Just to throw it out there, but this intro was customizable in the options menu. You could substitute anyone that appeared in the shots with any of the other characters.
This intro still gives me the chills, when you 'hear' NNNAAAMMMCCCOOO' & that animation starts, you know you're in for something special, a truly legendary game!❤

Who remembers being able to change the characters of the intro??? Hilarious making Nightmare do the part that Sophia normally does!! 😂😂😂 memories... Nostaligia... Sigh.
They were, quite literally. The power of the Dreamcast had surpassed the coin-operated hardware of arcade machines, and Soulcalibur, on the Dreamcast, demonstrated that very fact by surpassing its arcade counterpart.
i was a young teen and played the demo of this in my local gaming store before it was released, and yes, it freakin blew me away both the graphics and gameplay
I always loved the part at 1:14 where Sophitia gets up and the music changes to go along with it. So calm and tranquil along with her being one of my favorite characters in the game.
+Decadent Gamer I remember when I got my Dreamcast with Soul Calibur. I couldn't imagine graphics ever getting any better - you can't improve on perfection after all. In retrospect I may have been a bit too hasty. :D
StraightOuttaJarhois So true lol And contrary to popular belief, I find the old style of Soul Calibur (Soul Calibur 1, 2, & 3) better than 4 & 5. The problem I have with the aesthetic in the newer gen games is they go overboard with the highlighting and make everything so glossy. I also missed when they made the characters look like their ethnicity as to now where they look so anime-like.
Decadent Gamer Actually, I personally think the design is best in the original SC. The characters only get more cartoonish as the series goes on. They also go overboard with the gigantic breasts later in the series. Not that there's anything wrong with big norks, but moderation in all things and that.
StraightOuttaJarhois Well like I said, I prefer the art direction of the older games, Soul Calibur 3 being the last one. Seriously, did you see the promotional art for Soul Calibur 3? The characters looked awesome. :) But then when Soul Calibur 4 came out, that's when the art direction in character aesthetic changed to more cartoon/anime.
The Sega Dreamcast. Shenmue I and II Jet-Set-Radio, Soul Calibur, Nba2k1, Record of Lodoss War, Soul Calibur, Sonic Adventure... I think nostalgia is a big part of this feeling but those games were huge... Intros, OST... Honestly, I think this was the last period when creating videogames was a passion, with an incredible dedication. Nowadays, they are just a product. I will always love my Dreamcast and keep it as a treasure. I remember I was so sad when my first DC stopped powering on. I immediatly bought another. Im not a true gamer or smth like that, but when I am in a gaming-mood, I always want to get back to my DC. Thank you SEGA, for this wonderful experience.
The reason why you did not see the other characters in this intro (other than the selected ones) is because the intro to this game is customizable from the "Opening Direction" option in the "Museum" menu.
I would Love to see Cervantes Delieon in the Field to see Him Stand up and turn around to look at The Camera, than the leaf would cut to Himself in the Fire.
WELCOME BACK... TO THE STAGE OF HISTORY! When I unlocked the intro editor, I always set it up so that Edge Master opened the whole thing (since he can use all of the weapons dropped in the foreground) the first half were villain characters, since the music seemed to fit that a little better. I put Seung Mina in Sophitia's place in the windy plains, and then after Cervantes' moment in the flames... the heroes: Taki, Maxi, Kilik, and finally Xianghua (because she has Soulcalibur in this game so she faces off against Nightmare). I filled the black and white sections with characters I didn't give moments in the rest. Seemed to work better.

This game was the game to have at launch for the Dreamcast, it looked better than the arcade and the amount of stuff you can do besides plain arcade mode was awesome. Voldo for life.
Shit, I remember this game BLOWING MY FUCKING HEAD when I played it: these kind of graphics were just unreal for the time. And the customizable intro was such a fun thing to do, I spent HOURS finding the best possible intro. Damn I miss this game so much.

Someone needs to put this out on PS2 and 260 Have Their Voices Normal Pitched always even when Moving Forward to the Next Oppoentt Losing Playing Practing and Stuff to make it Stronger rather than High Pitched Voices Voldo Aeieon Calcos and Shienroneck needs to have a Japaness Voice Actor in this Game so They can Speak to have Quotes like The other Characters Inferno needs to be Removed from the Character Selection Screens He can only appear in the Openings Random does not need to be in any Character Selection Screens They get in the way!
MAN, this takes me back... Remember the selective Theater mode, where you can arrange which characters you wanted to appear in certain sections of this entire intro? Dude, I made sure of it that Hwang was the biggest star in this trailer, from start to finish. DAMN, they don't make games with that much creativity anymore.
I’ve always wondered Why they didn’t keep the dreamcast intro the exact same as the arcades intro... was kinda bummed on that but I red somewhere that Namco wanted to creat an into that literally showed off the power of the sega dreamcast a ability’s and how it can take arcade hardware graphics and make them better by 💯%
Soul Blade's intro is so much more epic than this. Also, Soul Calibur 2 was such a huge step up in terms of graphics and gameplay. So perfect that an HD Online version was released after SC 3, 4 and 5 were already out!
Soul Blade has the Same Intro. Because its the Same game. I guess you mean the into fmv Video with the sung title song. That comes before this. This is the in Game Intro. Or attract Intro.
Damn I remember renting this from Easy video and popping it into my Dreamcast for the first time. All the anticipation with my family members gathered around and watching this intro for the first time after growing up with soul blade. Ahhh what a time!!! 🥲

Watching this when I got the DC for Christmas in 99 blew my tiny mind. And the gameplay actually impressed my grandma who thought all games were Tetris. xD Though she thought it was too violent.
+Razar Raven Not quite how that works. You can actually replace every character in the intro. There is an option that is unlocked that allows you to customize the intro.
I really wish I got a chance to play the first Soul Calibur game but unfortunately since It's almost two decades old theres very little copies that are still out and my Dreamcast apparently has become obsolete due to old age. Oh well maybe I can just download the game on my Xbox 360 sometime even though the 360 has everyhing unlocked from beginning.
Not the best Intro, but is the Best Soul Calibur game for me Everything in this game is Beautiful, Characters appearance design, Soundtracks, Some Balance in fights, Stages, tip everything. Intro compared to other ones is not that good but Soundtrack is Epic :)

The way the eye on soul edge moves is always random before the evil seed rains down. You should have replayed the intro repeatedly until the eye looked up. And then uploaded it. It's more dramatic that way. 😅
