This is simply the heaviest, most lowdown, nasty, slow moving GROOVE imaginable. It simply does not get much better. Where has all the GREAT R&B gone.... Thanks for posting this clip!
This is my jam right here the "Summer of 1983" this song sounded all over New York City and 98.7 KISS rocked it."The breakers were breaking and the poppers were popping" everywhere the tri state area. This is an ALLTIME CLASSICK TUNE. It's just so damn FUNKY!!!🎹🎶🎵🎼🥁🎺❤❤
The band is "United We Funk"... a combination of select members of The Dazz Band, The SOS Band, the Gap Band, the Bar-kays, and ConFunkShun. Although the entire set list was fun to play, "Just be good to me was one of my favorites !
I remember growing up in Harlem and one year during " Harlem Week " the SOS band was coming to perform and that was when " Take Your Time " was at the top of the charts so I was open , and then it started raining so I was thinking they were not gonna show but I was wrong , not only did they show up , the whole band came and they played " Just be good to me " Take your time and Weekend girl and I amazed my mouth was wide open and touching the ground and i forgot it was pouring rain , I got soaked but I enjoyed every minute the was on that stage under the State Office Building on 125th street .
Even in 2023, it is still one of the best jams to get your groove to. This jam makes you drive and drive around the block until it stops playing in the radio before you park your bucket in your driveway.
That beginning still gives me chills 30 years on. Can remember dragging some poor soul on the dance floor as soon as the synth, guitar and percussion started. Didn't matter who, just needed to dance! Mary sounds fantastic here.
Mary Davis, here it comes, from Stockholm with love! Enjoying your unparallelled voice and the great tunes from S.O.S Band since more than 30 years... Thank you guys!
Back when music had a great groove played by talented musicians playing real instruments. One of my fave jams that takes me back to Osan AB, Korea in 1983.
I can't help but lament being only 2 when this kind of funky music scene was happening. I have this strange feeling I would have been front and center at these concerts otherwise. Love me some Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis maaaan!
I remember Gary Davies playing it for the first time on RADIO 1 back in 1983👌,he loved it and so did I,the epitome of 80’s Disco/Funk,thank you Jimmy & Terry
Will forever rep this song! Soon as I REheard it a few years ago.. took m right back to my child hood. I was born in September of 1980 I think I was maybe TWO when this came out. Timeless music 🙏🏽
I NEVER left this era. Music back then was things you learn on instruments (bass guitar mostly) none of this sampling they do now. Female vocals was strong and you can understand what they are sing. Today, all they do is they holla and for what!
Hot damnn. play it funky.. love it my ole skool.. We used to dance ,every staurday night at St marks. Love my girls, now we old,but still jam. Gawd o mighty ,we had fun..still standing..
This my mother first cousin and my grandmother niece my mother passed om 03-2012 i miss her singing these song to me and telling the story on how her cousin got started and how they used to sing together in the room at my grandmother house they all look alike
I can't stand Tom Joyner on the stage with the bands he hosts.... he undermines the performance... makes feel like mockery. Let them do their thing bro!
I was just getting ready to write the same thing!! SINBAD with all of his Aruba and St. Thomas specials NEVER interfere with bands until he is called out! That damn Tom Joyner with his red coat is truly annoying!
Lol, these comments got me crying..lol..😄😂 Mr. Tom Joyner is the Man of the Hour! Let him njoy himself y'all..Lighten Up just a little bit..Good Vibes👏👏 💃🎸👏👏🎹💃🎼🎵🎤
With all due respect to Tom Joyner.....if you're not part of the band....get off the damn stage....if you wanna dance... that's what the wings are for...
No, they're not on the stage. I'm not hating, just being real but her appearance and energy is too simple for that song! And listening to it LIVE I believe when she did the song on audio during the 80's the digital technics made her and the song better and WAAAYYYY MORE INTENSE than it really sounds!!!
I agree Boogiestreet, This is pumpin funk, hard driving and well, what else can I say. You hit the nail right on the head. The thing that makes it even better is that the dynamics are of the chain.
