Friend "why are a third of your minis painted so amazingly and the other is just ok" Me " because sorastro doesn't do videos on every character " Love your work evertime I try an copy your technique I can literally see my ability grow. Keep up the great work. (Keep doing villians)
A beautiful piece from a lovely paint job! Thank you for sharing, Sorastro. I really like how these comics-inspired pieces give opportunities to push colors to a nicely saturated and vibrant stage.
I don't paint figures/ miniatures (yet) but I drop everything when I get a notification from here and watch. And I yelled "Hello!" three times before S even had a chance to greet us.
As someone who has only been painting for about 8 months I try to use the lessons here to paint all my MCP characters (currently 42 finished and 5 in the booth). Sorastro , my thanks for all the lessons and influence.
Another inspiring video my friend! I really love that green you used on his body suit. Now I'm going to need to dig through my stash to find a figure that will work on!
Thanks a lot James! Hopefully I take the sting out of the colour selection process at least, but the technical application does of course take a little practice... :)
@@Sorastro oh, no doubt the technical factor is there. Very impressive. Going to have to start a beginner level myself as I just picked up Zombicide and want to get busy with those.
Not only are you a super talented artist, but your video quality is amazing. I love that you use high quality cameras that zoom into the minis so we can see all the detail. Love your videos! Any chance you’ll make a painting tutorial for Scythe minis? 😊
First Yoda, and now Mysterio (I'm re-painting an old Heroclix figure of this character for my "Fun guys and gals" collection) :-) This has just made my year complete :-) Bring it on, big fella, I'm officially now a disciple of the Church Of Sorastro's Painting :-D Your blending and colour schemes are just too beautiful for words to describe. I LOVE how you painted his "head" (I dremelled off the plastic original head on my figure, and replaced it with a clear glass marble instead, to keep the glass effect and also cut down on re-painting the awful paint job on the figure :->). His purple cloak is also amazing, as I use craft paints now to paint purple cloaks, as they have many more shades than my usual model paints, dry dead flat, and blend much easier, so I'll be following how you highlight and shade his cloak very closely for my own figure. I am moved to tears every time I see one of your tutorials, as they are just so powerful and easy to follow at the same time, that it affects me deeply every time. I just wish I had these videos over 50 years ago, when I first started painting Airfix soldiers (Using enamel/lead based paints, of all things :-D). Thank you yet again for posting such a beautiful work of art for us all to enjoy :-)
Great Painting as always. Your NMM amazes my every time. Your blends are are smooth, if someone said this was made with an airbrush, I would think this to ne true. Have you ever thought about painting some DC Models from Knight Models?
Hi Sorastro, just wondering if you'll ever do a video showing about the music you compose. Things such as your DAW and VST's would be really interesting to learn about, alongside inspiration for series specific music (Crisis protocol, star wars legion, etc). Really love the videos you make!
Absolutely phenomenal video! Love your take on the gold. Any chance you'll tackle Colossus when he releases? Would love to see how you approach NMM on him.
Hello! Yes, there are some conversion charts floating around the internet, and I think there are apps available that can help too (but I can't remember what they're called).. Honestly though, if you can learn to just eyeball the colours, and try to match them yourself, it will help you become a better painter.. 😀
Thanks a lot Rob! You certainly could add some gloss varnish if you wish; I just didn't want the gloss reflections to "override" the manual reflections and nuances I'd given the helmet is all :)
Thanks a lot Adrian! Regarding your question, it partly depends on what level of painting I'm aiming for; for a quicker, table-top standard I might throw some Shade over a mid tone (especially for more textured miniatures), whereas if I want a higher level of finish I generally like to build the tone up from the shadow tone just so I have more control. :)
Amazing as always! Just in time to do mine... You mentioned using matt varnish and I've been wondering about whether I should be varnishing my MCP minis. Do you use it all over or were you just applying to the helmet?
Thanks man! These days I use the AK Interactive Ultra Matte varnish, and I apply it to the whole mini (although I'm not bothered about the parts that will never actually get handled - like the inside of the cloak etc... :)
Thank you Val! It really wasn't hard at all; you've just to relax and have fun with it; you can always paint over any bits you don't like. You can see in the video that although I had a basic plan in mind, I was still adding and tweaking things until I was happy with it :)
Superb. I wasn't sold on the character but you smashed it. Love the colours. Just bought cable / domino and green Goblin, plus Deadpool, as you inspired me with these paint 🎨 jobs. Any future plans for new series? Still waiting on those tauntaun riders 😉 🤟🏼
Thanks mate! Ha - I do now have the Tauntaun riders and will be covering them with a PDF guide. Regarding new series, I'm not planning to start anything new/major this year, but will be covering some of the Witcher: Old World minis when it comes out next year... :)
I know this is awkward, but what are the citadel alternatives to these paints because this tutorial is GREAT. I have always loved mysterio as a villain and am so glad to be able to have a model of him
Thank you! There are quite a few "paint conversion" charts floating around, as well as some apps I think that will help you find colours that match from other paint lines, or you could just use your own judgement of course. Be aware that even if you approximate the colour, the finish may be completely different (GW paints tend to be a lot more satin for example..) :)
Really nice! I have plans to paint Mysterio using colorshifting metals in purple and green on the bottom and "holographic paint" on the top of the fishbowl. I have no idea how that will work out, but I have to try it. Also, is that THE Sam Witwer among your patrons? I'd guess it is.
Thanks Magnus, and yes you must try that! Yes that is the lovely Sam Witwer (he's been a kind patron for a few years now) instagram.com/p/BwIuiDVHPm-/? :)
Do you have a video on how to properly use a wet pallet? I have one from Army Painter and it seems to dry out very fast. Ironically, it also feels like I'm flooding the paper and therefore diluting my paint to a watercolor consistency.
Hi! I haven't made a video for the wet palette actually but I'd be happy to give it some thought.. I've not tried the AP one so I'm not sure if I have much advice for you there, but with my Redgrass Games one I generally like to keep the surface just slightly damp (so not too wet) by dabbing it with kitchen towel before using. And if it looks like the water is drying out I'll use a pipette to add more water at the sides to keep the sponge hydrated. :)
@@Sorastro Thank you so much for the advice. I've been watching your videos for a long time and painting even longer. But I can't seem to reach your level and I don't seem to know how to improve my skill level... God willing one day I'll understand what you and other pro level painters understand.
As I learn how to paint more and more every day I still find myself making lots of mistakes and getting paint everywhere I shouldnt. When I see you painting the finer lines on the suit I cant help but ask why it is you do (what I consider) the details first, before the larger areas?
Hi! I just figured that I was quite likely to hit the surrounding area when painting the fine lines on the suit, so it made sense to paint the gold/yellow areas first, then tidy up with the green after. When highlighting the green suit however, it was pretty easy to avoid the yellow details (especially as I essentially left some dark lining around all of the gold sections). :)
@@Sorastro ahh that makes sense. I do find myself going from larger area to the smaller details and then back to the larger area to touch up. Thank you for answering! I learn a lot from your videos!
He mainly uses Rosemary and Co. but I also saw a Redgrass Games size 2 when he was painting the mist. Depending on where you are Rosemary and Co. can be incredibly hard to get, unfortunately. You’ll see a lot of arguments/discussions on best brushes but the standard go to brushes are R&C (usually series 8), Winsor & Newton (usually series 7), and Raphael (usually 8404). There are other good brushes as well, personally I’m using Artis Opus right now and really enjoying them. But yeah the brushes you find on Amazon are not going to be anywhere near as good.
@@Sorastro I honestly tried to follow your examples and I just could not blend the colors efficiently. Also probably just cause of my skill, but wherever I applied paint I left clear (and sloppy) lines of what that color was. So it doesn't look like it's gradually changing from one color to another, rather there are defined lines of seperation of differnet colors. I hope that makes sense. I had a little fun, but overall pretty dissapointed to say the least. Not to say that I'll quit though! 👍
Hi! The paints are by Scalecolor: elementgames.co.uk/paints-hobby-and-scenery/paints-hobby-and-scenery-by-manufacturer/scale-75/scale-75-scalecolor/scalecolor-colleccion?d=10786 😀
