If you side with sellen you actually get the shard spiral spell. It's unobtainable otherwise . It's pretty good against big enemies and can hit harder than comet, with even less fp.

It reminds me of pierce attacks in Monster Hunter, does more damage based on how often it goes through an enemy so it can do huge damage

If it's your first playthrough I'd actually recommend you side with Sellen. You get Jerren's armour when you defeat him anyway and you'll pick up plenty (around 15) Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones throughout your playthrough. What you pick up from Sellen you eventually get from her when you _truly_ complete her questline as well, so there's really no reason not to side with her. Sellen's rewards on the other hand you only have one shot at per playthrough, if you don't assist her you miss out for good.

Came to say exactly the same, plus the special spell she unlocks! Besides it is very interesting ending, better than just Jerren trowing a one liner!

There's also the pragmatic standpoint of Jerren's reward probably being pretty useless to you until after you've got into the third act to obtain enough Smithing Stone(8) to even get a +24 weapon, at which point you're on the precipice of several other Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones anyway. It's not a bad reward, far from it, just one that doesn't have as much immediate utility as what Sellen offers.

@@VahHustlin If you're doing it purely for some sort of "role playing" experience, sure. But there really isn't any other good reason to side with Jerren. I would side with Sellen now, complete the game (with all the Int build items you'll need), respec into an Int build, then start NG+ with that Int build. Then when you get to Sellen's questline again, you don't need any of her rewards, you could be a bro and side with Jerren.

For those having trouble not being able to remove Selens soul from her body or not getting the projection dialog. You need to defeat general Radahn at Redmane keep for the star to fall first. Then she fears for her life. Talk to her projection after this and you will be able to take her quest.

I sided with Sellen in my first play. I have a soft spot for persecuted witches. At first I thought there was going to be big changes when she took over the library. But, no, come back later and Rennala is back as if nothing happened, and Sellen is... well, I won't spoil it for any who haven't gone through the quest yet. But still, where did Rennala go? How did Sellen meet her ultimate fate? I know Elden Ring is full of mysteries, but they could have said *something!*

Yeah I decided to leave her quest in limbo. There is a way to keep Sellen in the main library and still have Rennala sitting by a book shelf. You don't tell Sellen about the location of one of the characters. That will mean the armor outfits wont drop though.

I finished her quest and my god, Sellen really ended up with a horrible ending It could’ve been possible for what she wanted to coexist with Caria’s desires if she were only willing to give it a shot, but she’s a bit egotistical

For any new comers to Elden Ring if you’ve come to a instance where you can not continue Sellens quest line, fight Radahn. It should commence after.

So there was never a pumpkin head boss and she wouldn't talk to me at all just chained to the wall I thought maybe I has to bust her out now she shows as a enemy will this fix that?

Enjoyed that you went with the ‘Challenge Sellen’ ending instead of (what I would consider to be) the ‘default’ of helping Sellen. This allowed me to see what the alternate questline ending looked like.

I was nervous as I had helped Sellen. she went on to say that she took back the academy and Renalla wasn't there! Rested at grace site and Renalla came back. I can re-spec, whew

Renalla is still there even when Sellen takes over, she's just off to the side somewhere. Although, like you said, Renalla comes back after reloading the area anyway, so it's a pretty minor issue.

I just finished my first playthrough with Ranni's ending and now find myself going around collecting all legendary items/weapons/spells etc for trophies lol - some of her quest was needed for it so here I am!

I recommend Siding with Sellen, Shard Spiral carried my ass all through the later half of the game, it hits big bosses a lot. The regular smithing stone is not that rare, you get plenty when you reach endgame, and there not that many good weapons to use it on, the somber ones are better.

i had fully explained this in your exploring caelid north video but you had missed the crystallian spirit ashes and the crysteal spear weapon in the sellia hideaway cave unless you planned to cover this in a future video just so you dont forget 🙂

You can still get the crown of Sellen Just gotta sit at the site of grace in Rennala's room and Sellen will be in a graven mass off to the side Her crown is just in front of it

Weird that Sellen is at 2 places, at the same time, at the Witchbane ruins getting tortured and at the Waypoint ruins where you can interact with her. That threw me off completely, but your guide helped a lot.

Dom just a general comment but you need to use the Beast-Repellent Torch! When you hold this torch, it repels rats, dogs and basilisks and they go all calm and docile and won't attack you. So many of your videos, you're having to deal with rats, dogs and the dreaded basilisks and you say how they're the bane of your existence. If you hold the beast-repellent torch in either hand though, they won't attack you and will just look at you as you go right up to them or go by them. The basilisks even quiver a bit like they're afraid of you if you walk up to them with it. Just a big tip for you, making a lot of areas easier.... use the beast-repellent torch! X

Me too, the most I can do is use the torch to get near the basillisk and kill them with my katana. If I don't do that they will eventually attack me.

I'm at the part where I took her essence from her body and then travvelled back to redmane castle and there's a new boss to kill with alot of enemies about. The place was deserted before and it's full of enemies. I didn't know the guy had a quest to do prior.. I'm not sure of this quest will finish now

redmane castle is blocked off for a boss fight,I killed rahdan. went to see the guy on the chair went back to way point ruins no one is there,went back to redmane castle now there are enimies there. what am i doing wrong

I have finished most of the game and did the questline, but Jerren can't be found in the church right near the lift to the Radahn fight. He isn't at Witchbane Ruins near Sellen's "body" either.

I finished the game, and im going arround the world doing things i mist, first time playing it, did this quest, but i cant seem to revive her, she just stans there, there is no interaction with her new body. anybody knows why? or is it because i already finished the game ?

So I found the secret chamber before speaking to Jerren and speaking to Sellen about comet Azur etc. She wont talk to me even though I have her lifeforce thingy. I saw some videos saying this is a bug however nothing helped me still and shes just silent. Anyone have any idea what to do?

I have a glitch. I keep taking the stone from Sellens stomach & it just offers that I keep doing it over & over. I killed Radahn & Jerren isn't sitting there, & no one is in Rannis Rise. I tried killing her & absolving my sins but that didn't work. All outta ideas.

Annoys me immensely how walkthroughs are almost always needed for this game's sidequests which offer some great fights and rewards. I mean, it's ridiculous that to progress this quest you need to tell her about some random spell you found, but if you only discover her in the dungeon in the ruins you can't return and say "what the fuck, I saw you there, what's up with that?" like anyone would do

Why? I chose sellen because I felt it was the right thing to do. I felt bad for killing jeered tho, and I haven’t played the ranni questline yet, why is it bad to side with sellen?
