⭐ ⭐ ⭐ You have to turn on Dolby Vision in the settings. The default is for the 3D. Turn off the 3D AND you get Dolby Vision.

It's a great 4k player the annoying thing is checking the disc to see if it's dolby vision or not, works well with my Sony A90j, I also have the same sonos set up as you, movie nights are just magical, one movie id like to see on 4k is fightclub, keep up the good work guys love from the UK
@mattkish5806
@mattkish5806 2 года назад
Thanks for watching! Like you said with the Dolby vision thing, do you shut off dolby vision when the disc does not have it? Because it forces EVERYTHING into Dolby vision! So I’m still trying to decide if that’s a bad thing? And I’m still wondering why Sony would even implement this feature? I understand to upscale but even regular 1080p Blu-ray’s are saying Dolby vision in the display options while playing.
@ibby.hussain_
@ibby.hussain_ 2 года назад
Yes I shut off dolby vision if the disc doesn't support it because it affects the colour grading of the movie, forcing dolby vision is inaccurate, check out Shane Lee ( formally known as spare change) review on the Sony blu ray player, he goes through a step by step guide on all it's features 👍on RU-vid

Got it and installed it, a bit dissapointed, with my Bravia 4K TV modell 2019,the picture looks too dark, don't know, maybe with an OLED i would get better image quality. Got to check if my TV has Dolby Vision too, that was a good tip. 😅😅
@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia
@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia Год назад
Yea that’s the biggest disappointment with this one is that you have to manually change it to Dolby Vision if the disk supports it. If you try and push the Dolby vision over the HDR and it doesn’t support it that can make your image look off also.

I love having a dedicated 4k player! I have the Panasonic UB820. Quick question, how is DV with C1? I have the CX. I think the DV is pretty dark on the CX. I found a big difference in Ready Player One.
@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia
@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia 2 года назад

@mattkish5806
@mattkish5806 2 года назад
So I have the CX, I have my Dolby vision mode on and then i have Filmmaker’s mode on also! So I don’t think it’s to dark in my opinion, I absolutely love the picture on my Oled, I spent a lot of time in my settings and researching what features do what and what are the best settings and I’m very happy with the picture on my tv with this player! Maybe I’m use to the darker picture? But I wouldn’t say it’s to dark but that’s my opinion.
@mattkish5806
@mattkish5806 2 года назад
Also comparing the CX to the C1 I don’t see any difference in picture quality, correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think the panel changed much or at all, I think it was a few menu options and game optimization was the big difference but the CX is still my primary tv as it’s a 77” on my wall and the C1 is a 48” on my computer desk with no surround sound or anything so I use my CX a lot more all around and don’t see a difference between the two both amazing TVs!

Sony still, inexplicably, refuses to make disc players that automatically sense whether a disc is HDR10 or Dolby Vision. Having to turn DV on and off manually is absurd. When it's on everything is sent to the TV in Dolby Vision including SDR Blu-rays which don't always look good in forced HDR. Even the Home screen and streaming content is converted to Dolby Vision, not good. LG and Panasonic players do automatically sense HDR10, Dolby Vision and SDR content. The Panny 820b is more expensive but, as pure disc player, it runs circles around Sony's players.

@@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia To me it's similar to Samsung's refusal to allow its 4K TVs to play Dolby Vision encodes. It insists on sticking with its proprietary HDR10+ which has little commercial viability. While HDR10+ is similar to Dolby Vision in that it does use dynamic metadata, when you play a Dolby Vision disc on a Samsung TV, it can only play it in static HDR10 so whatever advantages HDR10+ has are negated. It makes you wonder what Sony and Samsung, respectively, are thinking about.
@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia
@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia 10 месяцев назад
@MrNorcal81 I can only assume that they have contracts with certain companies so if they can’t get money out of it they won’t support it or they won’t pay Dolby to allow it on their TVs. I just don’t understand that, I wouldn’t want a TV that doesn’t have Dolby Visio on it personally.
@MrNorcal81
@MrNorcal81 10 месяцев назад
@@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia I read somewhere that the Dolby Vision royalty is $2-$3 per TV set. If that's true than that can't be the reason that Samsungs don't support Dolby Vision. It would easy enough to pass that cost onto consumers. There have also been stories about Samsung claiming that the peak brightness of their flagship models eliminates the need for Dolby Vision but that makes no sense because HDR10+ is supposed to rival DV in its video capabilities. Oh well, since neither of us is ever going to buy a Samsung TV, its a moot point. I have a Sony A95K QD-OLED which I'm very happy with although I have to admit that I sometimes wish that I had waited for the A95L series to come out but such is life in the AV world. 🤷‍♂

I posted this on the Panasonic review as well so what ever one you see first my friend. All right so I use the Sony as my main 4K player, That and The 820 have very similar 4K playback weather it be in audio and Video. Where the panasonic is better is with upscaling on blu ray and DVD. It’s very noticeable in that area. Also the Panasonic gives you way more options and settings while the Sony is bare bones there. But the Panasonic also costs more. If you just want the best 4k playback and don’t care about anything else, Save the money and get the Sony but if you want the most bang for your buck get the panasonic.
