Very informative. There is so much more to these WWI aircraft than meets the eye. You would think that they are so simple it would be like starting a lawn mower.

Amazing plane including the little red radiator cap that Barker had mounted on his Sopwith. Barker is Canada's most highly soldier while Billy Bishop is Canada's highest scoring ace. Once again an incredible piece of history kept alive and shared with many people! Thanks for preserving so many pieces of aviation history.

Kermit's description of the fuel/air mixture control taught me something I never knew about rotaries, great. A lovely plane.

My Dad used to do RC airplanes and the burning fuel smell is a smell I'll never forget. Interesting to learn that about the castor oil.

What would be cool would be a high speed camera video of one of these rotary engines up close. Seeing he valves and everything in slow motion would be cool.

Another great video by Kermit! Kermit, you REALLY need to find someone who can copy Miss Piggy, saying Oh Kermie! Seriously, when I was in High School, the Metal Shop teacher was involved in reproducing Le Rhone carburetors. Never saw a finished carb, but I did see LOTS of aluminum castings. We (the students) made them for class credit. 1973 or so, Newt Craven. Fremont High in Sunnyvale Ca. This teacher was AWESOME! steve

We're still planning to eventually present a show either on cable or here on RU-vid that will be a "day in the life" type presentation of Kermit and his planes, plans for building Act III, and his creative endeavors and philosophy on life, to be titled the "Wizard of Orlampa!" Best not to stand in a rotary's propwash too long - unless you've spotted a clean Porta-loo with a shortish queue. Superb machine Sir & an excellent display of their inherent 'wild side' too - they must be 'fun' on a bumpy day : )

Cindy Klenk you have my envy; sitting here under a leaden English sky, I can only imagine how much fun a day or two at Oshkosh would be. Nothing really wrong with 'Bananas' either, I suspect there's more metal in a Beech rudder pedal than in the whole airframe of that Snipe - but I know which I'd rather 'strap on'! Have fun : )

Ha! If you can ever get to Air Venture, even if you have to swim the Atlantic - Do! ;-) I lie up in Settle - probably as leaden as the UK this time of year - my dad was in England in the 40's and flew a B-17 across the channel, and made it back to tell the tale.

I think I get the basic idea of how the rotary works...but I never have been able to figure out how the spark plugs/wires, fuel lines, etc. work? How can you have plug wires that go to a distributor on cylinders that are spinning around at high speed??.....

That starting malarkey suggests it wouldn't be a very good interceptor. The Huns would have to give 2 days notice of a raid to give time for a startup..

What a coincidence that the Wankel automotive "rotary" also is an oil consuming engine---despite the decades of attempts by the Mazda engineers to solve the rotor seal problem...
