I had my thyroid removed and it has been a hard recovery. It takes time to get regulated for sure. Please remember this: If you don't feel right, it is NOT just in your head. Don't let anyone dismiss your thoughts, depression, low energy, ect. You will need medical care until you feel better. Blessings to the doctor who saved you from thyroid cancer!

How grateful we all are to that surgeon! Rest, relax, take every day slowly, just take care of you.

Glad you are doing well. I have the same condition. I've been on thyroid meds for 30 years. It gets so much better. Rest and relax.

Harriet, you are so right that this story could have been much more tragic, and there's gratitude to be offered for this less dire outcome. You are justified in feeling "annoyed" that life has to be interrupted for such things, but do make room for them, because they actually ARE life. I know you as one of the bravest, strongest, most practical people on the planet.

Amazing that the doctor picked up on the clues that lead to your testing…..you were in the right place at the right time meeting that surgeon. Get well Harriet ! My sister in law had this surgery, and once the thyroid replacement was in synch, she had a full recovery. Take it easy, take care. It does get better. I’m 12 years post op, and the scar becomes less noticeable and everything else comes right. Thankful for the surgeon who put everything together ❤

I am 60 years old. My thyroid was remove when i was 35 old. You need to rest thats very very important. Just take care. Pray for a speedy recovery

I am a retired medical technologist who worked in the laboratory of a hospital. The reason they check your blood every single time is because it is possible that you have formed antibodies in your blood and you want to make sure that the blood you might receive is 100% compatible. You never want to take any chances with blood transfusions. And if you have received blood while you're in the hospital, it is very possible that they will draw your blood again and check everything again to make sure that you have not formed new antibodies. If you receive blood that is not compatible, it can result in death. A lot of testing goes into insuring your safety. So happy you are doing well.

I've been through all of that. Low energy is normal. I found that doctors will start you out on low doses of thyroid replacement hormone. I had to keep pushing and advocating for myself until they stepped up the level. I had mine out at age 49. I'm 71 now. You will make it. Best wishes to you all.

it's possible that this surgeon has saved your life. she insisted, she asked again, she went the extra mile. that's really admirable, because doctors aren't really enticed to do that within the overloaded system. I am chronically ill with POTS/MCAS, and I felt your tiredness viscerally. I hope you are recovering your 10%.

you really don't need to say sorry. cancer is an individual process, and you need to take care of yourself. I've been through cancer myself, friends and family want to help, but only you can ask for the help you need (not always what they want to give). taking rest is the most important part of it. take care 🤗

Hi guys! First off, best wishes to you for a full recovery. I worked in a blood lab for a decade in the US, so I can only speak on how American hospitals handle testing. However, certain things are considered pretty standard, some of those include several reasons to retest blood type. 1. You've been pregnant. Depending on Santi's blood type, some of your antibodies may have changed in response. 2. There's always the possibility that you have received blood/blood products and/or a bone marrow transplant elsewhere that your records don't reflect (which your antibodies may have reacted to in some way), and frankly, a repeat test is more reliable and safer for everyone than relying on a patient/family report. A bone marrow transplant, for instance, has the capability to completely change a person's blood type. Given that getting a transfusion wrong is very dangerous and often fatal for the patient, most hospitals in the US require that any procedure that may require a blood transfusion has to have had a very recent type and screen test. This timing can vary anywhere from within a week before to 24-48 hours before. A little lead time is preferred in case the facility needs to order a specific blood time. I hope this helps.

I lost my husband due to cancer. We did not realize he had it. Both of us were working in the medical field, he was a pharmacist and I am a retired nurse. Cancer creeps up to you. LOL, well they shouldn't be saying the tests are just for blood type, because that is in your medical file. But they are also checking major organ function because you were going under anesthesia. Organ function can change, blood type does not. It's pretty standard to repeat labs right before a surgery. Very glad they were on the ball and found that tumor early. It will take time to regulate your thyroid meds. I have been on a thyroid med for several years (I still have my thyroid) and they need to adjust my dose every now and then and it can take a bit of time for it to kick in and to feel better. It was so nice of you to post this short video and give us all an update. But honestly, you didn't need to do that. Please take the time you need to rest and recuperate and don't push yourself, certainly not for us. We will still be here.
