Annie Mac is in Sheffield to meet Bring Me The Horizon's lead singer Oli Sykes. He takes her on a tour behind the scenes at the band's studio and opens up about his addiction to drugs, his relationships and his aspirations for the band's future.
Oli tells BBC Radio 1 that Bring Me The Horizon's sixth album "Amo" promises to be a very different record to the five before it. He shares how he came to collaborate with Grimes, his experience with Limp Bizkit and the meaning behind their new music.

So glad I follow this channel. What Oli was saying about a little journey with their music, it's fun sometimes to go in order with their music and just listen to the changes, not just the sound but you can hear the growth.

Great interview, very insightful to how and why the bands music has evolved, with Oli's renewed love of music. I personally love the direction of the new material. Well done BMTH for having the courage to change your musical style in the face of public backlash

you could literally make a drinking game out of Oli saying "you know what I mean" lmao. The album isn't for me, but I respect the choice that has been made. He's healthier now and that's all that matters.

It’s cause some people are just bad at explaining themselves or impatient. I have that problem because there’s just no need to explain yourself on everyday tasks such as taking a shower, eating breakfast at 1:00pm, etc. Putting myself in their shoes I would overuse that phrase dramatically lol

I feel like my music taste has evolved with Bring Me. I found them when I was 13/14 years old and now I’m 19 and here we are. I adore heavy music and possibly even demonic sounding vocals but I don’t really have a set taste I guess. The depressing music I found as a kid struck a chord with me as a depressed kid and as Bring Me have evolved to how they are now, it’s really helped me to figure myself out. Now the new song for Death Stranding has linked me to a game full of soft indie music aswell (although I liked alt-j and bands like them before) I’ve now found more music to fill my soul with. Thank you guys for being you. ❤️❤️❤️

Saw these guys supporting so many bands when they were starting out, I must have seen them booed/bottled off stage mid set atleast 4 times, there was a vicious bandwagon of hate towards them early on. Always said fair play to em for keeping at it, Medusa was a cracking track live with the right crowd.

Bring Me The Horizon were my absolute favorite band for years and years. I own every record from TIWTEOYSWMF to TTS on CD, saw them live multiple times, I own the Blu-rays of "Live at Wembley" and "Live at Royal Albert Hall", multiple shirts and hoodies and stuff of the band and Sempiternal I even bought as an LP, just because I love looking at it so much, and for me it is most likely the best album ever. I came to realize now, that their new music just doesn't do it for me. I don't think they 'sold out', I just honestly think that medicine is just an extremely boring instrumental with average singing, and mother tongue isn't innovative either, it sounds like something that Coldplay or Justin Bieber already topped in 2014. When I compare Hospital for Souls or It Never Ends for example to mother tongue, I just feel an enormous drop in musical quality, so much less special and emotional. BUT I see that the band I like is happy about what they're doing and that they are successful, and I would never hate on them or stuff like that. I'm gutted that I will have to move on without them, but I wish these amazing guys all the best! And if one day in the future, for whatever reason, BMTH decide to do a dark, heavy, experimential and extraordinary album again, definitely count me in guys ;) P.S.: Of course I still pre-ordered amo, just because I really think they deserve all the success in the world :) EDIT: Huge "lol" at myself. "Post Human: Survival Horror" is the best record I've heard in at least half a decade, from any band in any genre. Didn't think they would be back so fast and with such a banger. Not a single song on that EP that's not absolutely amazing.

I will always love what they create . I personally think medicine and mother's tongue is 100 X better than "wonderful life"

@@oliverx370 And that's totally fine! You don't have to share my opinion, I'm happy that you like the new songs :) I still go back and listen to "Count Your Blessings" a lot btw, love that album! For me nowadays I also listen a lot to bands like Architects, The Amity Affliction or Fever 333 but the older BMTH albums are still in my daily routine and will always be. And I liked Mantra and especially Wonderful Life. But to each their own :)

Aaaaaand I know them since 2017 and I hate that new stuff I was hyped with the release of the new album but I see Sykes' throat can't sing like in the past anymore. And I understand it. And I know the band have to addapt to the present but... I just can't hear all that commercial stuff... there are more indie bands sing the same style but better If you like the new music... perfect enjoy it but i just cant
