Kendall Jenner, Megan Fox, Michelle Keegan are just some of the women who have been praised for being ‘natural beauties’. Their faces are technically perfect, apparently. Yet are these women actually ‘natural’ beauties? or, have their beautiful faces been tweaked, refine and enhanced? These days, it seems that to be considered a natural beauty, you need to have had a little help from a plastic surgeon. You need a little filler. A little botox. A little nose job. Thats still natural beauty… right? Well i don’t think so. I think we’re heading down a slippery slope where being an ACTUAL natural beauty - aka your face as nature intended isn’t good enough anymore. Its not enough to be pretty. To be yourself. No, you need to be PERFECT. And that’s a real problem. Because people aren’t perfect. We all have our own unique faces, features and quirks - but now they’re considered flaws. That we have to fix. Then we’ll be ‘naturally beautiful’. It’s actually really bloody problematic. And no - i’m not a natural beauty either. I’ve dabbled in all the things. Filler, botox and cosmetic tattooing. Is natural beauty gone for good?
Thank you to Typology for partnering with me on today’s video!

It's amazing how all these female plastic surgery celebs look similar, even across racial lines. Kim started it and they all follow her now. And they all have that carefully cultivated, miniaturized "bonsai nose" gradually whittled down with multiple cuttings.

Movie stars from Marilyn’s era definitely weren’t natural either. Marilyn has been said to have had work done on her nose and chin along with receiving hairline electrolysis. Her hair colour wasn’t natural either. In 2013, X-rays of Marilyn’s face and medical records were auctioned off, and seemed to confirm that she had had surgical tweaks to her nose and chin. She was also way ahead of her time with her makeup.

Exactly. This has been going on since the beginning of Hollywood. Tricking people into thinking famous people are more beautiful than they are is part of the allure. If they all “looked normal” they wouldn’t be famous. So to become famous they fake it with make up and to stay famous they do surgery. Marilyn used to enlarge her top lip with make up as well.

There are still some natural beauties out there!! I'm in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma (United States) and there's not a ton of women around here getting procedures done. There are the outliers of course, but most of us are still completely natural. I've never had any procedures, fillers, fake eyelashes, hair, etc. the only thing I've ever done is to dye my hair, and that is a very rare occasion that happens maybe once every couple of years. Those that stay off social media or don't follow influencers aren't "influenced" to live these lifestyles, but that is definitely becoming more rare! 💖

When I was younger a natural beauty was more like someone who was pretty and didn’t wear hardly any or no makeup and even didn’t dye their hair. It meant more like a laidback girl next door, almost a tomboy or a granola. If someone is wearing tons of glossy makeup they already aren’t a natural beauty to me. Absolutely agreeing witth you on this one. This is damaging to young women, and particularly young women/teens with small extended families or broken homes. When you don't see people that look like you, and especially as females because looks are so heavily prioritised with females, and the ones shown to be "beautiful" have no characteristics you have, it's easy to believe you're not attractive. Seeing the relatives you get your looks from can be helpful with this, I think. Granted those relatives will be older, but the feeling of belonging goes a long way. I regularly talk to my daughter about her grandmother because she looks just like her and never got to meet her. I know she's struggling with beauty standards, so I really want to remind her that beauty is more than what your skin, hair, face, etc. looks like. Her gran was a beautiful woman and I tell her regularly (and I'm pleased to say her dad also says that about his mom, which is really good feedback for a daughter to hear from her dad).

A guy once showed me a face of a girl that had TONS of makeup on, and he was praising her saying she looked Natural. Meanwhile the girl in the photo had tons of foundation, eyeshadow, contour, highlighter, a nose job, filler and he was fooled thinking it was natural, just because the tones of makeup were close neutral lol. Exactly, historically we always find some sort of exaggerated features more desirable, as they stimulate us more than just a pleasant symmetry. Like sure the symmetry is nice but then throw in some tweaks that exaggerate certain features and it's so much more interesting!! Like personally I am a sucker for big, beautiful, bumpy noses. The most beautiful feature apart from obvious ones like the eyes because they make dynamic. And even with eyes just think of the example of heterochromia and how many people go crazy over it because it breaks up the symmetry in an interesting way!

And I kinda dreamed of slimming down my jaw and nose tip & having veneers - only after watching your videos (and those of some other youtubers) I realised what a fu**ed up mindset that actually is and that I don't want to lose my uniqueness while simultaneously risking further issues with my health. The problem is that we are on our phones 24/7, so we see all these “natural beauty’s” online, and assume that this is how it should be. But what we do even less is to just look around when we are for example sitting in the subway. Not every second person has undergone surgery, and that’s completely fine. To just see how normal it is to be natural.🥰

I live in Hamburg and almost no one wears a full face of makeup in their day to day life, a whole lot of women don't wear any makeup at all. Thank you for making this kind of content. It’s really important to talk about and you get the right balance of not calling anyone ugly etc in their old appearances but still highlighting how they’re gone to alter their appearances and how we haven’t noticed and think we are so inferior to these ‘naturally’ beautiful celebrities. I also applaud you for speaking openly that you’ve had things done as you are also very beautiful but again we know that while most of that is you and your genetics there is that added element which requires enhancements to look like what society currently defines as naturally beautiful. More talking about this could make some people get these procedures but I hope it ultimately makes people realise that this is all a facade too and we are finally seeing behind the curtain! I hope society can start turning away from all this but I think it will only be increasing unfortunately. Like in South Korea it seems like so man young girls are already doing what previously only people in the public eye were doing.

Measuring faces mathematically to determine beauty is so stupid. It's impossible. What's beautiful is not only highly dependent on the observer but also the little 'imperfections' that truly make someone pretty or beautiful. Mathematically, Angelina Jolie would have lips that are too big and a face that is too square. Julia Roberts' mouth would be way too big. Marilyn Monroe's eyes would be way too droopy. And those are just three examples of women who were at one point considered among the most beautiful and would still be by many. It's, by the way, the same argumentation style as that of jealous people who like to highlight things that are not considered within the realm of 'perfect' as flaws

@@leinaleilani Yeah I had a correction to my septum because of a breathing problem I had since I was twelve. I had previously had a bump on my bridge and I never said to shave it, in fact I said to leave it, but it was shaved, in fact my bridge was what surgeons call "overscooped". I wondered if he had me confused with someone else! But then, he did fix my breathing issue so I guess not? Anyway, I went back for a revision to get him to raise the bridge of my nose (it didn't give me my exact old nose back, but it's a lot closer to what it used to be). There's a problem of a bundle of scar tissue on my nose tip that makes my eyes water/sinus sting for some reason if I rub it a certain way but I'm not going to the same surgeon three times because he seems to be a screw up. I think I will have to travel to get that repaired because the only other surgeon in my city that I called, the receptionist hung up on me every time I tried to introduce myself over the phone (I suspect it was because I spoke English) and so that left me with one option. He had good reviews and stuff and since I was only going in for a medical issue and not cosmetic I thought no big deal but unfortunately he decided I wasn't good looking enough and that he needed to play god on my face. So now I will have to pay for yet another revision. But on the bright side, my medical problem was solved so I do try to focus on that because it was really a big problem for me (I had basically massive sinus headaches, as if they were migraines, for about 10 years). So yes, you are right, it DOES happen. It seems like she is fibbing, but there's a chance she's telling the truth (but in her case I kinda doubt it).
@iprobablyforgotsomething
@iprobablyforgotsomething 2 месяца назад
@venus_envy -- That's... weird. He shouldn't have been in that area of your nose (the bridge) if he was just fixing the deviated septum. And then to not get it right a second time? That's straying into malpractice territory, one would think, since he did something you specifically told him not to. From both personal experience and anecdotal evidence, fixing septums and/or turbinates (often done together) doesn't change the outside shape of your nose (I was disappointed to learn, as I'd hoped my nose bump would get smaller).

Because naturally beautiful people already have a harmonic face, with certain things you focus on to bring it all together. But they end up changing the wrong things and ruin that, and makes the whole face to loose balanced contrast between features, and the slight "imperfections" won't lead your eyes to their standout features anymore, and they wont stand out as much. Does that make sense?

Their children can have the features they were dissatisfied with but children are no longer looking like their parents. If you have work done to your face is bad, if you put on too much makeup it's bad but if you don't put on any makeup you'll also get criticized and get comments like "you're not put together", "you could've make an effort and put on a little bit of makeup", "you look sick".... I even feel like you're unconsciously forced to be into skincare because you're bombarded with girls with perfect glass skin everywhere, with no pores, no blemish, no redness and if you have some "imperfections" you can get comments like "you should try this and this and this, you're skin will be perfect afterwards !"...

Discovering that those women that they wish they could be like are largely artificial may be the very impetus that flips the standards from artificial to true natural beauty. The media or “society” on average may think Kim Kardashain or Bella Hadid are the definition of beauty, but I know plenty of people who don’t like that manufactured look at all. Stephanie, thank you! I was watching Fool Me Once thinking that the actress (yes, Michelle Keegan) is wayyyy perfect and how does she do it. Then I started noticing the same lip movements that I've noticed on numerous other people that got lip fillers. And I looked her up. So yea, I was kinda fooled once, but it took only around 3 episodes. Gosh, why do these beauties tend to not be happy with themselves?

You forgot "Fake Eye Color", Tiny Harris, T.I. "Tip" Harris' wife had her Brown Eye Color surgically change to Ice Blue. Her Mom is is a Blue Eyed White Woman and I guess she felt she should have gotten the Blue Eyes along with the light complexion. I'm not sure but I believe she allowed one of her adult daughters to get the same procedure. Colored contacts have come a long way, taking the chance to lose your eyesight to change your eye is never worth it...

I came into this video expecting it to upset me, yet I left feeling honestly a little bit better about myself... relieved? Seen? Thank you for talking about this, because now I see that what I've been comparing myself to as a 26 year old is not real, and I ACTUALLY get it now.

question: what are the standards of "feeling beautiful" to women out there? Mine are: fresh after shower, hair semi wet, something cute on but comfy and just some hydratant or spf cream. And I'm chillin :)

I might be nit picking here and also could be wrong but I'm pretty sure Marilyn Monroe had work done too, she looked very different in her norma-jean days

The bosses at the film studios made her change her looks because they had the idea of what a natural woman should look like.

Thank you so much for your insightful video. It's so jarring to see how so many young girls have been comparing themselves to fakes and thinking it's a fair comparison.

There are plenty of natural beauties, they just aren't in the public eye, because the public expects fake.

People keep asking why celebrities won’t just admit what they did to their face. It’s because when you’re in high position of status and fame, you become narcissistic let’s be honest, and you want to feel superior to everyone, making others feel inferior. It’s all about ego.

Men thinking someone is a natural beauty is the same as guys thinking I am sick when I am not wearing makeup. I just wonder, do these people never go out in the street and see real people anymore?

Bring back big noses, crooked teeth, chubby cheeks, weak jaw lines, small lips…let’s bring back some differences please, let our children grow up to know it’s okay to be different and still feel beautiful

I think its best if people dodnt need to think they were beautiful to feel worth something. Plenty of people will say im not clever or i suck at maths and not see themselves as less than others so why do people HAVE to seer themselves as beautiful? Why dontthey just say im not the pretiest and be ok with it? What vanity it is to believe that you have to be beautiful. Its the same arrogance that is there with people who have to be smart/intelligent.
