I got my 1000XM3 last week and the noise cancellation is impressive. I rode a noisy subway ( Canada Line near Oakridge ) and the screeching grinding sound of steel wheels grinding against a steel rail through unbanked corners was almost - 90% - eliminated. like 6:50 in your video . some sounds are less muted like voice announcements. I'm sure you could wear these headphones on a plane without music and comfortably fall asleep
Thank so much for splitting your video by subjects! It saves me a lot of time. Your review was very informative 👍 Ps: Just one tiny suggestion, I would have loved to hear the call quality of the headphones. Otherwise, you have produced the most professional review video I have ever seen. I think you could get more views if you include a graph in the thumbnail so viewers know about the objective (and scientific) content of your videos. Great job!
They are the best in the biz when it comes to TV's, Headphones, Monitors reviews. As objective as possible with proper methodology and they buy their own hardware. Non of that press preselected units or bias due to free stuff. They are the real deal.
I don't normally comment on RU-vid videos but this was such an amazing comparison. Thank you so much for going to this much effort to compare the two models!
My god! I didn't even knew that 2 persons can hear slightly different from the same headphones. This review is so detailed and through. I have never this thorough review of any product anywhere. You folks are cool. Subscribed!
Love your reviews! very thorough! So I went with the XM3 for me because I need the noise cancellation. But ordered the XB900N for my wife since she just likes the music and base and less concerned about noise cancellation. Getting them in 1 week. cant wait.
This video was just what I was looking for. Clear, concise, and thorough in your testing and comparison between the these 2 headphones. Great video, will definitely be checking you guys out before I make any future tech purchases.
900n much better value for money than xm3, great sound quality and very decent anc, extremely comfortable and battery life is insane, built quality is not as bad as the review is stating they actually look very good
How’s the bass? I have the xm3’s but I’m not an audiophile and I want more bass. More volume Would be great too but I’m guessing they’re both the same there
@@good-tn9sr yeah u can but not enough for me lol. I actually found a pair of 900n’s for like $70 bucks on eBay and I’m glad I did. They have great sound quality WITH all the bass I want.
Loved the video, I ended up buying the XM3. And man, the noise cancelling is brutally good. Even people arriving nearby to talk were cancelled lol, had to put the hand on the right ear to actually be able to listen them. BUT, within the first week of having them (being last week of this comment), the right side started producing some odd and VERY annoying wind/waterfall/static sound. Normally doesn't start right away, seems that after couple hours of use, then it starts. When playing music, if the volume is mid/high, you might not hear, but on low volume and in between musics (or on a calmer interlude) it's super audible, and is bad. After googling for a while, seems that this is a recurrent issue on the headphones, lots of people reported this, and most of them had to return for new ones. Not sure if lucky or unlucky that started so earlier (within first week) since I'm now aware of the issue, making me kinda sad that for that price, there's a possible factory issue. Have you guys from Rtings had any issue like that with either of them?
YES I just got this issue today with my headphones, this is my 4th faulty pair of headphones IN A ROW. It’s slowly driving me nuts, but I’m just gonna return the XM3 and get the cheaper headphones instead
You guys are doing some real work. I was confused which one to buy and watched several video's but after this video my search for comparison ends. Thanks a lot !!!
This is an awesome review! Kudos guys. Do you have any information about the microphone quality of both headsets? Especially in a public bus VS Moderate noisy background.
This is the most informative and amazingly demonstrated video I have ever seen for a pair of headphone reviews. Why am I only seeing something like this so beautiful now?! Thank you, for uploading one of the greatest reviews I have ever seen for headphones. You helped me understand the difference between the 2 and to which provides more bass and one that provides bass but also provides a clear crisp sound! This is so cool!
This has been the most useful comparison/ review video I have ever watched. Great stuff guys! The 1000xm3 is priced at 1.5x the price of xb900n so I think the xb900n is more value for money
Fantastic review! Glad I found this video. That said i was wondering if you were planning on making the comparaison between the Sony Wh 1000 xm4 and the XB900N instead ? Regardless I am now a subscriber!
Wow, great video. This has to be the most In-depth technical yet explained in layman’s terms comparison video I have seen. Definitely gained a new subscriber here. Look forward to watching more of your videos.
@@Cappilot1 they are brand new in person so I think I should run to get them before they go back up. But I did notice that Amazon warehouse sells xb900 used pair for $76 but the xb900 brand new pair is still $248 ..
Wow, this review is insane! Thank you so much. I was tempted to get the cheaper Xtra Bass model thinking they would be similar just without the noise cancelling, but the graphs have made me realise the extra money is well worth.
Like everyone said, with XM3 you can hear the bass, with XB900N you can feel the bass. Beside that, XM3 win everything. So only when you are basshead and bass only or have another pair of headphone, XB900N is a go. If you listening to anything else or this is your 1st pair, should pick XM3.
I bought the Xb900. I went to PC world to test both headphones. For somone who was moving from the WH-500 the shortcomings of the XB900 comapred to 1000 XM3 were offset by the price difference. And the noise cancelling is amazing once you start playing music.
@@MDonovan I tried a few headphones including the Bose quietcomfort etc, but I ended up with keeping the Sony WH-XB900N. The sound is very good, and feel more comfortable for longer periods than the xm3's. It's cheaper too which was a bonus. lol
@@tuttahsmith7481 I like mine but whenever I'm outside I expect someone to pull them off my head and run away with them. $450 in Canada makes me nervous
The touchpad issues have been solved, sort of. The only annoyance left is having to turn off & on the xm3 to prevent the issue from happening, every time you transition from a warm to a cold location. Not something you'd want considering their price, but it works for me. Touch controls also regain regain functionality, with a slight increase of the touchpad not registering touch while using touch controls. I'm glad this worked for me, since just a bit of wind on a cold day, even when stationary, caused tons of ghost touches.
I just got the xb900n new on eBay for $99.99. I am definitely happy with these at that price. For full price though, I'd go with the 1000xm3. The difference in noise isolation is incredible.
Thank you...just fired up my XM3's for the first time. Was a little concerned the bass would be insufficient after i heard about the 900n's after i bought them. bass is just fine.
how is the h900n compared to the xb900n ? i have the h900n but personally i think the sound sig is too flat and relaxed, but i do not disliked the sound. do i get the upgrade if i switch to xb900n ? or will it just some kind of sidegrade regarding the overall sound quality (except the bass) ?
I've worn mine at a gym room where there was fairly loud house music and dudes doing their thing with weights and it was surreal just how I couldn't hear almost anything outside my xm3s. The other important thing to me for headphones is comfort and these are fantastic. I can't give you a comparison to the 900Ns, but the xm3s are really good.
I returned the wh 1000xm3 headset 3 days after I received it. The treble is muffled and there is a sibilage problem. The basses are not deep and are mostly in the form of mid-bass. It hits like a fist and is annoying. Also, the loudness is not high. I did not like it, it is not a product that deserves its price.
I got the xb 900n for only $100. I think they are more worth it for that price. I can still eq the sound how I want anyway and the active noise cancelling is decent enough. I have the extra bass if i want it as an option. They are also more comfortable due to the more spacious ear cups which is important to me.

I got 900N or 140 Euros in Europe, so it was a bargain price difficult to beat. Great headphones.
jeez this was a really good review. Anyways, the WH-1000XM3s are way out of my budget, but I've found a refurbished option on amazon for the WH-XB900Ns that cost 140 dollars. Are there any headphones around the price range you would recommend instead?
Which headset has the better bass? Which has the deeper bass? Which has the louder bass? Feel like these would be helpful when comparing a XB headset as the Bass is likely to be a major reason someone is looking to buy a XB model.
If you want better noise cancellation and don't mind a bit more bass, then we would definitely recommend the XM3. The H900N are a good headset and sound a bit more balanced out-of-the-box than the XM3, but you can always EQ the XM3 to a profile you're a bit more used to, and they have a better, more premium design overall. If you have the budget, the XM3 are a good upgrade.
