Yup, Japanese design is the best. They designed nothing like Korean, American(yeah you Apple), and Chinese.

Korea is only on mass production and quickly copy everyone else. Like Samsung started with blackberry. Now the S21 finally got to the point of looks and performance of this one (xperia 1). I'm surprised they started copying sony now too

I got the chance to preorder both for the price of the phone, from B&H, I personally like the phone a lot, fast charging 18W, screen is gorgeous, tall aspect is great for browsing web pages and watching movies 21:9 ratio, cameras are ok too did not used them a lot yet, it comes with a headphone to USB C adaptor... works

Late reply but Sony Xperias dont have wireless charging because that is less effective which means more heat which means faster battery degradation.

@@hampusrytterlov8619 yeah i hear sony batteries are better long term and a large part of the reason is the lack of speed charging and wireless charging. i'm fine with a little slower charging speed if it'll keep the battery in good condition longer.

Wireless charging is like toys for kids: it gets used a bit then tossed aside. Sony uses their head and doesn't add something that's of no use in the end. It also only creates magnetic fields. Very dangerous for any kind of pacemaker/ICD.

The Xperia 1 is way ahead of all other brands from it's era. You can afford to lower some settings and still be better off than other brands of it's age. It also doesn't affect performance too much, atleast not noticeable. You can also open up developer options and go all the way down to adjust allowance in background apps.

Thank you! Overall I think the build quality is good, I especially like what they did with the battery tabs making it easier to replace the battery, so repairs on this phone should be much easier than most other phones.

just ordered this phone and gonna try my best not to have to ever do this. from what i've heard, even though the battery is a little on the small side, it's a very good long term battery and after a year and a half it still tests nearly like new. and i'm pretty sure the guy making that review uses up a lot more battery than i will on average.

Try taking it apart, drying out any water or liquid inside including moisture, then use a tooth brush to brush off any corrosion around chips and connectors etc. Then see if that would get the phone running, if not you can try a new screen assembly to try to gain access to the phone if the touch and so forth is not working. If still doesn't work and the phone just wont boot into the main screen for you to be able to transfer your data, you most likely won't be able to unless you find a professional water damage repair place for phones who might be able to fix the phone.

I have what sounds like the exact same issue here after mine got wet, did you find a resolve / identify any particular place to find the damage? Would love to get mine working again

I think I have the same problem as this guy, phone will show battery level when charging, then boot up screen and then home screen for a fraction of a second before going totally black and unresponsive except for the fingerprint. I've taken it apart (apart from the bottom section as the screws were too tight and the screwdriver poor quality) kept it in rice over night and brushed whatever connections I could get at with a dry, clean toothbrush. Still no change unfortunately. Is there any other steps you would recommend or should the screen unit being replaced be the best job?

At this point your only option would be to try a new screen, if it doesn't work then the main board has water damage somewhere underneath the shields causing something to short which would require a place that is experienced in water damage repaire for phones to be able to possibly fix. Since they use special chemicals to clean the boards etc.

Is the bad part of this Xperia the finger print on mine doesn't work two years ago

Hi, thanks. Did you only disconnect the battery cable and didn't touch anything else? Make sure the display cable is properly connected, or try disconnecting and re connecting it etc. Also try turning the phone off and one and see if it helps. Very small chance the battery can also be defective or aftermarket with incorrect voltage etc. possibly causing the touch not to function or short but that would be my last guess. You can try connecting your old battery and see if you have the same issue. Also possible you may have damaged or broken off a small resistor or chip on the motherboard while taking it apart or disconnecting the battery cable which might have been for the touch.

Hi thank you for the prompt reply. I hoped to just disconnect the battery but after a couple of years of running quite hot the battery was glued in pretty solid so I carefully removed the motherboard to remove the battery as the tabs did not work as anticipated. One thing I can’t find a home for is the FCC ID plastic tab. I assume that is just information an has no effect on the product. I think this must sit behind the sim slot. Battery was sold as Sony for this phone, min 3200 mah 12.4 wh. Nom 3.85v 4.40v. Only thing is the code on the bat is different to the one on your video - s/n AA3540SWBWMT. Will try the old battery. What does the cable do that you remove at 0.33 in the video. I think that little lock has got damaged. Does this have any relevance to the touch screen?

@@carnivorousentity yea its for the fingerprint reader. If the lock is broken might not function properly if the cable moves around but not sure. Wont have anything to do with the touch though.

Yes, every phones battery is replaceable. You just need to take a few things apart to get to the battery to pry it off. It's not a easy replaceable battery like the older phones which you just pop off the back and can remove it, but its not too complicated either.

There's usually adhesive under it, so the battery may not bang around if there's a bit space around it

To retain the water resistance, you would need to install the original pre cut adhesive strip for the phone. Here is a link to one and you can watch the video I made on how to install new adhesive for smartphones to get a better understanding. www.ebay.com/itm/352745021561

any smartphone philips screw driver should work. The one I used was a 1.5 x 25 mm

There honestly is no room at all around the battery to put a larger one in. This phone is pretty compact as it is so the battery is snug fit pretty much.

Dont need bigger battery becouse sony is the king for battery optimization. I have used their devices from 2003 and everything perfect. GUARANTIED.

Yea the main heat source is facing the back of the screen so I don't think you would really be able to add anything aside from a thin copper vapor chamber that you can put in between the frame and board and remove the thermal pads and use thermal paste instead with the vapor chamber.

Find a backfan on aliexpress. These are good enough. I have one. It uses a small spring to grip on both sides. I can easily avoid accidentally pressing buttons with it too. It wil work, just find a good one. The phone, the whole brand, is worth it.

Hi, no you would need to take it apart from the back. Also you wouldn't want to risk prying the screen off since there is a high chance of breaking or damaging it and it's costly. You would just need to remove the back plate/cover then remove the screws on the top plastic cover and remove that giving you access to the top earpiece speaker. Its held down with adhesive so you would need to gently heat it up and pry it off. You can always remove the motherboard as well to give you more room to work with but that is up to you.

You can use a hair dryer as well, and depends, some parts come with the adhesive pre installed and some don't. Usually sony phone parts are hard to find though.

Hi, there are some on ebay but are pricey. You can search it on ebay and filter to list from price + shipping from highest to lowest and you will see there is a few listed. Reason I say to filter from highest to lowest is there is no one selling it for cheap so those are the only ones on ebay I was able to find. When you search it regularly it shows hundreds of other model ones and hard to filter through them to find the xperia 1 screens.

Hi, its held on with adhesive tape which is like a double tape, sticky on both sides which holds it down. Apply heat and pry it off. Usually the replacement backs should come with adhesive strip pre installed already so you can just peel the protective tape off of the adhesive and install but if the one you ordered does not, you can order smartphone red tape or smartphone adhesive and cut strips that you can stick around the sides of the back plate to hold it down. I also have links in the description for adhesive tapes etc.

Yea you should be able to. It's easier to do if you find a display and frame combo but if not, the screen after disassembling the phone is held on with adhesive. You would need to pry off the old screen and apply new adhesive and the new screen to the frame and reverse the process.

Hmm not sure what it can be. Could be the board has a short or is overheating, bad firmware (which reflashing would erase your data), or something else.

It's replaceable but not sure if the part is available. Try contacting sony and see if they have a mail in repair service.

It's a coaxial cable usually used for antenna signal from the sub to main board.

@@nataliecunningham103 the coaxial cables come with the connectors on either end, usually its hard to find the exact coaxial cable for specific phones, so you may need to buy one thats available for another phone and similar length to be able to use as a replacement.

Oh I just looked. It's not that one. It's the thin sheet like one that you said undo the lock for. The lock part has snapped off of the part underneath

Hi, hmm not sure what could be causing it. Only thing I can think of is a loose connection or software issue. Try backing up all your data and doing a factory reset to see if its the software. If not, next I would look into a loose connection by taking apart the phone and making sure everything is properly connected. (but keep in mind taking it apart poses the risk of damaging the screen or parts if you are not careful as well as losing any water resistance since the seal will be opened)

its possible, or it might be background apps running. Have you tried doing a backup of everything then factory resetting the device to make sure no malware or other stuff are causing this?

@@PBKreviews thank you for replying. There's no malware probably because I don't download random apps. But I have noticed one thing. I added you tube, Google news, Sony news, Flipboard and Google app to focus mode. When I switch focus mode on, it gets less hot or sometimes no hot. Is RU-vid causing this ? Because others are just news apps. When I close all apps in background, still it gets hot. But when I switch focus mode on, it doesn't or less. Sometimes it gets too hot while charging. If I have to make a video call after, it doesn't last more than ⁵ mins. But I will try your advice. I will factory reset it. But this problem is since beginning. Any other advice please tell me. Thank you.

@@ssingh5423 Its normal for phones to heat up when using the internet or charging the phone or playing games etc. Just depends how hot its getting. If its hot to the point its burning then that's not a good sign but if its just getting hot and you can still hold the phone in your hand comfortably then its normal.

Factory reset will do nothing. This phone is a high performance device and will overheat easily when toughest apps are used. This will include video, games and functions like hotspot

Hi, not sure exactly what it could be, but if you're saying it has random colors and then reboots again, might be liquid damage or an issue with the processor etc. As far as anything else I can think of, would be to try a hard reset by doing a factory reset manually through the bootloader. You would need to google or RU-vid how to do that since it is different for every phone. Or you may need to reflash the original firmware.

Make sure your connecter is connected properly and in place. Also you can try disconnecting your battery cable and reconnecting it to see if it helps. If still nothing its possible the screen is bad or your graphic chip is bad on the board. When your old screen was broken, was it still displaying anything? Reason I ask is if it wasn't its possible more than just the screen was damaged when it broke

@@skyrimadventurelore Ya its possible then that the screen is not connected properly or the screen is defective.

These flatcables are very sensitive. Not connecting them well, can indeed cause disfunction or weird malfunction. Placing the screen askew or the digitizer cable wrongly can make the touchscreen flip out. Not pressing on the screen cable well enough can also cause bad graphics and flickering. Always check if the digitizer cable, or any cable for that matter, is connected well enough and connectors clean.

I should have gone more in depth on that portion of this phone but If I am not mistaken, the mother board would also have to be removed as well as the battery since there is probably a few screws holding a bracket that is holding the button/sensor to the midframe and those screws would be covered by the battery and motherboard along the side of the frame on the inside.

There is no internal sd card. Its a memory chip that is soldered onto the motherboard that is not removable by the end user.

Make sure you connected the cable for it and that you did not tear or damage the cable for the fingerprint reader.

@@PBKreviews thank you for replying to this old video :) cable seems intact. but by now I realized I broke off the tiny tiny "lock" for the cable that you showed in your video too. I found it but I doubt that it can be put back in place. could be worse. I'll enter a code then instead. don't have no .oney for a new phone and don't want to when only the battery had problems. everything else still great. (apart from the now defunct fingerprint reader). i still like the Xperia 1.

It has the thermal pads which transfer the heat to the midframe but yea it doesn't have any advanced cooling but it isn't a high end gaming phone either so it won't be producing as much heat as a gaming phone would. The cooling should be sufficient for this phone.

There is no need for cooler. Sony is perfect never lags like garbage samsung. Get out .
