good because I've just ordered the XB43 I drive an old T600 Kenworth and I want to pump the music also when I got peeps in the crib I become the chef/DJ all in one go lol

Sony: epic lights, clear sound amazing, nfc, ip67, type c charge and modern design. Jbl: amazing sound too, ipx7, light weight, but not nfc and no type c charge for the price is bad for me, coming soon xtreme 3.... now sony is best in my opinion, i love my xb43 amazing sound, and premiun quality..
Nah Sony looks cheap as sh*t and the JBL looks profecional, u can get the pb100 for same price as Xtreme 2 now here in the Netherlands, but Xtreme 2 will always kill the Sony speakers

Fye Adrian jbl low frequency mode is does not make the bass better all it does is distort and disable the dsp thats all and plus it can break the speaker drivers or passive ratitors

Szekrénybe téve brutális mértékben megemelkedik a basszusuk, így ott abból még erdemes is kicsit visszább venni. :)
At 4:15 jbl volume is getting down when the bass come out from the drivers this is because they are too much boosted in very low frequency, while Sony is more open
I've used Sony xtra bass speakers from the srs xb21/31/41 then had the 32 and kept the 41, then I brought the 33s which were amazing but were no longer compatible with the older models in WPC so I brought a pair of 43s and they're amazing in stereo
These speakers can't produce 20hz though. It's a trick, a nice one but still. What they did is: use a 20 Hz but steep eq it and only keep the harmonics so it still sounds a little bit like 20 Hz but is actually the second (40 hz) and third harmonic (60 hz)etc. Now you know :)
This phenomenon is called harmonic distortion. No speaker in this size is capable of putting out 30hz at sufficient volumes, which is the reason they intentionally add harmonic distortion to make it sound deep

One tip that I can give is, If you don't like the sound of your speaker for whatever reason you can always download a third equalizer app: I have the sony SRS- XB22 I have an app that lets me increase or decrease the frequencies up to 7 bands , trust me I boosted some of the frequencies that my speaker sounds 10 times more louder jaja!!

I can agree that Jbl have some harsh treble, I have a pk7 and my mate has a charge 3 and 4 and when comparing them thr jbl sounded very treble and harsh
Danny i can confirm that this is true. You hear a lot of harmonic distortion with low notes on the Sony. Even at 60hz, the Xtreme 2 manages to play the note much cleaner.
@@ianogana5875 True, Sony Thought that the best way to get like better sound is to like, make the treble louder. Like, you got yourself a stereo system, that has bass and treble controls, and you just leave the bass as is, and you max out the treble!
Finally Sony yes yes we have to wait so long to just make better speaker than JBL. At meantime I have Extreme 2 but I always love the Sony products because of the history and so many things they invented for the first time like Walkman, LDAC codec, DVD BlueRay. The most recent LDAC almost everybody has in their premium headphones like Techincs and other brands in their products. This new speaker of Sony is more refined in every aspect well done.
I work at a Military PX and I get to buy an XB43 for $129.99 tax free when the price drops again (I already know when it will). Regular price at the PX is already way cheaper than anywhere else at $179.99. So if you're looking to buy one and you know someone in the military, ask them to take you to your local PX/BX.
Every time I use my xb41 in public, people been giving me good compliments about how that speaker sound so good, so yes I'm keeping my xb41 and my JBL Xtreme 2 and yes I am getting the xb43 😎😎💯💯💯🎉🎉🎉🎉
I auditioned both speakers at the mall and I can conclude that the JBL has a little more bass but the clarity and top end belongs to the XB43! Love it. anyway, can't afford it at the time so I settled with my old XB30, which is a lot more silent and my twin JBL Go 2's.
I love the sony. I got it way before this review when it first came out and couldn't be happier. Also the bummer part of not having handle. You can get any 20" extension cord wrap for it and carry it anywhere

Interesting comparison. For home use I have a comprehensive paradigm system and that is what we are accustomed to listening to. The wife and myself needed something portable to listen to outside and both did blind comparisons yesterday at best buy. We did this separately and both agreed that we preferred the sound of the jbl extreme 2 over the Sonyxb43. Funny, considering the opinions below 👍 to each their own.
Xtreme 2 has better bass tho, like for the sony the lower Hz is not as deep as the JBL. The JBL has a more richer, deeper and natural sound. The other parts sony is kinda better. But I prefer the JBL because of the bass, as a buyer my main preference is good rich bass.
Akhil Kattuvelil Sijo sony has better bass then most lf its jbl speakers I heard them in the stores the xb32 has more deeper bass then the charge 4 and the xb41 has more bass then the extreme 2
DLX Willington I ran your frequency test recordings through an analyzer so I could see what frequencies were actually playing through the speakers. The Xtreme 2 was actually making the real bass frequencies, while the Sony was making nonsense around 100hz 😂
I wish both speakers made “real bass frequencies” however, they don’t. They are way to small to be able to create any frequencies below around 50 herzt and make them audible. Furthermore, RU-vid’s audio codec doesn’t support very low frequencies either. I understand that you like JBL, but there is no way I can believe you when you claim that it breaks the law of physics. I can also say from personal experience owning the Xtreme 2 that I have never heard really low bass notes from it.

Look my opinion they both sound alike but to my opinion when you have more bass on the Sony because if you listen to it there's not more trouble on the Sony but there's more trouble and more Bass on the Harman kardon onyx stereo five and JBL Xtreme 2 but not enough but if I get the Sony xb43 I might just leave it in my car see if it just bumps a bit because my friend put his Harman kardon onyx stereo five and his Harman kardon onyx stereo six both of my friends put their own speakers in separate cars and they're both were bane but let's see if the Sony 43 does the same

Hi Willington, hi guys. Well, first of all, I'm a sony fan. But, I was really confusing about the bass test on xb43. You explained about the octave thing in the same frequence, but that's no real, cause octave is related to musical notes. But you're not complete wrong. When I listenned to the bass test, I've hear that xb43 was in a diferent frequence than the source, no matter extreme2 or the real source. So I downloaded an app tha mesure the frequence of sound and put my headphones (a sony xb920 one) right in the phone microphone to see what would happen. Guess what? When it goes below 50Hz, xb43 kind of emule it. The xtreme 2 and the real bass source has a 50hz reading, but xb43 has 100hz. When I jump to the real source versus xb 43, all frequences are doubled in it. I mean, in 50 hz, xb43 has a 100hz reading. When in 45hz, xb43 has 90 hz and so on. Tha's why we can't see the difference between bass performance on it. I still believe that sony wins that battle, but maining because of its highs performance. However, no way to achieve real 20hz. Keep doing that great job! Sorry for my poor english.
@@dragongamer2317 They did not copy the JBL Design, they just reorganized the speakers in a way that made the sound pleasant, JBL does not have a patent for exposed passive radiators, as well as other speakers. And another Sony style is much more beautiful than that of JBL, the curves, the lights and the shape of the box became much more harmonious, in the Xtreme 2 it looks like a submarine or a barrel with a cylindrical shape.
That sony low freq test clearly has another octave of bass playing simultaneously with the real freq fed. That double layer octave plays higher than the original freq. Its like bass coloring using oscillator. That's very bad trick to your ears!
What you hear at low freq test on Sony are higher harmonics, but not actual 35, 40 ... Hz. You hear 70, 80 ... Hz respectively. It means that JBL has better filtering and design.
I heard the Sony at best buy and man it is rich sounding and clear, I've also heard JBL & they're hard to beat. I've always liked Sony & almost bought it today, & still might go back it sounded that good.
Thank you for this nice video 👍👏 Unfortunately xb43 is not available in France. I also find with this video that the sony highs are not well integrated with mediums. The highs seem like "separated" from the rest. This afternoon I compared xb41 and xtreme2 with classical music. The what we can tell "soudstage" (regarding the size of these speakers!) was wider and flat with the xb41 live mode, and less wide but more deep and separated with the xtreme2. With JBL more air between instruments. I finally bought the JBL Extreme2 ! I would like Bose to build a "big" Mini Soundlink which was the best 5 years ago. But last products disappointed me.. I think the most important is ENJOY MUSIC !!
So I thought I'd give this speaker a wizz after I got a cheap refurb'd item. I'm a big fan of JBL, so it's what I'm comparing it to. Initially I thought the sound was a bit flat although did think it MAY have a bit more base than a charge 4 I compare it to. I checked a few settings and swapped my codec to LDAC and then it added that missing few percent. However this is not a loud speaker. I'm running it at around 50% most of the time. Even my charge 4 I'd run at less. Also worth to note a charge 4 sounds a little tinny in comparison, so the sound on the SB43 is still fuller, although I'd argue it lacks truly deep base. My honest advice is if you run SBC codec a JBL speaker is a better option. There's something JBL does which no one else can imo. Price dependant/room/intended use, a Partybox100 is special and just knocks every thing out of the park, despite running BT 4.3. HTH.
@@leepaterson7340 it really depends on what the intended use is. For my kitchen I like jbl Pulse 4. I have a charge 4 for outside on the patio, although it sounds a little tinny compared to an xb43. But the best is the Partybox 100 if space isn't an issue. Weigh up prices, neither speakers are bad, xb43 is a warmer sound, JBL is harder hitting. Price and intended use are key, but Sony needs Ldac to come alive imo 🙂
I have both and I love my JBL extreme 2, perfect mix of highs and lows. The Sony XB43 is very hard to dial in the sound, no matter what I do I can't control that treble, its either too high or too low. I am trying to sell it.
Great reveal of Sony's frequencies disguise! In Russia, we have xb41 even more expensive than xtreme2! So, xb43 could be much much more expensive! And 25% heavier btw!
