I remember being a beast with Raphael at a local tournament with the reversals and okizeme alone. I read everyone's moves they tend to use, and punished them for it. I wish I didn't waste time by fucking around with the stances though, exactly as you said. I remember them rarely being rewarding Good shit, Aris. Thank you for this Raphael tutorial. How I wish they bring back this version of Raphael instead of the Twilight vampire bullshit
@@Pan_Z it's moreso his movelist than the way he looks. His sc5 look is the same as his 2 look, which is good. Also with the myth of soul edge, a vampire is perfect for what it'd turn him into. Or rather, what you lore-weak people 'perceive' him as.
@@JagoShogun Bruh how does soul edge magically correlate to vampire? It didn't happen to Siegfried or Cervantes. Besides, being a vampire adds nothing to Raphael as a character, nor does it embellish on ANY of his leitmotifs.
I used to play like that too back then during sc2 arcade days. However, now that im playing sc2 on my 30s i can see that Raphael is actually a monster in THIS game (sc2). He just doesn't play in the same basic play as other "easier" characters. All Preparation stances 'A (the GI retreating move) are key to lures with adequate space between players. Tip range accuracy is a MUST to know & apply with all his move in other to get the juice out of him. Minimizing his move list is just a matter for building mixUps to further use more moves as the opponent do or dont adjusts. Spamming depends on how much it keeps working vs an specific opponent. 2K is great. 11A is actually the 2nd hit of A2A, which you can mixUp as "delay" by A2A-ing enough for opponent to G2 on that timing, so then you can do A~11A to throw off opponent's G2 timing & force them to hold G2 a bit longer, which "buys" more frames to poke like A~66B or A~BB. Again, these work better at tip range. Yes, "Keep Out" or "Keep At Bay" is efficient play style for Raph, & when on the offence you want to remain at tip range so to keep that space. Luring-in opponents to move forward is key to NOT having to deal vs their Stepping, & counter (by read) when their moving forward, is like a meta-way of narrowing their path.
When Soul Calibur 6 comes out They can change Raphael Sorel Back to a Normal Human and have a better 6th Throw We want Him Back to this Fighting Style Stance He has in Soul Calibur 2 where He Debut and Soul Calibur 3 where He Return Give That Fighting Style Stance to Alpha so He can be a Different Person His Own American Voice Actor and Japanese Voice Actor His Attitude Appearance Similar to Marth from Super Smash Brothers Series Twin Like Appearance.
Do you plan on doing the entire cast? I love these videos being a old school player and playing around in tourneys on the east coast, I also felt raph was garbage for a long time in this game but ended up loving the characters style of play as the game progressed, I definitely feel the need to get back into this game again. Was a big Sophie/Cassandra player. I actually found a old CD Mick gave me of him playing a guy who was thought to be as good as him first to 50
the preparations stances are not that bad. however, out the bad damage one the 214 retreat B guard impact makes most of the preparations stance useless. unless you want to use him like Maxi.
I never would have thought to soul charge to gain more frames on offense because things rarely work that way. That's something I'll be looking for more and more as I watch other character tutorials.
I KNOW THIS VID IS OLD AF, but i had to mention it... u think Raphael's attack goes too high, have u seen the one ivy cant do.... i honestly believe that ivy's was made for the sole purpose of killing inferno and whatever the stronger inferno is called in weapon master
BTW EASIEST WAY TO FIGURE OUT GOOD CHARACTERS just watch the computer use characters (if ur not on a really hard difficulty or some shit) and one of the characters has some sick combos that keep clapping you, take a mental note as to what the attack consisted of, change to that character, and mess around with him/her for a bit and 9 times out of 10 youll find a new
Hey, if you use only Forward B B B, the enemy cannot move and he can KO an enemy fast. Continue this til the enemy faces forward, press B+G, Unending Strings. It would be funny and nice if you do it in a ring-out range.
